SHOULD IAN SWITCH TO AXIOM SHAFTS // Is It Time For a Big Shaft Change?

- Today Ian is in the bay testing out the Fujikura Axiom shafts against his Trust Modus 120's. See what Ian thinks of the feel between both sets of clubs and stick around for an extra test trying to se how "flighting" a shot goes with these shafts too.

We need an Axiom, MMT 125, LA L-Series comparison
These guys are the best….its the content we want to see that NOBODY else does or at least not as well.
My kid wakes up at 715 bruh what are you doin to me with this release 😂
I went through the process with a fitter guys. I’ve been an x100 /project x 6.5 player my whole life. I was confident I would end out with 125x when i showed up. My fitter found that the 105s fit me as well as the x100. We put the Axiom 105s in a set of p770’s. It’s a truly magical feel and experience at impact. No balloons, all shots are in play. Lighter shaft, but stable. For some reason the 125x and 105x were too stiff: but that’s why we work with a fitter. We tried the 105S and is was like a switch turned. We even decided to put the Axiom shaft in my hybrid. Now I have the forgiveness of a hybrid, with the control of an iron shaft. Please Club Champion. Ian, Mikey, if you read these at all. Build a hybrid with an axiom shaft.
We’ll definitely give that a try.
@timothysoto3254 what sort of clubhead speed were you working with during the fitting?
Can't agree more. I went in wanting graphite, but I had no idea how good the Axioms would feel. Also tried a KBS graphite (can't remember now what they were) but it was night and day to the Axioms. Everyone seems to struggle to put a name on the feel. So solid it's almost off putting at first, but in the best way I can describe. They've been in the bag for about a month, and I have no intention of changing them ... possibly ever, orbat least until there's a significant step change in feel and performance.
@@clubchampionmedia Regarding t350 and paradym x--any big differences between them? I know they super game improvement irons, just wondering. if you have preference
Yeah @timothysoto!! I know exactly what you mean bro. I had a very similar experience trying to get MMT 125g tx fitted which was too stout for me. As soon as i switched to the 105s it was a different ball game completely . Now I can never go back to steel. As always the club champion guys bring this out through there testing. Some players dont get it and will never change from steel, but when you get it...oh my...hello world...I'm taking you all on....even Tiger
Great video. I've put the Axiom 75s in play on the T150s and could not be happier. Glad to see some of the last remaining stigmas about graphite start to recede. As someone who is closer to 60 than 50, finally nice to get the benefits of graphite with none of the perceived limitations. Of course if you need every last ounce of vibration and feel from steel, stick with the steel but the axioms are the best feeling graphite shafts I have ever played.
I commented on the last video. Ian, as a former pro that always got the highest level of Tour fitting and actually understands/manipulates it, I would seriously recommend you try the 105x (I actually put them in my 620mb’s 🤯 ). Especially when you have everything at your fingertips. I understand you and everyone else have different swing/feel/preferences/etc.. But my tournament speed is similar or faster than yours and I load it harder. I was shocked at how well the 105x did, especially coming from 6.5 Rifle. But you need to try them on the course, not just a monitor and not just 20, 50+ shots.. Being away from the game and involved in a lot of other fields helped me have a ‘outside the box’ mentality and control my preconceived notions where I hate to judge but I know fitters and it is hard for them to control that. This Axiom shaft has changed that notion of me thinking I need to stick around 125 to now using 105. Just throwing it out there and might make for more content. Cheers
Do you have the 105x in all of the irons?
@@Mariushovland91 No. Gap - 4 iron in Axiom. I have so many years with my Lob & Sand wedge with 6.0 Rifle. I don’t want to change that as they do what I want.
@@Nathaniel.Spencer_Golf Playing the TM P7MC 1 Degree weak with Nippon 120X.
Do they compare?
@@Mariushovland91 I’m not sure what you’re asking. You’ll have to elaborate on what you’re trying to compare. These Axioms have a little higher launch than the Rifle (which is known to have one of if not the lowest launch angles) Keep in mind I play in a fair amount of windy conditions (averaging around 12-18mph) so I need control of my launch. To keep it simple Axioms are roughly between a Rifle launch and let’s say a Dynamic Gold/typical graphite shaft (and I saw an increase in distance). But I can play with that launch angle now in the way of strengthening the loft of my irons to lower that launch angle and still create enough spin for very firm greens. But I’m creating for my specific needs. I don’t know yours, how you play, conditions you play, yadda yadda.. A lot of this is extreme overkill for the average golfer and being honest is not going to help the amateur very much. Lastly I’ve never played Nippon but I know they are very good if that shaft fits the person.
