It seems one of the differences is in the coaching and the mentality of the team. In the past, most of the time when we needed a big play, we would get a critical mental mistake. This time, Ricardo Pepi had a clear look at goal, and he showed composure beyond his years in taking a carefully aimed shot at the corner of the goal, and hit it, rather than launching the ball into the 25th row of seats. Matt Turner had a save on a penalty. Yunus Musah, I believe it was had a goal line clearance when his opponent had a pass in front of goal. We did not give them much in the way of silly mental mistakes, and we allowed them to get frustrated, lose their composure and take the silly red card. I am optimistic when we get some of our defensive people back like Tyler Adams and Chris Richards back, as well as Balogun, Pocchetino can really go about the business of changing the culture from a team that does just enough, to a team that strives to be excellent. Mckenzie made quite statement in this game as well. We do need to move on from Ream. No fault of his, but he is not likely to be the guy we take in 2026, so we should be working the others in to take that place.
So, I think we need to add 2 more. 1. Busio needs to be first off the bench when someone needs to go into our midfield, especially when we need to control a game. Tillman atm looks like a liability and Busio is, the next most talented. 2. Dest is our Trent Alexander-Arnold. There is no way Dest is defending better than Scally in this team. There is no way Musah is creating more than Dest. Dest is essentially our TAA and we already have a Kyle Walker. Put Dest in the midfield.
The looked structured this time. Everyone holds their shape and the ball Moves through the middle. It’s not a constant string of crosses to the box. Called this 2 years ago when everyone was BJ or balogun. He’s fine. He’s good. Pepi has a higher ceiling. Pepi can create. Balogun needs to be fed. Pepi, seargent are similar in style and attack.
Disagree on Pepi. Both had a similar number of touches, despite the fact that overall the US starting 11 was stronger in this game. The difference is only that Pepi scored on his chance. It's a small sample size, and one can't make any determination on it. He scuffed it anyway. Yes, strikers are supposed to score goals. But you can't judge a striker on 4 games' worth of goals. You have to judge the striker either on 15+ games' goals or on how he looks in the games. And the problem with Pepi is this: That although he has improved in some of these areas, overall he's still not great in them. 1) He can't pass the ball. He can't control the velocity of a pass no matter if it's a normal pass or a one-time touch. he even is erratic with the direction. This means on the counterattack it will often break down with Pepi unless he either is fortunate enough to have easy touches or if he doesn't touch the ball until he is able to maneuver for a shot. Both Sargent and Balogun can pass. 2) when dropping deep he can't deaden the ball. he usually takes a heavy touch and to avoid that he often just passes the ball straight back to the back line 3) he's not great at hold up. 2 and 3 mean that Pepi doesn't help much with the build-up play or with the creation of scoring chances for his teammates. That doesn't mean he never helps, but he helps a lot less than Sargent or Balogun can. Pepi is a great poacher and he can open up space with his movement. But I believe we would find that if the USNT played 15 games with Pepi at the 9 and 15 with Sargent that perhaps Pepi would finish those 15 games with more goals than Sargent, but the whole team would finish with more goals scored in the games with Sargent. Pepi is just 21 and he has a chance to improve a whole lot. But he still needs to improve.
I really appreciate that you back up your opinion with an analysis of Pepi. A lot of times, people (me, too) will simply assert things without backing up their opinion. (As an aside, I agree with most of what you say.)
You gotta stop saying that people claimed it's impossible to win on the road in CONCACAF. Nobody said that. They just said it's harder than fans think given the level of the opponents. Jürgen Klinsmann even said this a bunch of times as did Tyler Adams to his club teammates. The field plus the hacking make it hard to actually play soccer.
Tac with the Tillman anti-jinx again. Tillman is bound to have multiple goal contributions. I still have faith in Tillman. I've watched every PSV gave for the past two years and he has the skill and is young. I think what he needs is Poch to help him find his legs with the National Team and player development could end up being one of Poch's biggest legacies with the USA if he can manage it.
I thought he played as a 6 for most of the game in replacement of Johnny, and did well keeping control of the ball and breaking up plays. I think we’d feel very different about this game if Vasquez and Jedi put away their chances.
