He has trouble killing the bear while its alive. Then throws it into space? LOL
HAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHHAHAHAHH ....yeah...he was angry, you see.... :-|
The Vader scene is legend. The hulk scene too but the peak is when Bruce and Natasha lock eyes. Truly scary.
Marcus gonna be doing this series till he's 90! I'll be here for all of it. Nice video!
Hshaha! I don't think I will....but hmmm...maybe!
That Darth Vader hall way scene is the best thing to come out of Disney Star wars
Vader in the corridor is top shelf content
Hugely!
Meh. I loved Darth Vader in the first trilogy. But over time they've made the force-wielder more and more OP. Now they're all gods, casually tossing people about. Once upon a time, there was a sense of power involved, and effort. The fight between Vader and Luke in Empire Strikes Back is a great example. Vader hurls things at Luke but it you can see and hear and feel the gathering of power in doing so. Yoda pulls the X-wing out of the swamp but there's nothing casual about it, and afterward, is that all just disappointment you see? He's tired. And so when one of them infrequently did something casually, it meant something. Now they toss people and objects around with a flick of the fingers. And that's mid-shelf content at best. It's just more CGI and VFX.
@@ronaldbell7429 mid shelf....but still not tesco value so we're all good
"Let's start with a good fight" *starts with the BEST fight*
The Lou Ferrigno Hercules is elevated by a hefty helping of the amazingly enjoyable spice that is skipped all too often these days: camp.
HAHAHAHHAHAH! Can't beat camp!
@@MarcusFlemmings Camp is also an oft-overlooked component of classic HK action flicks!
Mate you could have all the best directors in the world give Ewe Boll advice and his massive coked out ego would just want to fight...he's the worst 😂
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHAHA!!!!!! What a legend!
First and only film of his I saw was the house of the living dead adaptation.
That's 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
@@MadHax-wt5tl @SpaceIce has some pretty outstanding 'reviews' of Uwe Boll's films if you want a crash course in how bad the movies are by laughing at them instead of slogging through
@@cammychoate Oh Hell yeah, I'm subscribed to space ice, just as I am subscribed to this channel.
And I too highly recommend those videos to anyone reading this reply.
That animated blue eye samurai was such a surprisingly well done series.
Best of swords and sandals scenes? 😂
Awesome video as always m8!
I personally disagree with the idea that The Last Samurai is a white savior movie. Nathan Algren doesn't actually save anyone in it. Furthermore, he doesn't possess greater knowledge or strength than Katsumoto, and he doesn't 'enlighten' the 'backwards savages' like some white savior movies try to portray. He is only spared in the first place because Katsumoto wants to know his enemy to gain an advantage. In the end, it is Algren who is changed, who comes to appreciate and adore Japanese culture and traditions, not the other way around.
I like this! However -- Tom Cruise = leading man. When he is the supporting character.
@@MarcusFlemmings that’s true, I think it would’ve been interesting to see the movie from Katsumoto’s perspective instead. Dunno if the idea of Tom playing a supporting role was too much for Warner Bros., or what it was.
However, from the perspective of the audience, and for the plot, it kinda makes more sense for it to be from the perspective of Algren. The movie is made with the assumption of a predominantly Western audience, and because of this, we (unfortunately) might empathize with Algren a lot more than we might with Katsumoto if the film started off from his perspective. For one, we understand where Algren comes from, and what he has struggled with because of our understanding of American history - like his flashbacks to the massacres on Indian villages he took part in. With Katsumoto, we don’t immediately know what he’s fighting for. His motives, if the movie followed him instead, would’ve had to be thrust in our faces much more directly in order to explain them to an audience that, for the most part, knows very little about Japanese history. Because the film was made in the way it was, we come to understand the Samurai way along with Algren, making it easier to digest, and flows much better.
