- This video shows how Filipino music evolved through time from precolonial music to modern pop. It showcases the different styles and genres of Filipino music.
This is a remaster of the previous video. • The Evolution of Filip... . There are some songs removed and years corrected but with more videos included.
I do not own anything used in this video. All credit goes to the original owners of the songs and music videos used.
For suggestions please write a comment and don't forget to like the video. Support OPM
Ito yong hinahanap ng ibang reactors about sa kng paano nagbabago yong OPM throughout the years.
Kaya I agree tlaga don about sa SB19, ksi it's a new taste for OPM. No matter what may the sound the genre is still you can't deny the fact na OPM Pa rin yon and sign na throughout the years magbabago tlaga yong tinig ng OPM pro ang mahalaga prin tlga rito is OPM pa rin, bxta kailangan lng tlga mging open-minded sa mga gnito pra mas ma-improve and makilala yong OPM internationally. Opinion ko lng nman yon.
This can also be called evolution of Philippine popular music. I appreciate the effort!
im starting to think this is a filipino history lesson
Ofc it is, we’re learning right here
It is a history lesson if you get to know what music was like before
Yo same here. I thinked it too!
it is
16th Century- Pre Collonial Music (tribal music)
17th - 19th century - Spanish Influenced Folk Music
Early 20th Century - 1950s Filipino Opera Classics
1960s - Kundiman, American Influence Music (Country, Motown)
1970s - Kundiman, Classical Rock, Disco
1980s - Disco, RnB, New Wave, Kundiman, Blues, Classic Rock, Soul
1990s to 2000s - Rap/Hiphop, RnB, Soul, Ballad, Disco, Classic Rock, Punk Rock, Alternative Rock, Pop (This are the times were the word "OPM" mostly used)
2010s - still have the genres of 90s and 2000s, but with more Pop and with Korean Music influences, and in later years Rap took off
2020s - Underground Raps start appearing, Rap/Hiphop and Indie Rock are taking the lead, the older genre's still active.
(i'm not a Music Expert tho im a History Student so if i was innaccurate i would gladly listen for correction)
How about adding popular P-Pop boy and girl group like SB19, MNL48, and Alamat because influenced by K-Pop and J-Pop groups?
According to the video, The Philippines music started to show American influence during the late 50s, and the influence, or the sound changed in the early 80s. it progressively shifted into what we know today as modern OPM.
It really does! If you were to translate songs like "Alak" or "Katawan" and have it be released in America, they probably wouldn't know it was from The Philippines
Filipino music is filipino music hindi tayo nasa isa o dadalawang genre and style lang, diverse tayo kaya nating gawin lahat ng style, sana ma appreciate natin yung music natin noon hanggang ngayonng sumasabay tayo sa trend ❤
OPM IS NOT DEAD!
And will NEVER be
Thanks to those who watched and liked the video. Will create a improved video with more songs showcasing the evolution of Filipino music

Just subscribed... Thanks for your effort. Do some more please....
Thank you po for your efforts in making this video!
The Eraserheads really conquered the 90's
1879: Flor de Manila
1898: Nuestra Patria
1903: Salve Patria
Mapapamura ako sa efforts mo pare. Mahirap gawin yan. Mga pips ikalat natin ito pakiusap lang. Mahirap gawin ito.
DEEP IN MY HEART JOSE MARI CHAN 1967
It shows na tama nga si pablo- sb19 leader. Our music is very diverse and we also see how other music influence us. It's not just about ppop/kpop.
Late 50's - 70's are the BEST!!!! Btw thank you for the one who posted this
Thanks for the effort... This is a nostalgic trip. However there other genres that started to branched out before the entry of the 90s. Rap, alternative rock and metal seems less represented. We also have rich reggae music. I guess it's hard to compile the diverse musical landscape we have in a single video.
Thankyou po.
Halos mga kanta tlga rito is legendary na tlga even the 1960's till now.
I love Filipino music, I'm from Indonesia
Honestly, natutuwa ako sa mga kantang ito na nauso on the modern generation:
*Ojo Kalugurang Daka
*Dodong Charing
*Gi Fingers
*Leleng Ko
*Gugmang Ga Aso-Aso
Why? Hindi dahil my personal preference only. But those are the examples ng Regional OPM music na dapat ma-hype pa lalo sa modern generation.
Yung mga Kapampangan music, Waray music, Ilocano music, we name it. Kaya mainstream artists really should also learn appreciating, singing and dancing Regional OPM songs at i-market sa Metro Manila.
Parang nag flashback ang buhay ko by watching these videos, some song made me smile, while other song brings back pain.
Rock song start down hill after 2010 we still have good rock song but rarely and i love that 2017 they still comeback thanks to december avenue and 4 of spades. I don't really like rap song before but thanks to abra and gloc 9 they make the modern rap quality sounds good. Even i didn't like some other modern rap i still love how catchy tune and have quality sound effects. I like shanti dope and al james(a bit) for making modern rap good 👌 still opm never die 🔥 opm is ♥️
Nice 👍
Salute sa mga haligi ng OPM❤️
Astig neto ah
My old kind of music taste just took in A LOT of new songs from this video
Ur vid is one and only. U inspire me hehe. Yan ang project na kumakati sa isip ko since 2018 and you nailed it. Good job again sir
Thanks a lot for this effort but I wish the excerpts were a bit longer and cut after a line is over and has expressed the idea of the line. Please consider good editing. But, again this is much appreciated. Just a constructive criticism.
Thanks for your comment. For now I will look for new ideas for future videos and will further improve the editing for the videos. Again thansk
Michael Pangilinan - Bakit Ba Ikaw (2014)
Nice to here this Philippines folk
Shoutout to the guy who recorded the pre-1500s
15:58 - 16:03 Ayos yun ah. Na notice ko yun hahaha
The dedication
I just wonder why you did not include PPOP genre here. Is the music they are putting out not considered Filipino music?
He did include it tho? But maybe not the recent ones since this was made 2 years ago but there's clearly 2 p-pop songs there: 36:34 - 36:40
I hate it when people try to downplay the colonization of The Philippines and think I'm being self hateful for stating the effect it had on my country! This literally shows what I've been talking about!
Yeah! SHOUT OUT TO THE PHILLIPINES!!!
It's like time travel
OPM is still the best music.
OPM of this decade has been dominated by Indie music.
sino po kumanta ng pakiusap noong 1921?
5:40 Anak - Freddie Aguilar
NAPAKASAKIT KUYA EDDIE ROEL CORTEZ 1984
I'm just wondering why martin and pops who were so popular in the mid 80's not a single song was in here? Just asking.
Saan ang Bakit Ba Ikaw by Michael Pangilinan? sa 2014

Listening to the lyrics of the musics from 70's to early 80's, looking at their albums' pictures/photos and watching their video clips, is the real history that marshall law is not as bad as they say it is.
A pictures and videos capture a snapshot of time. If course during Marshall law there was good and bad. Hitler helped conceive the Volkswagen Beatle does that mean the nazis weren’t bad?
to the music that is..

Filipino ballads nowadays are products of perfect blend of R&B and Kundiman blues (e.g. "Ikaw Lang Naman" by Elaine Duran; "Kaibigan Lang Pala" remake by Liezel Garcia, "Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang" remake by BuDaKhel, "Kung Sakali" Michael Pangilinan, "Maghihintay Ako" Jona Viray, "Ikaw Nga" South Border, "Kung Malaya Lang Ako" Kris Lawrence, "Mahal Na Kita" Tanya Dawood, etc.)
