I've noticed this a long time ago. I think it depends on the character too. We need filipinos with different personalities, not just being passive and humble about everything. Celebrities should have certain Aura that is unique to them as well not just talent. Another reason is they just don't want us, because it's not our time yet and they're forcing us to not yet go on the main stage not just in the entertainment industry but also human development. Though we are already developing fast.

    • @asabovesobelow851
      @asabovesobelow851 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes another reason is we don't support. We only go with the hype then disappear after a few weeks. For example I knew EZ mil's songs even before he blew up. When he blew up Filipinos were riding him, but now not that much anymore.

Thank you for including SB19 on this because currently, they are our best bet to give filipino music a bigger global platform. Them being the 1st Filipino and Southeast Asian act to be ever nominated in Billboard Music Awards and their growing number of international/foreign fans, the future is bright for SB19 and Ppop.

The biggest example of Filipino Groups who fully trust and is fully supported by their community is SB19 with their A'tins. Their music, their story and their passion for creative music has been breaking stereotypes for Filipinos achieving global popularity, and I really think that a big chunk of their success is their very solid and supportive fanbase not just locally but also worldwide.

I hope a true homegrown talent make it on the international mainstream. Like distinguished as OPM. And yes, I strongly agree that it's in us Filipino community that should boost them up! How can you expect something to be strong and long lasting when it's not founded good. Like, better ground the artist here on the Philippines first rather than catapulting them.
Actually, many have lose their hope in our music industry. Generally people with vision really does make it, they and they will thrive. That's why I hope, more artist with vision and grit for OPM be born in the PH. Can't wait for those breakthroughs happen.

Nice points! For me, it all boils down to the support given by our fellow countrymen to a certain act for them to at least have an even ground with international artists. But the way i see it, most filipinos would only support an artist from the philippines if they already have western validation. Colonial mentality still at play /sigh. Anyway, stan bgyo!

It's really hard, we've only been independent for roughly 120 yrs from spain and 70 yrs from America since 1898 and 1946 respectively. It's been rocky since then and that time isn't enough for us as a society to stop this negative mindset from clouding our judgement. This is just anecdotal on my part but other South east asian nations or former colonial countries seem to have a similar colonial mentality problem.

    UK: Justine Afante.
USA: Angelica Hale, Vanessa Hudgens, Nicole Scherzinger, Hailee Steinfeld, country singer Neal McCoy, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, guitarist Mike Inez.
They made it in the Western music indudustries.
David Foster + Jim Brickman are 2 insiders who work with Filipino singers.

"As industry players and consumers continue to embrace Filipino sound, American labels will eventually have to catch up too. And it actually starts with us, the Filipino community. Our artists will only be as marketable as we allow them to be with our support, our ears and our money. Engage with their social media, stream their songs, share their music with your friends especially your friends outside the Filipino community. For us to make it big, we need to expand past our own."

    Thoughts,,
Doesn't this vid perpetuate the idea that the western market is the only valid market our music can be successful and known in??? Why does this idea exist still in 2021?
Why not showcase other cases that is not western focused,, other regional markets? Or at least justify why only this perspective is shown (although I understand the media company primarily targets the filipino diaspora)
Also there seems to be a distinct line (or at least for me) when you say filipino representation when a huge chunk of your video really doubles down on fil-American personalities in western media,, which arguably could have different cultural contexts
Also i think the sexbomb data has been debunked already but i guess you should check.

I think the answer to this the sound of the material they release. If you listen to BTS their music is marketable because they choose to spend money and hire American producers and songwriter. Which makes it easier for American listeners to relate. Philippines need to use this formula because music perspective by Filipino is different from US audience.

Actually its the goverments support. The government of korea instotutomalized the support for their music making its as their export product hence the birth of the KPOP industry . Incentives and assimilating it as part of its post asian financial crisis agenda and its called the hallyu wave, its part of their "cultural revolution" . Korea made sure to create their brand of music. Its based on american pop music in steroids that pave the way for the international success of lots of kpop group. And besides our music has always been american sound based. We actually were ahead of everyone in asia. While korean still listens to trot in the early 90s, hiphop and pop r&b was already our thing. The difference is that we never had such support. The korean government even established an independent agency just for it. If sounding like an american is the thing,we dont need to hire americans, its inate to filipino musician. Its marketing, funding and also getting rid of colonial mentality is what need.

The US standard is not even that much of a difference to ours. Actually as it has always been proven the philippines is the US testing ground. Experts says that if an american music succeed in the philippine market it will succeed globally that how high filipino music taste is. OPM just like our food is the original fusion music even before "fusion" was even a thing. Actually being too "american" i think is our problem. If your going to really think about it Boa' music became a hit in the west because it was hardcore KPOP poking interest from the "white people" cause its unique and something new.

Tama ka, hindi totoo yon. Fake news lang siya na nag grow as a meme tapos may nagrepost na legitimate news page but dinelete din nila right after pero madami nang nakapag repost kaya madaming nag akalang totoo. Imposibleng makapagtop ang album sales non, competitors nila nung araw ang mga JPOP girl groups tas up and coming na din ang kpop groups before 2010.