His being on the opposing side in the beginning of the film also shows the audience how powerful the Samurai are, and sets up the battle at the end of the movie as you see the Japanese army go from untrained and undisciplined infantry to an existential threat to Katsumoto and the mythos of the Samurai as the army gets American cannons and gatling guns. You’re introduced to Katsumoto’s forces as the antagonists in a “fly swatting” battle, and they end up as the good guy underdogs by the end, which makes for a much more dynamic plot.
While Tom Cruise is the “main role,” the focus shifts a bit from him to Katsumoto in the middle of the film as we come to sympathize with his position and root for him to succeed. At the end of the film, it is Katsumoto’s actions that change the Emperor’s mind, not Algren’s (even though he is the one who presents the sword to him.)
I think an argument can really be made for either side here. This would be an interesting video on its own tbh. Let me know what you think about my perspectives, I love this type of stuff! Love your channel and look forward to the next vid!
Algren's character is the one who needed saving, and only through the eyes of the widow, fatherless son, and the whole community does he see that the Japanese weren't 'savages'. It's a great movie, but I doubt that general audiences would have shown up without a big name in the movie
@@MarcusFlemmingsthe movie can be about Tom cruise’s character while he’s still not the Samurai savior/hero.
Also, many have erroneously assumed samurai domination in sword making and sword in fighting. That is an incorrect and an ignorant position. Us Officers would have also had a lot of martial arts training and practice.
I mean, Alrgen does not even became samurai at any point, film called "The Last Samurai" because Algren sees how the last samurai dies, not because he becomes one.
I get so excited when you do a new upload, that I immediately scan through the entire video just to see what films I can look forward to you covering!
I don’t do that for any other TH-camr and I watch a lot haha. Keep up the great work! 🎉
Massive love Evanz - love the scanning! Pahaha!
Brilliant video once again! If we're talking worst swords and sandals movies as far as wasted potential goes, the gold medal certainly goes to Alexander. Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, Rosario Dawson, Val Kilmer, and I can't remember a single line from the movie.
The movie Hellboy 2 The Golden Army might be a shrug factory when it comes to excitement but I do have to give high praises to Luke Goss and his portrayal of the Prince. Some absolutely awesome choreography and stunt work from him in the final fight
So sad, because I love Alexander the Great....they need to make a GOOD film about him!
Expected to see The Swordsman (2020) in this video with sword fights. Very nice videos man! Can't wait for the next.
Absolutely love that fight from Troy i watch just that fight sometimes
This video series makes me day every day it’s uploaded
You legend!
3:45 I can’t believe people are still applying the incorrect trope to The Last Samurai. It didn’t suffer from the white savior trope, it suffers from the noble savage trope. Cruises character does nothing to change the pitch of events or offer any kind of plot determining action. He is a spectator who is our window into the narrative. Thats it. Now the problem is the noble savage issue. Mainly acting as if the Japanese hadn’t been using guns for a very long time by this point in history.
I want to make this clear, as I've replied to a few comments like this on the video - question: who is on the poster? And who should have been the main character?
@@MarcusFlemmingsWhat you’re eluding to is white washing. Not white savior. Cruise is on the poster, and he is our POV to the story, but the story is not about him, nor does it hinge on his actions. He’s not Laurence of Arabia or Avatar. He’s an observer. Our main character is Katsumoto. By all accounts the hero of the story. Obviously not quite that cut and dry in real life, but this is a movie.
Edit: also, love all you have done and this series of work you have explored. Your videos are fantastic my dude. Love the chat we are having so please don’t read into anything negative. I don’t mean to come off that way, but you know tone is hard to get right in text.
It disappoints me to see people spew statements based on race for no reason. He had no reason to say that, it added nothing to the video. Still a fan but that was pointless and stupid
Appreciate the titles at the bottom for the ones with clips!
I thank you for covering the scene from 2019's the king.
Nice as ever.
Request:
The fight from Deadwood, Dan Dority and Captain Turner.
One of the most intense fights I've seen on screen.