I'm right there with Ian in ball speed and was fitted to the Axiom 125X 5-PW as well! Got the 105X in my 4 iron to get it closer to my 19* UW. This video just helped me be more confident in my first graphite shafted set on it's way to me.
Ian, I’ve built a several sets of these and seen the results. There is no issue with the way you swing. The unique build profile is awesome. Without looking at the video I’m confident its a winner
Completely agree with your love of the P760s still playing mine and love them
I play the Axion 75s in a set of Miura’s 801 no issues flighting shots. The feel is amazing !
Ian fit me for the 760s 5 years ago and I'll never give them up... unless taylormade comes out with a new version! Thanks boys!
I would love to see the effects of the axiom in the lighter options but stiff or x flex compared to a heavier steel shaft like the project x lz
Modus 120's are such good shafts. If you swing hard they're great, if you wanna hit soft shots they're great...very versatile.
Yep. So I wonder if it's even worth the switch especially with Axiom's high price range.
@@Unplugged704up to the golfer and their budget
They're awesome for sure. Have them in my ZX7's and it's definitely a winning combo for me.
Wish Ian would try the Modus 125 it is a great combo of weight and feel.
Ball striking clinic by Ian today. Seemed like every shot was around 1.35 efficiency. He could probably play with broomstick and still stripe it. Another great video!
I've been playing the Fuji 115x in my irons for almost two years. They feel better, they are more consistent for me. My handicap has never been lower since switching. I currently play to a 0.8.
I have axiom 105. Great shafts
I hit a set of t100s with the modus 120 on the weekend and fell in love with the shaft. I currently play p790s with the lz 6.0 but find it to be a little heavier thank i like. I hit them well but do find it to be a bit too much work as the round goes on. Do you find the modus works well with the p790s?
I currently play modus 3 120x and I've been wondering if I would benefit from the same shaft change. I used to have an issue with having a very low launch angle, made some swing changes, now I hit moon balls that hit the green like a meteor from outerspace. I had to throw away my pitch repair tool and replace it with a shovel. I'm hoping axiom will lower my spin because my backspin on any iron stops the rotation of the earth.
I am asking the same question. Modus 105-S in the last two sets of irons and the NS1050 since 2008. Have an Axiom 105S in my possession waiting for a one off build or probably better off just going and get a fitting.
It looked like the axiom took some curve out of the ball flight compared to modus. Would you say it’s because of the axiom/velocore, or just going to a heavier 125 gram shaft?
What about the reduced impact of vibration for your back and wrist because of the graphite?
I have LA Golf Mid shafts in my irons built by Club Champion and I have no issues knocking the ball down. In fact they are so stable I think it makes it easier to do it. Never going back to steel!
Do they feel softer then steel?
@Ian @clubchampion
- is this Modus 120x or 120s?
Danggg this is gonna be a good video ive been so interested in the axiom lineup. The epons are playing very nicely by the way absolute butter
Ian sure does love those P760’s
Interesting the data is almost the same. Besides feel, would it even be worth the switch especially the Axiom pricing is much higher?
What would make you the switch from my project x to the axiom. I am going to test them but is the biggest number am I looking for if I make switch
Suggestion for your consideration: Two sets. Run field testing in parallel over time throughout the off season w/ Trips to Miami, Texas, & SoCal.
I was wondering why they don’t fly south to film content with a variety of TH-cam golfers during the winter months. Not like a lot of gear comes out during the winter.
Agree with @chriswinn3612 …e.g. golf with the gear head Bryson, Ian could possibly push the envelope
Yeah...I think the 105s Axiom is the go to shaft for me.....expensive but oh so worth it. How do they adjust swingweight as with steel shafts. Do they still balance the tungsten weights and moi by inserting a tungsten weight pellet inside the bottom of the shaft?
so curious about your thoughts on the significant toe down dynamic lie angle. I see the same on my quad and I struggle to fix this with my swing. It seems that so many people are heavy toe down based on quad measurements. And I believe they are accurate...I've seen plenty of "toe deep" divots out of my when playing.
I remember Ian used to have a iron set with MMT 125TX, what's better about the axioms compared to those?
Idk but I love my MMT 125tx
Essentially buying a new set of irons to gain such a small difference if any in the long run is crazy. Price to performance ratio has got to be a little on the higher side. $1300 installed after paying $1300 for clubs is a really interesting choice but maybe upcharge won't be that bad once oem's start offering them 🙄
Gosh Ian’s swing looks so good right now😭
What do you think of the Jupiter golf shaft
In the time it took me to type this Ian changed his bag over/under 5 times?😂
🤣🤣
I do have a set of p760’s are they .370 parallel?
