That table with the inlay in the mahogany wood, had a top that folds back. I love to shop for vintage jewelry. Haven't been to any sales since the beginning of the pandemic. This was a very amazing video. Thank you!!.
Agreed. I was really bowled over by them. I loved the one with the Jonquils along the bottom, but there's no denying the staggeringly gorgeous ones with scenes.
The Slave Auction sign should be in a museum so posterity can see it. Artifacts like that are really important and as much of its provenance should be included with the sign. Maybe a museum can purchase it. We have to preserve these in the same way we preserve artifacts from the Holocaust so no one can deny that these things happened and hopefully, we don't repeat these atrocities again. The family who had it shouldn't be ashamed - they aren't responsible for what their ancestors did. However, telling us about its history is part of our growth and development as a culture. We can't heal if we don't face our problems and past. Maybe museums have enough of these signs, but I feel like they should be the guardians of materials like that.
I had something similar from a liberal aunt who collected black memorabilia starting in the 60s even though we are a mostly white family. I was uncomfortable with it, but I didn’t want to destroy it myself so I donated it to a black history museum and told them they could do anything they wanted with it including destroy it. I don’t know what happened to this piece.
Oh George...thanks sooooo much...I am at 15.08 and just had to stop it and say what a thrill...what a help when so darn home bound...and so very amazing and interesting...thank you...those lamps...the primitives..those French I have to replay to catch the word with all hanging pieces,,,,so amazing and wonderful. That inlaid table...All the fantastic varied jewelry and glass and ironstone dishes. This show and area..wow..really something for what shows up. I loved your after show Dixie Bar and Grill...I just have to get my dad a computer and teach him how to watch your show...another who loves what we affectionately call "stoof" for stuff. Thank you so very much!!!
Thanks for the education and all the fabulous antiques! I live in Ft. Lauderdale and couldn't make it to the show because I have a broken toe! Darn it. Someday I will meet you. Meanwhile, I will languish on your channel. And thanks for the restaurant tip. I will check it out!
Lighting is great on the Puffy Lamps.🤗🤗 my old roommate gave me her 2 butterfly chairs. They were used as chairs in her living room when she first got married in the 50s. I don't have the leather tho.
I look forward to dining at Dixie's one day, so I can see some of the goodies you sold them. Also, I totally dig fashion jewelry & always stop to look when I see it.
George, I love your videos! I am constantly amazed by your knowledge and I am so happy that you are so willing to share it! It's fun, too, when you show us some of the sights where you happen to be!
The cigar cutter was interesting, the only ones I’ve seen have a circle to centre the cigar Ah I see in the comments that a subscriber offers an alternative use
George I have been collecting rhinestone dress clips for 20 yrs. love the Duettes; I have about 1000 pieces that were about 25 to 50 cents Each; now quite a bit more! Love to go antiquing with you! Love ya
OMGoodness, I'm in loovvve w/ the Pairpoint puffies lamps & the painted ones, especially! Oh, if only i was wealthy i'd put Joclyn the crazy lamp lady to shame w/ all those beauties! And to think i liked Tiffany lamps. Thanks again, George for another interesting walk back in time when the careful little details put into antiques still shows up today! It amazes me that every single time i watch your videos i see something(s) i've never see before. Thank you, i appreciate you showing & also explaining!
I'm so glad to be able to do this! I realize I can't show you all I want to if I only pay attention to my own stuff, so I'm really happy to get to show other dealers' quality merchandise
There used to be a place in Greeley Colorado called The Armory that was like that restaurant only they had all old WW1 and WW2 memorabilia, they even had a WW2 fighter plane fuselage with its original bullet holes it had suffered during one of its flights but managed to make it back to base before being decommissioned complete with its wartime pin up girl painted on the front, sad state of affairs though, she took a bullet or 2 in the behind..lol.. it's been closed since the late 80's, but it was such a cool place.
The pinup on that propeller looked like Betty Grabel. Right out of WW2. ( probably spelled it wrong). That’s the most stuff I’ve ever see crammed into a bar. Really cool!
that painting of the lady on the propeller is betty grable, a big pinup star from the forties -- they used to paint ladies on their airplanes when they went to war -- she was photographed in a bathing suit from the rear because she was a little bit pregnant -- she was married to harry james of big band fame --
Love the Wisteria glass set, beautiful color! Great restaurant,, hope to visit one day.. Enjoying watching your videos during our Chicago area snowstorm, wish I was in Florida🥶 Thanks George!!
I’m holding an estate sale Feb 12-13 in Boynton Beach near the mall and then selling at Mt. Dora Renningers Antique show the following weekend in space 4079-4090