What a show!
"In the name of the king" mentioned! 😂 First time I saw it I couldn't believe Jason Statham was in it, after that for me he became the bald guy from in the name of the king
PAAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA! Love this!
GREAT fight for you to review - opening fight of “Haywire”. Brutal and perfect. And done by Soderberg, generally thought of as an arthouse director
Also, last fight in The Hunt - breaks some rules but adds up to a terrific brawl, well written on many levels
Thanks for all the great posts!
Thanks for the Troy reference, I remember in the comments agreeing with someone that the film was a good suggestion.
But here's a random one for you. The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad.
That film features a sword fight at the end with a stop motion skeleton, which is a brilliant technical achievement alone.
Ray Harryhausen did many fight scenes with actors versus stop motion monsters, but this one in particular is exceptional.
Love this recommendation actually!
@@MarcusFlemmings Actually just thinking, you can tell by the steam jetting out of my ears.
There could be another subject to explore here.
Good and bad fights with "artificial" opponents.
I remember there was a fight at the end of the first Mummy movie, with a bunch of cgi monsters, which just didn't work. There was a lack of eye contact and any feeling that the monsters were really there.
Good shit M-Flem, keep em coming!
The most realistic and greatest fight scene (on its own) is Sara Connor’s escape from hospital in T2. Her use of surprise, no hesitation and weapons….along with luck and help, made it one of the best ever, especially of a female “warrior.”
Finally you show the Achilles/Hector fight which is just great on it's own.
Did you know that the real between the two wasn't so dramatic, all they did was throw javelins at each other, the first ones thrown by each missed but Achilles had another one and skewered Hector with it before he could get out of the way.
Amazing episode Marcus! Maybe in the future you can do a special episode about good and bad fights in TV shows? Daredevil sure does have some amazing scenes, i'd love for you to cover them
Another excellent video 👍 Shogun is a masterpiece.
it series...no to season 2 though!
@@MarcusFlemmings I'm saddened they've booked a season 2. It's gonna feel like a totally different show unless they nail the theming, especially without you-know-who.
When you spoke about TV-budget, that made me think of another TV-show featuring plenty of great fight scenes: Sharpe. There may be lots of rifles but there are also some hand-to-hand and sword fights.
That takes me back, my Dad loved that programme!
When I saw that Darth Vader scene in theaters for the first time, I grabbed my friends arm when his light saber came on and then he grabbed mine and we both lost our minds. The best experience I've ever had in a theater. It was so loud. Everyone was in awe. For the first time, Darth Vader was unleashed.
Love it! Thank you!
The Vader corridor scene is the best Vader scene ever, but it owes everything to 39 years of Vader and builds on it.
Still cooking Marcus! Great as always! ❤
Big love!!
Rashomon!!! So nice to see it. I just saw the last week Sanjuro, for the first time and God damn!!! That final fight between Mifune and Nakadai it's just amazing. Mifune is one of the best actors i've ever seen.
I never really saw The Last Samurai as a white saviour story. I guess it could definitely be seen that way. But I always saw it as a broken western man who just wants to drink himself to death being saved by Katsumoto and his people. The samurai were the saviours, and Algren the saved. My only complaint would be that it maybe should have spent a little more time on the other characters than just Tom Cruise screaming for Sake. Hiroyuki Sanada's character needed a lot more screentime, and we could have seen more of Katsumoto with his people.
On a side note, Hella good videos man. Keep up the good work!
Just watched the first Thor movie (again) and the fight between Loki and Thor is both a good and bad scene at the same time.
The good:
The stakes are high, the impacts have oomph, and there is good emotion.
The bad:
Shaky cam, shots are too tight to see anything, and lots of edits to cover up actors that can’t fight.
I’d love your take on it.
