16 WRC stage wins, 2 consecutive manufacturers titles, 4 consecutive European Rallycross Championship titles, and 2 Paris Dakar victories. Everywhere this car went, it dominated.

Or a lot of other countries, while they're unfortunately automatic only!
Indeed they should be on sale basically everywhere and have manual gearboxes as standard!
(For example, here in Ireland, we can't buy them, Lotus cars, cars like the Nissan 350Z, 370Z, GTR etc or the recently launched on this side of the pond Genesis brand in Ireland and many other cool models!
When they can in the U.K., and while for example, I COULD buy many of the cars I mentioned in Northern Ireland or England etc, but first I'd have to pay in pounds which are worth more than the Euro, then pay VRT, VAT and other taxes and in some cases pay twice the price they do in the U.K., while many of the sporty cars we have gotten were either withdraw fully or partially not long after launching or are missing, specs, engines or gearboxes other countries get, in particular the U.K.! 😯😂🩲😀🤘

The 205 16 is one of the cars that reminds us all that as things get faster, more computerized, automatic and *gag* EV-- where we really need to go is back to things like this. Quick but not blistering, engaging and most of all rewarding.

There were two that were sold by GM at auction. Both were owned by Lotus back when GM owned Lotus. Lotus used the two Turbo 16 a test cars for testing very early rear wheel steering. Another fantastic video Hyphen!

This brings back so many memories. I bought a brand new 1.6 205 GTI back in 1986, and in the showroom in chiswick London was a Turbo 16....and what a sight it was!!!! Loved the 205 GTI as the handling was on another level...Probably the most fun car I have ever owned and I have owned a lot! Thanks for the memories...

I’ve waited years for anyone on TH-cam to do a drive video of a T16 and then JT-S “nocks it out of the park” with wonderfully worded & beautifully shot peace and even relatively quickly driven considering it age/exorbitant value. Now I’m waiting on “tender hooks” for the other content from your European excursion, ISSIMI just keeps on upping the game when it comes to cool & unique car content.

@@MOSSFEEN But you said 309 GTI16. There was a 160hp 16v version of the 309 using the same MI16 engine as in the 405 MI16. The 405 MI16 and also the Citroen BX 16v started with aluminium block 1,9 16v engine. And then the 405 moved to a 2.0 16v engine after that. I have a BX 16v alu 1,9 16v engine waiting in my garage for my 205 1,9 GTI. For once I get the time to restore it.

I'm sure I've never seen one on the road in my lifetime, even back in the day. Adjusting for inflation these cost the equivalent of £72,000 today (£25,000 in 1986). They are worth over £300,000 now though!

If i owned this car i would HAVE to turn that boost up at least somewhat. Crank it to 300-350bhp? Otherwise it is being held back so much from its true potential (like well under 50%!) In reality due to the extra weight of the AWD system it isn't a huge difference in performance compared to the standard/normal 1.9ltr 205GTI that it should be. Obviously if that boost was turned up just slightly that would be an entirely different matter!

205 GTI and Turbo 16 are probably the best looking small cars in the history. That body design was just perfect and dynamic. First generation VW Golf GTI was pretty close though. Somehow Peugeot never captured the same magic with 205's successors. Sure, Lancia Delta Integrale was a legend and now it's an icon but if you look at the styling it wasn't nearly good looking as the 205.

5:20 "Moved from being transversely mounted front wheel drive, to be mounted amidships and with four wheel drive..."
_Amidships_ is quaint jargon, but is the 'rear mid-engine' position still transverse, or was it also turned north-south?
Was the front suspension changed from MacPherson strut, to double wishbones?
The rear suspension was obviously changed from transverse torsion bars - but to what?
