Victor Eduardo Anchundia Moreira Silent Hill 2 and 3 are hands down my favorite games of all time. Mainly because of the beauty of nostalgia and because I was blessed with being able to play through the games when I was much younger and still had my child-like sense of imagination allowing the games to be undeniably terrifying while also mysteriously intriguing. I was able to play the second game back when I was in 2nd grade in 2002 thanks to spending the night at a friend's house whose mom let us rent whatever game we wanted, be in M rated or not. I still remember and will always remember playing the game late into the night even after my friend had gone to sleep. Trying to traverse through the apartment complex while my friend was sleep a few feet away from me was such a terrifying experience and was incredibly magical, one of my favorite gaming experiences of all time. I was able to talk my mom into purchasing the game for me after countless hours of begging and ugh was i absolutely enthralled with it. And with the internet still blossoming I was able to browse various forums, including a silent hill dedicated forum on neoseeker where I would discuss the symbolism with other people and it was just an overall incredible experience that surely would've been less fantastic if I had played it when I was older and didn't hold the same innocent feelings toward the world that I had. I had the same experience with Silent Hill 3 and even Silent Hill 4 but to a much lesser extent. However being a Silent Hill fan is like being raped by a loved one. Growing up one of my biggest let downs was seeing how incredible Silent Hill: Homecoming looked in gameplay trailers, and with the next generation of consoles being released the new HD graphics blew me away, however when I finally got my hands on the game I was so god damn disappointed it still hurts my heart. To this day I haven't enjoyed another Silent Hill game minus some bits of Shattered Dreams. However Hideo Kojima came straight outta left field with PT and it seemed like all hope was not lost. When PT was released I was no longer the young tater tot with the world seemingly still in the palm of my hand child I once was, but having my gaming experiences refined by playing many games since including all of the Metal Gear games and even reading and coming to love Junji Ito's manga's and also finding a love for film and being excited to see what kind of monsters Del Toro could conjure up, and with Akiria Yamaoka at the helm composing the soundtrack it seemed like my childhood dream of another Silent Hill game that could give me those same feelings Team Silent once had was coming to fruition! But we all know how this story ends. And once again Konami spread my already sore and busted open asshole that they had repeatedly raped countless times with their garbage releases of terrible Silent Hill game after terrible Silent Hill game. They didn't even buy me dinner and until the day I die my asshole will remain sore. Here's to hoping that some of the ideas Kojima had for Silent Hills will be implemented into Death Stranding. Until then I'll continue doing my yearly ritual of playing through Silent Hill 2 and 3 while also listening through their OSTs on rainy drives trying to grasp for those youthful memories of me walking the halls of my junior high listening to their OSTs on my big old school Apple iPod, whilst wishing I could be home to be discussing the games on Internet forums and playing through them alone in the dark until late at night in my room. rip silent hill, you'll forever be a gem that will mean a lot to me. Even with fantastic gaming experiences always releasesing, with the Witcher 3 being one of my new favorite gaming experiences of all time, Silent Hill 2 and 3 will forever be a childhood reminder of the joys I once felt as a child, as dark as that seems.

Konami was always a scummy conservative Japanese company, they were just better at disguising it. The formation of Team Silent itself was basically the result of a case of jinji ido where the company brass put a bunch of employees they didn't like into a division without anything going on and waiting for them to quit.

Just to remember,in different forums Silent Hill 2 was criticized for not being a Silent Hill 1 sequel with Harry also criticized for being different.Konami was disappointed on how SH2 reception was and asked Team Silent to do a sequel of SH1 when in reality they wanted to do a game similar to SH2 without any sequel and they had to rush the development of Silent Hill 3 (a pretty good game anyway). I just discovered these infos recently,I just remember me,my mother and my father loving it when it was released and I am happy that years later more and more people understood how damn amazing this game was.It's my #1 favorite game of all times.
Yes the third one sort of felt like a step back from what SH2 presented, which elevated the media to a higher art form. SH3 felt like it wanted to hop on the horror action trend that was very relevant back in the early 2000s which made the disturbing imagery and themes feel more trivial and on the shallow surface as a consequence. I am aware that the third one also has underlayers to it's themes like SH2, but as a consequence it felt like two conflicting parts were working against each other in the game, one wanting to delve deep into the themes while the other carrying the pace of a horror action shooter, so I. The end it ended up being a pretty middle of the road experience. I feel Team Silent wanted to make a profound story but Konami were the ones to force that horror action stuff into it.
@@Mrhostil95 the good points of SH3 for me are the difficulty (except the trial and error stuff),the horror elements (it is a pretty scary game),the gameplay,the graphics evolution and the main character but story-whise,secondary characters,exploration and lore it is very underwhelming compared to the first 2 games.The first one was a great balance of exploration,story and pure horror but the third game wanted to be a bit too much action,frustrating and many things were rushed because of Konami ideas of making a RESIDENT EVIL-like game despite being a sequel to SH1. All of 3 great games anyway with Silent Hill 4 being an alright SH but very disturbing,with very interesting mechanics and a very good horror-thriller story.