I have very fond memories of the final fight between Robin and the Sheriff in "Robin and Marian" (1976, Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn with Robert Shaw as the sheriff) - I recall it being quite realistic; two guys in heavy armour slogging it out in a muddy field and quickly getting exhausted, such that an effective attack becomes just bumping into your opponent to knock them over.
Gonna need to watch this tomorrow
please do and leave a little comment!
The Deluge and the Duelists has probably the best sword fights in movies. Classic swashbucklers like the Mark of Zorro and The Adventures ofRobin Hood are quite good. The duel between Obi-Wan and Maul i. Rebels is my favorite lightsaber fight of all time. The Adorea channel has some great short film sword fights as well.
You might as well make the next video all about blue eye samurai because all the fight scenes are insane
2:36 Happy to know someone has good taste in tv shows
I keep hearing about Shogun, I assumed it would be too basic but it seems like what Black Sails did for pirate media. I’ll definitely give it a watch!
Watch it! Best TV show in years!
What a show!
12:00 yes sir, you are correct. And that was the exact moment Disney tricked me into thinking they knew what they were doing.
every dang week baby
One of My Most Favourite TV Show fight scenes Is the Azula and Zuko Agni kai in S3 of avatar genuinely One of the most beautiful fight scenes I have ever watched and with one of the best stories to go along with it.
Oh, if we are getting into medieval fights, I think there is another bad movie fight trope to mention. When dealing with medieval or antiquity armies fighting each other, any battle that immediately breaks the battle lines as soon as the armies meet, is a bad fight.
You know what I mean. Is what we see in most of this kind of movies. When the battlefield devolves into people from both armies randomly dueling each other all across the place, you immediately start making yourself questions like "how can they tell who's an enemy and who a friend?", or "how can they tell who is winning?". "The King" is certainly one of the worst examples of that, because basically everyone is wearing the same kind of armour, with no distinctive features.
"The Last Kingdom" Netlflix series and its final film, "Seven Kings Must Die", does this much better. It shows the importance of shield walls, shows warriors coordinating to protect each other's flanks, and if in the end it devolves in the random chaos of most movies, it's because the line of the losing side has been broken, and now they are fighting out of desperation to escape and survive. Showing the desperation and fear of a rout as it should.
Amazing comment!!
I think the last truly great GoT moment was Dernerys sailing to Westeros, and the best Darth Vader scene is "I'm your Father". But this are pretty damn good as well.
FIRST! Love your vids bro keep up the fantastic work
Darth Vader making his appearance and tearing through all those soldiers is the stuff of legend.
Whoa whoa whoa what's that fight with the two women at the very end there? That looked worth watching
It's a scene from "The night comes for us". Same team as "The Raid" movies. It's a great action film, but be aware that it is so graphically violent it borders on being a horror movie too.
First, the Last Samurai does not fall into the White Savior trope as it 1. Does not have the white character help the rebel Samurai in anyway that leads to victory 2. The white character does not teach the Samurai anything of note. He very much instead learns for them, to regain a sense of honour and the will to live again.
Most people misunderstand the purpose of these characters, which is to have a stand in for the audience to explore a foreign land and culture through familiar eyes by having a fish out if watwr protagonist who comes to accept and even love a people not his own, and how the meeting of these different cultures leads to greater prosperity for all. But, sadly, many simply put on the ‘White Savior’ label and refuse to see any further depth on the matter.
Well said
It added nothing to the video and was just a woke trope. Annoying
Dont know if you saw my suggestions, or the films themselves, but the prison scene in Bunraku is one of the best (amongst the other fight scenes in the film too!) as well as Warrior's Way has some FANTASTIC scenes. 2010 was a VERY underrated year for movies.