Amazing video. I love walking through an antique show with you - fabulous items and thank you for sharing all your knowledge! Makes it so fun to learn about these things I don’t know about. Keep up the good work, George! Love your channel. 🙂👍🏻❤️
Hi George! That bird doorstop would be a nice one to use. It might not be an original, but still had a nice look. There is a Scripto lighter here somewhere that was my dad's. It has a fishing lure in it. Those opera glasses were fantastic. Those Pairpoint lamps would make me go broke. I've always liked those reverse-painted shades. That Royal Vienna vase was fabulous! The figures on it are harpies. If they had arms, they would be angels. The bangle that caught my eye was the one with what looked like a peridot in it. I liked that Bastet figure next to the Hawaiian lamps. Cameos have always been a favourite of mine. They are classy and classic. That Royal Bayreuth was some really nice pieces. That bar was fantastic! It would be fun to just sightsee in there. Thanks for the tour!!!!!
I like the fishing lure one, that's a classic! I could easily buy a Pairpoint if I had the money, arts-and-crafts is one of my favorite design eras. Harpies! I appreciate that, I think I first said caryatids but they really weren't supporting the vase in that manner. I liked the lion head bangle, being a Leo and all...the Bastet figure would have merited mention if I'd not gone visually to my beloved Hawaiiana. Thank you so much for coming along and telling me what appeals, I value your opinion because I know you're a serious collector!
Who made the blue royal lace depression glass? I've never seen it before, but that could be 'cos a juice tumbler is $25, lol. So many pretty things. The prices on the jewelry seemed very good, and the lamps are to die for. Thanks for showing us.
Thank you George for sharing!!! So neat to see all the treasures and learning more and more every video! What do you like to order at Dixie Bar and Grill?
@@TheAntiqueNomad it is totally neat to see all of the "decor"! I have saved the Dixie Bar on my maps, so if/when I'm scooting around Florida I'll have a known place to have some good eats!!! Also I'll note to try the Mahi!!! Thx!
Hi George, great video and lesson’s as always. Way too many things too comment on, I won’t even start with the jewelry. 😂 The Pairpoint dragon fly, and butterfly lamps are amazing. I noticed in the very cool restaurant an Wildroot sign, that’s the hair lotion my dad used, and I can still smell it if I want too. I have been looking for the bottle with the label for years now. It’s a very tall glass bottle, let me know if you ever come across one. Thank you for all you bring to us. 😘
The brass cutter is for cutting " Bettlenut " , used to chew along with Pan leafalong with lime stone powder, and many other things as mouth fresheners. With Love from SAM Guwahati Assam INDIA 🙏❤
Hi George from Seattle! You mentioned "dress clips"...I have always thought they were "shoe clips". I have been collecting them for many years. Am I incorrect?
Absolutely Fabulous Market! I play a lot of Scrabble and discover that some commonly used words with multiple meanings are eliminated by some Scrabble/corporate Un-think Tank of 20 year olds and SLAVE is one of them. Whew Janet, calm down! 🤫
I'm a jewelry junkie. The heraldic pieces from the 50s and 60s were never representative of any real country or coat of arms unless they were souvenir pieces. The latter were marked. The rest were rarely signed. If you get lucky, you may find some of the pieces made out of disused coinage. (1947 Philippino pennies for instance) Comedy/tragedy pieces were dirt common, in multiple metals and other materials. The micromosaic in goldtone pins were a hot thing at about the turn of the last century. That stuff was fun. The sign for the auction was not, for obvious reasons.
Everything you said comports with what other jewelry dealers have told me! I should've been specific and said that the war-era medals and crests "inspired" the later pieces. I do see lots of coin jewelry. It is a fun show for jewelry! The auction sign was not, but I think it's important to show the reality of it
I think the image of a crown and Bible represents the Crown of Glory, a symbol sometimes found on Protestant imagery. That would be consistent with the Amerrican drum it's painted on.
My problem with slave trade memorabilia is it os OFTEN used for more…..you guessed it, white supremacy groups. It’s not about the fact of its history and how a generational lived. It’s about those same people, with the same views regarding a persons color, still instill racism, sexism etc..

That Dixie Grill and Bar is so cool!

Excellent video/you tube. Enjoyed it all, especially learning how to double my money by folding it.

Really enjoyable, George, and I feel like I learned a lot. Seems you were speaking more softly in this one which was very pleasant.

I did! I filmed right until dinner arrived and that was the end of it
Thanks George for such stunning 😍show! Bar & Grill, is absolutely amazing! 💯
Isn’t it fun?
The auction sign is part of history. If we don't know about it, with all it's warts, we are doomed to repeat it! I couldn't own it, but...
Thank you for understanding! I felt it was important to include it for just that reason
Agreed. Well-stated.