It doesn't matter if Balogun is 10% better technically than Pepi, if Pepi is better at actually scoring and getting into scoring positions (and combining). You saw Pepi's reverse sole role assist for PSV, and he does that move all the time in combination play. He's good. He's not a poacher. He can actually play, plus he's faster than given credit for.
Yeah I cant see Musah and Scally on the field together working out in this current setup. If this formation stays the same, we really need a decent attacking RWB. Either Weah or Dest. Otherwise Pulisic or Balogun needs to play on the right but I doubt that’s going to happen. The right side of the field is a sinkhole.
You ignored a pretty darn good game by Turner. Yeah, he conceded the penalty that led to his save, but he basically had no choice after Nicholson spun around McKenzie. Terrible giveaway by Scally btw. In any event, learning number 8 would be that Turner remains our no. 1 option in goal, no question.
Our fan base is so utterly uneducated it is ridiculous. OMG TURNER CAN'T PLAY WITH HIS FEAT! Who gives a flying fuck if he can keep the ball out of the god damned net better than any other keeper we have, which is *SHOCKER* his god damned #1 responsibility. And what keepers do we have that ARE good with their feet? Zach? My god how many times has he made the most shockingly horrific blunders for City while attempting to play with his feat, worse than anything Turner has ever done. Face reality, none of them can so GTF over it and learn that we need to adapt out game to NOT EXPECT OUR KEEPERS TO PLAY WITH THEIR FEET! If our players are not proficient playing that way, DON"T MAKE THEM! It's not fucking rocket science. And when it comes to shot stopping, there are no other keepers on our roster that can compete with Turner so get used to seeing him because he is hands down our #1.
@@paulmiller7838 Having a better set up across the back line would help compensate for Turner's feet limitations. Assuming Poch is determined to play out of the back. Getting Dest back will help. But also finding an upgrade for Ream would help as well. Richards has shown some competency, and I like Tac's idea of adapting Tessmann to CB even better. Another candidate never talked about is Lennard Maloney. Having quicker, ball handling CBs is the wave of the future. We have an abundance of defensive MFs, time to adapt.
@paulmiller7838 Kochen is the best American keeper with his feet but I doubt he'll be ready for 26 so I guess Turner will just have to keep the position warm for Diego
I think Scally is here to stay in that RCB defensive spot, and we'll see Weah/Dest at the right wing. Both could be good there and bring different things. I'm especially excited to see Dest creating down the right side without necessarily being a defensive liability.
Possibly , but he could just tell Jedi to stay back as LCB and let Dest go forward, I agree with the fact that he will play with a pseudo back three. It’s wasting one of Jedi’s main attributes but it’s a possibility .
@johnhurt4792 he'll utilize both Jedi and Dest in attack. If he plays with a back 3 he could utilize Scally as a CB, he's played there before. ( or CCV, Zimmerman, Richards) Then use Jedi as a LWB and Dest as a RWB. I think that would better utilize Jedi and Dest's attacking attributes.
@@johnhurt4792 you would, but you'd gain on the wings. And our actual wingers (let's say Weah and Pulisic) could invert as either Dest or Jedi attack. We saw some of that last night. Pulisic would invert middle as Jedi came up the wing.
Why do they call it a hand ball if you the ball hits your arm? Your hand and your arm are two different parts. They should differentiate between a hand ball and a arm ball
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t get all the love for this game. The performance was the exact same as Berhalter’s teams (Pulisic was essentially the only danger man, absent striker after the first 10 minutes, dumb giveaways, iffy decisions defensively, run of the mill CONCACAFYness, bad refereeing, lack of creativity or assertiveness from midfield). We got away with this game more than anything. Ream absolutely should have been called for a handball and a second penalty for Jamaica. Even after that Jamaica looked incredibly dangerous until the second yellow and sending off (which was an idiotic play by the defender) and Turner made the first half penalty save and another good one on the corner kick by Bailey before the handball. For good chunks of the game we gave it away too easily and Jamaica played better. We were always going to have more possession but we didn’t do anything with it. If a Berhalter team had this exact result in this game on the road, people would say “okay yeah, great we won away finally, BUT WE SHOULD DO X,Y,Z…THIS WAS AWFUL…FIELD ISN’T AN EXCUSE…IT MATTERS HOW YOU PLAY AND HOW YOU LOOK…CONCACAF SUCKS ANYWAY”
The problem with many of your points is does Poch see it the same way? -I'm not sure Poch wants to phase Tim Ream out. -Poch likes Aaronson, and may want him as our 10.