But to me, SH2 affects you on a deeper level, especially if you let your mind ruminate and dwell on the symbolism and themes it presents. It's much more of a psychological horror experiences which feels introspective and personal, making the story a character study on James' and his inner conflicts. Sh3 dropped the ball and continued a very cliche and overused theme of dismantling and fighting an evil cult, which is nowhere near as original and new as what the previous game offered. I was only scared at time because of its superb ambience and sound design. The monters look very typical (not like the anthropomorphic monsters that symbolized the sexual repression of James), and again the story is subpar. Heathers character however has more personality than James, but then again, James isn't mentally well enough to let his real personality shine through.

So interesting to see and listen to Mr. Sato . His work is so important. The CGI scenes from both SH1 and 2, with their gloomy look, contributed so much to the games' eerie atmosphere. Also, I was surprised they dared show some of the most gruesome scenes from the game!
Kojima and Team Silent were the main pillars of Konami who got the biggest budgets on PS2 after their worldwide successes. I can't believe they axed Team Silent for one failure. Konami has not problems with money they have always been greedy. It reminds me of when Sony mismanaged JAPAN Studio in the PS3 days and couldn't get it organised on PS4 either. Project Siren was dissolved and smaller games become the focus with Team ICO having issues with The Last Guardian and Project Siren had rough times with survival horror not being as popular as they used to be so Sony decided for episodic with Siren and put them on a smaller project like Gravity Rush.
this has to be the most....awkward E3 presentation I've ever seen. They all looked extremely nervous, especially that translator, who sounded unsure of herself. Anyway..........SILENT HILL 2 is awesome!

Akihiro Imamura in a later interview decried the poor memory of the PS2, causing them to revise designs for buildings in Silent Hill 2, which previously were 1:1 renderings of reference photos taken in San Bruno California. Also cited is having to scale back character models and textures. Sato being in charge of the latter I'm sure would have had a few things to say had he not had all these game industry eyes on him.
I wish I could have been there to witness the unveiling of this masterpiece. SH2 is an amazing game and like RE2 was the high point of the franchise imo. It raised the bar so high even though it was only the second game. Playing SH2 on the ps2 to me is the only way to play this game, it was created around that hardware and the game took advantage of all the horsepower the console had. Ik that there is a fanmod of the pc version, while that is an amazing way to play the game, there is just something about playing it on the original console that it was released on. It makes it feel more authentic and it really shows off what the ps2 is capable of.
I would like to agree with this comment but as an owner of both the original ps2 hardware + game and the Enhanced Edition mod.... the PC mod is now by far the best way to play it. The ps2 version has to be played on a very solid CRT which can be hard to come by depending on your whereabouts. I have component ps2 cables but it still doesn't match the PC fan mod as far as quality.

CRT monitors are pretty obsolete and there's no other way on hardware to experience such rich and solid blacks the game utilizes throughout the game with today's hardware. Also the enhanced edition has shaper pixels and resolution and the game runs much more smoothly than in the PS2. I remember the loading screens everytime you entered a room, and it got annoying. In the PC mod version they are pretty much non existent. Playing with the original hardware nowadays is more of a novelty than being necessary, and in fact it can be quite expensive ironically.
@@rekzuh After playing the enhanced edition for myself I do have to agree that it’s the better way to play SH2, but I still think the Original Ps2 version has its place but for people who want to stick to consoles or don’t have a computer the ps2 version is the best way to play. The OG Xbox and the HD collection version especially have flaws that ruin the experience Imo and are inferior versions.