Every time I see a scene with Muad'Dib, I watch it right away
Not gonna lie, now i want to see you doing one of these for actual street fights kkkkkk
You should look into animated fight scenes those are spectacular
Animated fight scenes are spectacular because the actions have no limits, no restraints. They can do anything, limited only by what the animator can draw. And in that ability to shrug aside normal human limitations, they lose their humanity. Worse than that, animated action scenes in some sense mock real human action scenes - at least when people forget and start making comparisons. The best examples of that are when movies mix human and animated characters. Look at the first Space Jam. Michael Jordan plays b-ball against cartoons, and as a result a legendary basketball player looks dull and lead-footed because nobody else around him has to obey physical laws. It's like some of these videos you find from time to time comparing the size of fictional monsters or fictional spaceships. The ones at the end who "win"... why did they win? Because their designers were the guys who gave a shit about reality the least?
I don' tknow if you have done it, but The Last Duel has an absolutely great fight scene in it, one the best that year!
Never thought I’d ever see “In the Name of the King” here. I love Jason Statham movies. Most of the time the movies are pretty bad, but the fights are always fun.
These are all great examples all with their own strengths. This may be outside your comfort zone but I'm thinking about it because i've just listened to the Audio novelization. The Ripley Powerloader vs Alien Queen fight.
Something else that I've thought might be worth a dabble are training montages.
Vader hallway scene will go down as absolute top tier banger of great fight scenes
Commenting for the algorithm. By the way, if you ever do an other volume of bad vs good video game fights, PLEASE cover the Raiden vs Senator Armstrong fight(s) in Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. It’s the video game of all time.
I need to check it out and big love for the comment!
I'd love to see you cover The Duallists. It's an early Ridley Scott film from 1977. It has some of the best fencing scenes, which were choreographed by someone that actually knew fencing...
There's some fun fight scenes with Val Kilmer in Willow that dont get a lot of love that you could talk about
Space Ice has convinced me Uwe Bol Isa mad man 😂
The Vadar scene is almost the same as Luke Skywalker's appearance rescuing Grogu in the Mandalorian / Book of Book of Boba Fett , as he walks through corridors mowing down rows of superdroid storm troopers...
Something in this video made me think of the climactic fight from the end of The Postman 1997. It's kind of an odd thing because it's two men who don't really know how to fight just trying to get through it alive. It's really weird to see a final fight where the characters aren't very good at fighting. The movie has a lot of detractors but I really like it, final fight included
Great job on the video, brother. Perhaps we can get a fighting review on the show "Warrior" (the factory fight in the last episode of season one)
Oh, I'm early, HIIIII EVERYONE!!!!
hi!
Hullo guv’nor!
Sup.
Yo nice shout out to BCS! Also check out the fight between Johnny Cage and Baraka in that youtube short MK Legacy. Nice flashback fight to describe someone's death.
Yes!!! Shogun! Amazing show. Everything is stellar, but for me the costumes (S tier) and the fact they kept it in Japanese the whole time to enforce the fact that the Anjin doesn't understand them. Also, that battle scene in The King where it devolves into a bunch of armored guys just elbowing and head butting each other in a muddy field. Cinema has portrayed these big knight battles as something expansive with wide sword swings, when I think a lot of it was more like that scene...doing what you could to survive. (as you pointed out)
Need the Luke scene from the Mandalorian now that the Vader one has been touched on. Also would love to see you analyze the fight in The Last Duel
The problem with the Hulk rampage is physics. Insanely strong is one thing. But his mass isn't insanely high so the momentum would be limited and steel is strong. And friction is limited, too. So all this strength would have a hard time finding enough leverage. I'd love to see a Hulk that is physically accurate.
the saber fight from the polish film the deluge from 1974
I love the reference to it in Witcher 3 againts Olgeird. One of my favorite sequences in the game 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Who else feels queasy until Marcus validates a scene you like?
HAHHHAHAHAA! Love this comment!