I hate to say it, but it's starting to look like Tillman is soft. The Eredivisie isn't all that physical, but we all know that concacaf is. It really looked like in the friendly we had previously the physical play got to him and completely took him out of his game. He didn't get hit much in this game, but I think that was mostly because any time he got the ball he tried to get rid of it as quickly as possible. He looked like he really didn't want it half the time.
Is there a reason you get claiming people said it's impossible to win on the road in CONCACAF? I've told you a bunch of times. Nobody has ever said that. You're changing "not easy to win" to "impossible to win." Why??
Question: I don't watch Busio regularly, but if Tilman is shit again, would you play Busio at the 10 and McKennie in the double pivot? Or is Busio better further back?
field was bad, on defense was really good ngl, but i think the the us team didnt do that great on offence, hope we do a lot better next game in st.louis
Turner was talked about a lot in the post game stream. Now Dest… that’s a good question. If he keeps this same back 3 in possession… could he maybe play on the wing?
I think Tilman has a work ethic problem. We’ve seen him get benched at PSV for it. He could be so much more if he putt his heart in it. Deli Ali vibes, but maybe Poch can work with that.
Mark McKenzie definitely hasn't been tremendous for the U.S. He's ok. You commented on his weak 50/50 challenge in the box, plus he's limited technically. I'd rather Andrew Farrell, Joe Scally, & Reggie Cannon play CB than our guys. Once again, Peru called Andrew Farrell up, and he turned them down/
Man pls stop the gas lighting... pepi has done enough to pry the starting job away from balo and at minimum question whether Balo is #1. Pepi 11 goals in 29 apps. Balo 5 goals in 14 apps. You make it seem like Balo is far more productive. He isnt. But of course you wont admit this.

@ I’d still say we consistently see more out of Pepi. Balogun is all excitement. I still haven’t seen him look that great with us. We just talk about how good we think he will be 🤷♂️
Things I learned: --> Tillman has Harry Potter's invisibility cape, because most of match he disappeared. --> Thank goodness that we don't have to go through CONCACAF qualifying, because Pulisic wouldn't have made it out alive. --> US managers still don't know how to dress properly. Sargent might be a close 3rd at the moment but definitely not out of the roster please. He's even good on the wing and he's too good to not have off the bench if healthy.

Congrats Todd!
Why do you hate Gregg so much? He won us many trophies and got us into the round of 16 in the World Cup
Might be a hot take but Wessman, Cardoso, and McKennie is our best midfield trio rn
A win is a win
Great job USMNT
I think Scally is here to stay in that RCB defensive spot, and we'll see Weah/Dest at the right wing. Both could be good there and bring different things. I'm especially excited to see Dest creating down the right side without necessarily being a defensive liability.
no way, when Dest comes back and if he's healthy, he is #1 RB. His ability to provide attack is just too valuable.
@@ToblerX I agree with what you’re saying, but the problem is you will have to leave out an attacker.
Nene Brown would be great like for like backup for Jedi 🇺🇸
In rugby , we call them finisher not subs or reserves . They’re our finisher !
Nice!
The problem with many of your points is does Poch see it the same way?
-I'm not sure Poch wants to phase Tim Ream out.
-Poch likes Aaronson, and may want him as our 10.
I had no idea Berhalter was that bad in competitive concacaf away games. I knew it was bad, but not that bad.
Poch played Tillman as a DM, i don't know why Tillman is being called out 🤦♂️
Tillman actually looked up for it. He was much quicker to defend than Wes was which, for me was surprising.
I saw an early goal and good game management after
Someone reminded me where Chris Richards and Mark McKenzie play?
Chris Richards for Crystal Palace
Mckenzie for Toulouse in France.