Unlike Hideo (which I respect his work), Team Silent was never a bragging and show off pricks like Kojima was. That's what makes me a bigger fan of them than Kojima productions. Their games 1-3 were just beautiful symbolic artistic games and YET they never were like "YES WE MADE THIS GAME, US, TEAM SILENT, PRAISE US. I was not excited for the P.T silent hills reveal UNTIL there were some speculations that some members of Team Silent were going to be involved

Really? I watched some Interviews with Kojima, but never found him to be cocky. In general I find Japanese developers more reserved. Maybe Kojima comes off as arrogant, I can only tell what my impression is from his Interviews or award shows. I never even cared or played MGS. Maybe he is a little narcisstic for putting his name on everything and himself into the game. It's always stupid, because there are so many involved in creating a game. What I don't like about his new game is, that he uses so many actors, also people he adores. It comes off as like the game was made for himself. I don't get the hype. I'm more sad that they fucked up Silent Hill. Silent Hills PT looked interesting to me until I saw Norman Reedus. I prefer new, unreal characters. The story and horror factor was good. Also the ghost Lisa. I wouldn't call it a Silent Hill game though. It isn't the same. SH was more psychological and not jumpscares and clichés.

this has to be the most....awkward E3 presentation I've ever seen. They all looked extremely nervous, especially that translator, who sounded unsure of herself. Anyway..........SILENT HILL 2 is awesome!

You can't really tell here, but he's being very sarcastic. Akihiro Imamura in a later interview decried the poor memory of the PS2, causing them to revise designs for buildings in Silent Hill 2, which previously were 1:1 renderings of reference photos taken in San Bruno California. Also cited is having to scale back character models and textures. Sato being in charge of the latter I'm sure would have had a few things to say had he not had all these game industry eyes on him.

I wish I could have been there to witness the unveiling of this masterpiece. SH2 is an amazing game and like RE2 was the high point of the franchise imo. It raised the bar so high even though it was only the second game. Playing SH2 on the ps2 to me is the only way to play this game, it was created around that hardware and the game took advantage of all the horsepower the console had. Ik that there is a fanmod of the pc version, while that is an amazing way to play the game, there is just something about playing it on the original console that it was released on. It makes it feel more authentic and it really shows off what the ps2 is capable of.
I would like to agree with this comment but as an owner of both the original ps2 hardware + game and the Enhanced Edition mod.... the PC mod is now by far the best way to play it. The ps2 version has to be played on a very solid CRT which can be hard to come by depending on your whereabouts. I have component ps2 cables but it still doesn't match the PC fan mod as far as quality.
@@rekzuh I have to agree with you. CRT monitors are pretty obsolete and there's no other way on hardware to experience such rich and solid blacks the game utilizes throughout the game with today's hardware. Also the enhanced edition has shaper pixels and resolution and the game runs much more smoothly than in the PS2. I remember the loading screens everytime you entered a room, and it got annoying. In the PC mod version they are pretty much non existent. Playing with the original hardware nowadays is more of a novelty than being necessary, and in fact it can be quite expensive ironically.
@@rekzuh After playing the enhanced edition for myself I do have to agree that it’s the better way to play SH2, but I still think the Original Ps2 version has its place but for people who want to stick to consoles or don’t have a computer the ps2 version is the best way to play. The OG Xbox and the HD collection version especially have flaws that ruin the experience Imo and are inferior versions.

Unlike Hideo (which I respect his work), Team Silent was never a bragging and show off pricks like Kojima was. That's what makes me a bigger fan of them than Kojima productions. Their games 1-3 were just beautiful symbolic artistic games and YET they never were like "YES WE MADE THIS GAME, US, TEAM SILENT, PRAISE US. I was not excited for the P.T silent hills reveal UNTIL there were some speculations that some members of Team Silent were going to be involved

Hideo Kojima game made by Hideo Kojima, with Hideo Kojima, screenplay by Hideo Kojima, with guest appearance of Hideo Kojima - seriously, first thing that stuck with me after playing last Metal Gear was his name appearing like 3 times during tutorial... this and that thrilling part when I couldn't walk. I really think that the fact Kojima wanted to make movies weights heavily on his games. Some people love it, me personally - I hate those non-interactive openings of his games.
I love metal gear solid and silent hill 1-4 but kojima screwed last metal gear against old fans will, fired the voice actor that played snake during 20 years and ruined mgo3. That silent hills was gonna be the best i can't believe Konami cancelled that
Really? I watched some Interviews with Kojima, but never found him to be cocky. In general I find Japanese developers more reserved. Maybe Kojima comes off as arrogant, I can only tell what my impression is from his Interviews or award shows. I never even cared or played MGS. Maybe he is a little narcisstic for putting his name on everything and himself into the game. It's always stupid, because there are so many involved in creating a game. What I don't like about his new game is, that he uses so many actors, also people he adores. It comes off as like the game was made for himself. I don't get the hype.
I'm more sad that they fucked up Silent Hill. Silent Hills PT looked interesting to me until I saw Norman Reedus. I prefer new, unreal characters. The story and horror factor was good. Also the ghost Lisa. I wouldn't call it a Silent Hill game though. It isn't the same. SH was more psychological and not jumpscares and clichés.
