    I had an 89 205XS 1.4. It was a wonderful car with sublime ride and handling, great steering feel and lots of space efficiency. Throw in low gearing with a revvy engine, it made for a pocket rocket. I only sold it when my first born was due and my wife didn't fancy our chances if I stuffed it.

      That's the only concern really isn't it, safety. Things have come a long way in that arena since the 80's. Bet it was good with the 1.4 under the bonnet 👍

      @@JJonCars Fabulous. Thanks to a twin choke Solex carb it knocked out 85 bhp and would to nearly 7000 rpm. My mate had a 1.6 GTI but I preferred my XS. I wish I still had it. I only got £375 when I traded it in for a sensible Citroen ZX.

    Another good review JJ. I had a serious accident in a 205 (air lifted!) and have to say I was very lucky - I wouldn't want to go in one again with the lack of safety features! Cheers

      Thanks Oli. Sorry to bring back those memories! It's the one thing that really puts me off the idea of owning a car from this time, or at least using one every day.

      With you on that mines a 1990 GRD OK the seat fabric is like granny's woolen skirt but it handles and rides well can do 600 miles on a tank 60mpg even battering along at motorway speeds and that durable motor slow but it will carry the speed you have.
      Don't know where priced will go for the cooking models but simple mechanicals and not much in the wsy of rust traps.
      No EGR to clog up.

    That's more like it - I much prefer to see this type of car - a car for the masses - and not that posh Bentley! In the late 90's where I worked, I regularly drove a 205 van doing courier work and quite enjoyed my driving experience. My then boss (who was tighter than a duck's quack!) liked to get his money's worth, and that van was run into the ground! They replaced it with a Skoda van (Felicia, I think it was) that wasn't so much fun to drive. That was one of many reasons that led to me leaving there for pastures new!

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I like to mix it up and film with different cars, and it was a great contrast going from one to the other. I bet it was brilliant as a little van.

    Great review and precise. I think it's a shame that the really late cars like this one didn't get a single airbag in the steering wheel but I guess they had to sell you on buying a Phase 2 106 over a 205 by that point.
    I still daily one of these, it's the turbocharged Mardi Gras and it's an absolute hoot. I don't think I could be without a 205.
