I remember watching it live on OLN. Bob Roll got an interview with him at the finishing line.

@@UnivegaSuperSport Wow, I bet it was a fun one to watch. It was a bit before my time.... Not sure where you are from, but he is still a legend here in Australia

@@finr8452 Yeah, "Macker" was in tears crying on Bob's shoulder. Bob was still relatively well known among the riders and always gave the best interviews.
I was just getting into racing myself and would record the stages on vhs tape live while on a training ride, go to classes and then watch the recording when I got home.
I'd have to avoid the internet and cycling discussion forums so that day's ending didn't get spoiled. I did this for all OLN and Versus coverage from '99-2008.

@@UnivegaSuperSport Sounds like a different time. I wasn't even born yet! I hope that you are still riding and keeping up with the highs and lows of the modern peloton. You sound like a great bloke
Just to be clear though, "Macker" is spelt "Macca" haha!

@@finr8452 lol, that's hilarious how I Americanized his name. Only heard Phil or Paul call him that in the video so I'll blame them.