Another reminder that I need to finish game of thrones and start watching Shogun
The fight between dom and Hobbs is so OTT and it’s glorious
If you wanted to cover animated fights that utilise mocap then watch Maul vs Ashoka from the last season of Clone Wars, they actually got Ray Park to do the mocap for maul
The Last Samurai is one of my favorite movies and I would never consider it a "White Savior" movie. He doesn't save them. If anything they save him from his own demons. Seeing the movie from Algren's perspective was essential to help any non Japanese viewer to experience everything from a fresh perspective, just like Algren. I was learning about Japanese culture and the samurai along with him as the movie unfolded.
that darth vader scene is the biggest reason to watch rogue one
You should compare Neo vs Smith to Vin Diesel vs The Rock.
Neo vs Smith: Neo has been told time and time again that engaging an Agent in combat is practically suicide. They keep telling him that if he sees an Agent that he must run as escape is his only hope. Even the lesser Agents have been shown to kill the freedom fighters with negative difficulty. When Neo is alone with Smith, he absolutely does NOT have the option to run away and he must engage him in a fight to the death. This is perfect because you know that with what Neo was being gassed up for means we would be watching a Baptism By Fire
Vin Diesel vs The Rock: the only tension was trying to work around both actors having a no losing clause in their contracts. The fight boils down to no one taking true damage despite what they threw each other through
the last duel
For a video commentary about good and bad fight scenes I am surprised you failed to even mention Once Upon A Time In China 1 & 2 starring Jet Li, which is for me the gold standard for choreographing a great fight scene.
If we dive into realistic sword fights in movies, there is one you might not have heard of, but it has been called the best one in cinematic history. OK, it's a sabre fight, not sword per se. It is the duel between Andrzej Kmicic and Michał Wołodyjowski in the Polish movie "Potop" from 1974. Easy to find in YT if you type in the names :)
Vader in empire scared the crap out of me as a kid he has no fear of luke and when he gets hurt he instantly disarms him luke is like a puppy vs a pitbull
The phenomen of exhaustion should be more present in fight scenes for me.
People fighting are drones most of the time.
I've only seen that first episode of Blue Eye Samurai, but I very much want to see more. I thoroughly enjoyed that first episode.
Since you did Sword and Sandals today, it's a shame that you missed out the skeleton fight at the end of Jason and the Argonauts. As commented before, I'm not sure if you'd consider it a good or bad fight, but I'd be very curious to see your take on it - considering the stop motion effects from 1963!
Yes, i remember your comment from last tine....I'll try and remember it for the future!!
@@MarcusFlemmings Excellent! Thanks for the excellent content as always!
Jackie Chan Chinese movies: Jackie will fight to the finish and won’t give up til he wins, no one’s coming to clutch the fight for Jackie, you can see Chan overcoming the cracks in his plot armor
Jackie Chan Hollywood movies: Jackie wins cuz someone else shoots the bad guy for him
If you have not seen it yet might I suggest Bangkok knockout. It’s an okay movie but it’s entertainment with some fun fights in it. Also maybe look at some of the sword play in the mask of zorro?
I don't even rewatch The Game of Thrones, but I do rewatch The Battle of the Bastards. You're right, it's peak.
That Vader scene in Rogue One is probably the beat thing Lucasfilms has done in about 10 years.
Imagine how funny it’d be if an ex marine was one of the critics who gave Uwe Boll his bad reviews
Boll is a coward. Seanbaby was willing to fight him. However, Seanbaby is big, and knows how to fight, so Boll punked out and just picked on out of shape nerds. Punched way harder than necessary too, just an overall unpleasant bully.

Only the first film has any salt.
it is by far the best darth vader scene

No Tony Jaa? Seeing muay thai inspired fight scenes was such a shock!
I once again am asking you to cover the fight between the three main characters in Stalker (tarkovsky).
Shall do soon!
as far as the rock movies go I always enjoyed his movie welcome to the jungle, he even has a rule in the movie to avoid guns
Random suggestion from a nerd here, I’d like to see some of the QTE’s or dynamic intros from the Yakuza/ Like A Dragon series on here, maybe even some from the show when it comes out. That or literally any video game representation. I’m not picky