Any reason Ian you didn't try 105x to compare?
Would you use the axiom in your wedges aswell as your irons
How about doing an indoor new accra iron shaft review I didn't think the one you guys did outdoors was the best then the other one where you compared 4 or 5 different shafts didn't really do much for me to understand how the accra shafts really felt or preformed
How do the Axiom’s feel on miss hits? I have bad joint pain looking to go the graphite route. Someone told me graphite is friendlier on the body. What r your thoughts?
Graphite shafts often feel better for those who have joint sensitivity! Another way to minimize joint pain could be to try thicker and/or softer grips.
On your first few hits with 9i you was 3 degs toe down at impact would you not make it more upright to level that out ??
ian generally likes to have it come in a touch toe down to counteract his tendency to overdraw on occasion.
One of the bonuses for Ian is that he can literally "Try Everything" available. If he can find a better recipe for Results, Looks & Feel, by all means switch. Play comfortable. I don't want to have to fight the tendencies of a club.
As someone who really prefers feel, I can say to both Ian and Mikey’s points Modus 120 feels so soft and great. Honestly, best feeling shafts.
Axiom, definitely, feels stable. Like, everything feels like where it’s supposed to be. No fancy loading/unloading or softer feel. Just solid.
The only issue I have is that the T150 is also a solid feel vs buttery feel. Add T150 + Axiom you lose a lot of feedback. Though arguably feeling more solid on every shot is better than the “feels” of a perfectly struck shot.
Be curious to see if Ian goes back. You lose a lot of feel when shifting away from Modus 120 - and I think Ian would like that back in his game.
Do you recommend getting the Axiom's pured? I just got fitted for 105x on T150s and can't decide to pure them or not.
We recommend you get every club PURE'd. But don't just take our word for it. Plugged In Golf did a study testing PURE'd clubs versus clubs that weren't and they found measurable gains of distance, accuracy, and feel. You can copy this link into your browser and read for yourself: pluggedingolf.com/does-pureing-a-shaft-improve-performance-golf-myths-unplugged/
I got the axioms in 75 gram reg flex
Put them in the new PXG gen 6 P irons
Never have i hit a 6 iron this well last weekend i hit 3 amazing 6 irons 160 yards onto the greens with only 5 or 6 yards of run out
My playing partners were cheering me on 😂
As ian says they just square up
Expensive additions to the bag but well worth it
I got fit with 105 Axiom Stiff flex in some Titliest T100's, coming from KBS 125 S $-Tapers in Mizuno MP20 MMC's, I got fitted, and while simulator looked good, My Ballflight just rocketed and the ball falls out of the sky. which is a huge bummer but I am working with Club Champion (as I purchased through them) to figure out what we can do to swap them out. not sure if its a flex or weight issues but I went from a 160-170 8 iron to 145-155 7iron in my Axiom/t100 setup. Everything is short, and falls out of the sky straight down.
Are you getting the Axiom's pured or not? I just got fitted for 105x on T150s and I can't decide to pure them
@@MrDlatto24 i did get mine pured, spending Ll the money might as well. And just for an update i went back and hit on the trackman again, we Re going d6 swing weight which im hoping yeolds better resultz
I got fit into the axiom 105s and best decision I’ve made. Had them about 3/4 weeks and have already dropped a shot on the hcp. Playing them in zx7 mkii irons. You won’t regret it.
Been thinking about making the switch as well... would you recommend switching the wedge shafts too?
@@eeleaj3934 I also changed the wedge shafts. Went up a stiffness to x flex for them. Feel soo good. Can flight them easily. Would 100% recommend axiom to anyone.
bad thing is they cost 750 bucks for shafts and i already spent 1300 in T100 irons lol prices are getting crazy
You guys are killing me with these. Need to get these in so I can get in… fit… and ordered
Heard on the club junkie pod him referring to mmt 125tx as closer to x100 and axiom 125tx closer to project x. Would y’all agree? Was fit 2 years ago into project x but switched to mmt in the last year before axiom was released. Got me second guessing now😂
As a Ventus player, I'm definitely intrigued by Axiom. But I'm having a hard time coming up with a rationale for paying 2-3 times more for a shaft that performs comparably to Modus 120 (the shaft I'm planning on putting in my T100/T150 combo).
Maybe I'll try an Axiom 105 in my T150 4i and see how that works.
Welcome to the Axiom 125X party, Ian! Had them built up in my favorite heads, P7MC, and they unleashed a completely new gear of performance in that setup. Can’t say enough good things about Axiom - I’m a nobody at this table but couldn’t be happier with the product.