What we learned is we need Adams and weah back. Also missed Richard’s for his ability to play out from the back. It proved pepi is the shit
Begging for just one vid without a GGG mention
Is there a reason you get claiming people said it's impossible to win on the road in CONCACAF? I've told you a bunch of times. Nobody has ever said that. You're changing "not easy to win" to "impossible to win." Why??
Their performance in COPA turned me off. I haven’t watched them since until this game. Let’s see if they show up game after game.
Wow one win and all hope is restored 😂😂😂. The reality is we won a game that Jamaica lost and should have actually been 4-1 in favor of Jamaica.
First Tac video in years without him complaining about Brendan Aaronson
Question: I don't watch Busio regularly, but if Tilman is shit again, would you play Busio at the 10 and McKennie in the double pivot? Or is Busio better further back?
Busio further back with Mckennie at the 10 but they can alternate throughout the game.
Pepi was all over the place trying to do mckenies job, there was almost never, that outlet for counterattack
He got no service so he went to force one but I don’t think that’s effective especially for his game
What about matt turners pk save, it basically won us the game
Poncho lost his first game away in concacaf to Mexico!!!
Friendly match
Yeah we should be winning this game 4-0
field was bad, on defense was really good ngl, but i think the the us team didnt do that great on offence, hope we do a lot better next game in st.louis
I can’t wait for all these TH-camrs to try to gaslight us into believing that Jo Scally is actually good.
The pitch looked like the front line in Ukraine. Artillery craters everywhere.
It rains every day in Jamaica since November
No comment on Turner's game?
Also, where do you think a healthy Dest slides in with this formation?
Turner was talked about a lot in the post game stream.
Now Dest… that’s a good question.
If he keeps this same back 3 in possession… could he maybe play on the wing?
@TacticalManager that'd be intriguing but who sits?
I like him, but Tillman can be lazy. I saw it a lot in Scotland. Less so in The Netherlands, but it’s still there.
Agreed,but I think it was a handball.
No, it wasn't.
Brazil can’t beat Venezuela home or away
We will beat them 3-0 at home
In your dream
I think Tilman has a work ethic problem. We’ve seen him get benched at PSV for it. He could be so much more if he putt his heart in it. Deli Ali vibes, but maybe Poch can work with that.
I lean that team like Panama and Honduras Jamaica they gonna start to beat the top 3 team more often from what I see ..
pepi > balo
I'm first Dear Filippo We didn't play so bad but We had scored very classy goal against Jamaica.🥰😍🤗❤🤍💙💯
I liked what I saw an ugly win is a win.
In basketball the 'super sub' is called a 6th man.
I’m still not buying the Richards is extremely talented school of thought
Mckenzie clears
Mark McKenzie definitely hasn't been tremendous for the U.S. He's ok. You commented on his weak 50/50 challenge in the box, plus he's limited technically. I'd rather Andrew Farrell, Joe Scally, & Reggie Cannon play CB than our guys. Once again, Peru called Andrew Farrell up, and he turned them down/
we hope the US scores some goals vs jamaica
We ride with pepi untill his form drops!! See ya Sargent!
I'm not happy! I hit the skip to 1:30 and you are rolling the intro I wanted to skip. Just make it the intro and get it over with!
TOTALLY agree on your comments about Weston McKinnie!!! 🇺🇸⚽️😉😊
Him at the 10, Pulisic & Weah
on the forward wings &
Pepi as the 9 🇺🇸⚽️🙏🏼🤞🏼🍀
The shirt winner looks 🤖 Ai
Man pls stop the gas lighting... pepi has done enough to pry the starting job away from balo and at minimum question whether Balo is #1.
Pepi 11 goals in 29 apps. Balo 5 goals in 14 apps. You make it seem like Balo is far more productive. He isnt. But of course you wont admit this.
Pepi hasn't even done enough on his Club to become the starter. You must be an el tri fan...🤷
@@DremianBlades-cx5lj Pepi just started his last game, he also plays alongside a legend in Luke De Jong. Balo also has less goals than Pepi in their respective leagues. Playing way more minutes. You must be a casual 🤷🏻
@@TivoKenevil Yes, I am a casual of the sport that knows, the level of play required at different European leagues. Also know, the difference between a bench warmer and a starter at a Club or national team level.
