OMG Yes!!! I love the presentation. I'm being hyped up, I'm just being taught and it's working. I'm already upping my game. My only complaint is that there are not more lessons yet. Thanks for all your help Mr. Rich! Guadalajara, Mexico
Hello all the way from south Africa Since I started following this channel when I play the bass I get much positive comments they "like man you improved" thank you so much Rich
Picked the bass up 7 months ago and I’m struggling, but came across your videos a week ago and it’s helping me understand. I’ve watch 3 videos and have learned a lot. Even tho your “slow playing” is fast for me lol, somehow I’m able to keep up. You have an excellent way of getting the point across, so beginners like myself can learn and apply. Keep sharing it’s definitely appreciate.
Thank you so much, Carlanto. Your comment means a lot. I'm doing the best I can to address everyone at every skill level. I'm so happy to know that these videos help you even in some small way. That's important to me. Thank you very much for watching!
Simple is a good word. Too many confuse simple with easy, and they are NOT. Playing simple is difficult because there is NOTHING to hide behind. Nice quotation of The Chicken. ;) This was a great lesson. Respect.
Thank you so much for pouring into this channel. You’re not just gifted in musical talent but have a genuine heart to share so others can grow. This lesson really connect the dots and helped me break out of root note thumping and develop my first sense of pentatonic groove. God bless!
This is a very Rewarding experience for me so I am certainly glad to get to see your classes and they're so simple !! Great patience Wonderful Teacher and I hope that you will be able to break down the music theory for bass guitar sir one day soon
I'm from Israel. I just found this channel. I've been playing bass for almost 30 years and I never had a clear explanation to how pentatonic scales and modes work until now. Gd bless you.
Hi Rich, here is Cristian, italian, living in Bali Indonesia. I love your lessons, so inspiring and encouraging, plus you're a good kind man, I can tell
Wow... you opened up my mind, finally I understood the pentatonics, and how can they be used, you are a great master, you make it very easily and understandable your lessons, wowwwww...what a great help you gave me...Rich Brown the best ever...great musician and great master...thanks a lot for your lessons
Great lesson! Hi from Syracuse. Talking about soloing and keeping the groove immediately makes me think of Willie Weeks’ solo on “Everything is Everything” from Donny Hathaway Live. A perfect example of this exercise. Thanks, Rich!
Thanks, Jay! Much appreciated, brother. Fun fact: I had the chance to hang out with Michael McDonald one night. We had a great time, and at the end of the night, he told me I totally reminded him of Willie Weeks. Even asked if we were somehow related. Ha! (We're not, btw.)
@@richbrownbass Whoa! That’s a huge compliment and from a legend nonetheless! I’m sure Willie would be flattered by the comparison too. Thanks for the great lesson.
What a great player and educator you are!!! Kind, generous… your lessons have a great flow to them. You explanations are clear and concise. You are everything I am working on achieving!!
Because you asked I'm originally from Lancaster CA. Also I have to concur bass solos don't get any love. Geezer Butler is a master of utilizing a lot of what you're teaching in this video 📸
Greetings from Twin Falls, Idaho! Just discovered your channel. I've been playing for 30 + years, and you have already demystified many things that I've fought with for a long time. Many thanks!
Wow! finally someone who teaches the bass like it is supposed to be taught. Your method of teaching is very easy to comprehend and understand. I love the bass, i fell in love with the instrument and want to soak up as much as i can and truly learn the bass both inside and out. wow if you were my bass teacher in real life that would just be awesome. I would be good before ya know it. keep it up, you are doing a phenomenal job
Thank you my friend! You present things with a clarity that is so helpful. I really like the idea of planning the conclusion of a solo, ....remembering the exit door. You gave this 70 year old some stuff to work with! Again, thanks.
I like the way you present a basic exercise, and then, build on it in several more videos. This gives me the information to allow me to actually USE it in my playing. Thank you...
beginning Bassist, long time front man and harmonica player; your teaching style and explanations have helped me immensely. I am able to keep up with the very talented guitarists from my band in a jam situation, andf I am learning a great deal from you! Thx so much!
I am watching a lecture in South Korea and I think it is a very useful lecture. So thank you very much. More lectures please. I want your channel to develop greatly
I think the way you explain that is good. My English is not that good but I still understand everything. You speak moderately and clearly and keep your explanation simple. That's probably why we foreigners watch your videos.
Your videos are so fun and informative. You maintain a duality of calmness and yet excitement. No matter the complexity, you got a joy for the playin of music
Hello from St. Paul, MN. I’m returning to bass after essentially a 30 year break, and your videos are extremely helpful in getting me back on track and thinking about bass in a new way.
Wow! Being an avid student of music theory,I just now realized why what you're saying is true. It is because the G minor scale is the relative minor of the B flat major scale, which means that the pentatonics for both scales contain the exact same notes, just in a different order. The light bulb went off; just wondered why I hadn't figured this out myself before. This fact would have been worth mentioning in the video. Thanks for the great videos. By the way, your voice is magic
Portland, OR - fantastic lesson. The 3 pentatonic positions may be the single most useful thing I've learned in such a short time - especially since it can be applied to major and minor.
OK. This is what I like about you: you explain it so clearly and humbly! You’re laid back and so easygoing, which allows the information to come out so I, as a 66 year old guy living in Phoenix, AZ who first picked up the bass in 1972 can use it! I haven’t really mastered the bass and I’m a bit frustrated. But you make it fun! I am so happy I stumbled across you!
I'm glad you're here too, Scott. I truly appreciate your very kind words. If these videos help you out even in the smallest way, I know I've done my job. That's what it's all about. I'm here to help. Thanks so much!!!
As a self-taught bassist from a small island country Taiwan, I learned a lot from you! After learning all these pentatonic skills, I slowly started to create grooves instead of covering songs, which is really fun and fulfilling. Thanks for all the hard work!
This is a great lesson. So well executed. I teach bass for a living and this was insightful, beautifully simplistic, and funky AF. Well done. Thanks! (Glenside,PA...outside of Philadelphia)
Thank you so much! Really great teacher to me! I am so impressed by the fact that even when you stop playing and talk the groove goes on in your mind and you rejoin playing exactly there where the groove has gone in the meanwhile.
While you may not read this note. I still want to let you know how amazing this channel is. You are truly saving so many bassists from a lifetime of mediocre bass playing. One thing I struggle with is learning by ear. If you’re moved to do a lesson on that, it would be so appreciated.