What flex was Ian using in the Modus and Axiom?
i think they will be in his bag over the winter months
Mikey needs to go to a 5 hybrid like I had to! So much better!
Guys what flex in both shafts were you testing?
Axiom 115-120g please
Absolutely love it! ALL FEEL! Peak Design had been reached!
No TXG logo’s or anything anymore on the channel?
Axiom or P760!?
Please use an amateur senior low/mid handicap to test the shafts
You don’t need to see the numbers, just look at the video replay of your swing. With the Modus it all looks a bit late in the release. Much better with the Axiom. Timing looks way better.
Anyone who's a shaft nerd, I had $-taper 100 stiff in a set of forged Wilsons and loved them but floated a little high. Got the Cobra MiM tour irons with the $-taper 120 stiff and they feel SO different. They are unplayable for me 💔
~20 grams is a huge jump. Would’ve tried to strengthen the Wilsons a degree or 2 instead.
20 grams is a large change when things sounded nearly perfect with your previous shaft. The floaty golf ball sounds like it could just be a little too much spin. To lower that spin you could strengthen the lofts, or play a lower spinning golf ball!
I'm sure the Axiom shafts are great, but at $115 US per shaft, that makes for an extremely expensive upgrade.
Standard deviations across the board are tighter with the axiom, if you don't change there is something wrong with you Ian 😂
Is standard length with axiom still 1 inch longer than with steel? I’m wondering because swing weight shouldn’t be a problem with axiom as it used to be with lighter graphite shafts.
Put the Axiom in your 150s
Why is it they dont do a stiff shaft in this model
I don't care what Ian wants
Graphite before 50😂
In marbella having it team Europe style 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
Frank lampard for the rangers job...... ❤ good times
Yes I'm pissed😂
Axiom is in your future. It is also in my future..
Why not just play p760?
Go ahead, put em in the bag 🤣😂😆
i just put 125x in my callaway apex 24 cb/mb combo set. and i 105x in my paradym super hybrid..... its almost like cheating
Did you get the Axiom's pured or not? I just got fitted for 105x on T150s and can't decide to pure them or not
It’s funny that we say “oh this shaft is heavy” when comparing a 115 to 125 shaft the difference is literally a nickel..
Am I the only one that stopped the video when I saw the first swing with the Axiom shafts was with a different club head brand and model? 15:47 Why didn’t the Axioms get tested with Titleist 150 heads?? I’ll admit I haven’t quite made it to the absolute end of the video but please explain - why not apples to apples comparison? The start of the analysis at the end Ian was talking about launch differences and claimed that the Taylor made was a “material” difference which was likely the cause of the difference. Why not just use the same exact Titleist head and see for sure? So unlike your typical analysis process.
Because that would involve building another set of T150’s Scott. I wish we had unlimited resources but we don’t so i prioritized testing 9ir, 7ir and 5ir.
@@clubchampionmedia Which part isn't in the fitting matrix, the T150's or the Axioms?
If I owned a golf shop I may play something different every round lol
Axioms are out of affordability for most. Try Mitsubishi MMTs. They are excellent
We’ve done many videos with them. They are great.
Save your elbows and go with the Axiom!
This is so real ….. if you have any tendonitis at all … graphite is an instant relief.
I can’t speak to Axiom, but Steelfiber is an amazing product. Consistent. Vibration relief. Indestructible.
Switching to graphite is almost always a good choice. I wish the silly stigma about it would die already.
Get a fast player to compare Axiom to X100 ❤
every club and shot had so much lower Standard Deviation with the Axiom, stiffer, less variance.
For me the modus sounded better
Just put the 760 in lord they are good
It’s interesting because these shafts are so different but results so similar debunking a whole lot of myth.
You have mid weight vs heavy weight. Soft flex vs tour x flex. Graphite vs steel. Pretty darn close to opposite ends of the spectrum yet results identical.
I missed the flex difference. What are the flex ratings of the Modus and the Axiom he used?
What a stripe show.
Those shirts...sucking the life out...
Keep fighting!
Again No testing with the AutoFlex Iron Shaft. If you going to spend $$$ why not try AutoFlex to see if it will be the best shaft for your Game and go to next Level. Yes beating a Dead Horse. I have seen AutoFlex for $150 per Shaft..
guys play music. I love my guy Ian but listening to him breath while he hits shots is sloppy
they look cool but nowhere near any difference to justify the cost difference.. new and cool is cool though
I’m hitting 120 s diamana true issue mid really looking to change to axiaon but they don’t have a 120 S only 125(130)x🥲