Who’s gonna tell Fillipo no one likes SoRare 😆
😮
No more Josh Sargent
Rather than a super sub, what if we call him a super hoagie, a nice classic hoagie with the finest meats and freshest trimmings.
Maybe a super gyro
Not an awesome performance by any means. But winning on the road against a decent side (for CONCACAF), on a terrible pitch, and without half of our best 11 is progress.
I dont see USA team doing much better at home.
He scores more than Balogun too… I’ll take Pepi all day
He actually does not. Let's also not forget Pepi's summer compared to Balogun.
@ I’d still say we consistently see more out of Pepi. Balogun is all excitement. I still haven’t seen him look that great with us. We just talk about how good we think he will be 🤷♂️
@@TacticalManagerenough of the gaslighting.
Soup or sub...why not both Jason's deli has the manger special. Stop making it complicated.
defending in the eredivisie is booty
Does Todd's mom know that he's using her credit card?
Lets see what happens at your home...upset
Yall could have done better
Things I learned:
--> Tillman has Harry Potter's invisibility cape, because most of match he disappeared.
--> Thank goodness that we don't have to go through CONCACAF qualifying, because Pulisic wouldn't have made it out alive.
--> US managers still don't know how to dress properly. Sure, the weather in Kingston was muggy, but that's no excuse for wearing a tired t-shirt and training pants. Pull out the nice dry-fit polo collar shirt with khakis, at least.
Have a Great Day for You too Dear Filippo.🥰😍🤗❤🤍💙💯
FIRST
Jamaica come for the win .. 3 v 1 ...lol
Gotta disagree on Sargent. I’d rather have him on the field than Musah on the wing. Meaning he can be our third striker and also a backup on the wing.
Sargent might be a close 3rd at the moment but definitely not out of the roster please. He's even good on the wing and he's too good to not have off the bench if healthy.
We learned that USMNT still plays boring soccer.
Who plays well on a potato field?
@@bent2 Mr. Potato Head
Dude I’m sorry but your Tillman take is not it, he was asked to come in and basically play as a 6 and he did his job. Honestly, what game were you watching? Calling him lazy when he intercepted multiple balls and multiple tackles 😭😂 like wth
He had 0 interceptions, according to every single app that tracks stats, he also had 1 tackle in 70+ mins.... I was watching the game.
They also move him to the 10 at some point because it wasn't working.
@@TacticalManager fotmob states (I know they suck) he had a 93% passing accuracy along with 100% tackles (1 tackle) won and 2 recoveries and 3/8 ground duels. 🤔 for being asked to play deep, I’d say he did his job.
Either way I appreciate the response brother and i agree to disagree on Tillman for now lol 🤝
@@TacticalManagerwhat are your thoughts on tessman? He’s all size no bark. He looked like a cone on defense. He did have that one through ball, but most players should be able to make that pass
I seen multiple moments he just looked asleep and was late to react
I can appreciate ugly wins against concacaf teams, but I learned that I'm bored out of my mind of the USMNT and I'll check back in summer of 2026.
Jamaica will win on Wednesday. I see a 2-1 game
No, they will lose. They don't have the potato field advantage in the US.
I dont think we will see much of Reyna in poch era he is clearly overrated
Every account we have from Poch is that he very much values Reyna's skill set, and was clearly regretful that injuries have kept him out. Injuries may stop Gio, but do not confuse injuries with lack of talent.
How lol. He been good for the usa. Maybe overrated for club.
This team is a lost cause. The so called, "golden generation" if it ever was one, is no more, or never has been. I've known this since October of last year when they lost 3-1 to a struggling Germany at home. They can't even play well against another concrap garbage team. It's time we accepted this and stop waiting for something that is not coming. Canada is going to take over the region soon, and they will give the best performance out of concacrap nations in the next World Cup. Enjoy.
Our Women Team is better than Men Team but I do not lose my hope for Our Beautiful USA Men Team. Dear Poch will fix all problems of this team.
