I use my belt sander for tip prep on a 370 to 370 and also 335 to 335. Also, use shafting beads. Has always worked great. I see your point though. Smaller increments to make it fit.

I went to my local PGA Superstore recently and they had those shafts in a set of Muira irons. High Quality! I think they were $2200
So, how does one take a 105 s shaft and make it a 105 r ? Specifically, the P, 9, 8 irons.

Hello, Adam. I am new to club assembly. This is a superb video - just what I needed to see. My key question is 'do I need to trim the tip as shown to fit the .377 shaft to .355 T200 & T350 (latest Titleist irons)?' Sanding part I get it, to make the shaft tip smaller to fit .355 hosel. I also bought Axiom 75 Regular flex for long, mid, and short irons. Thanks for your thoughts in advance.
Yes, you need to tip trim them following the Fujikura recommendations for each particular iron. Then you can sand them down to .355

Can you clarify this for me?
The shafts are all essentially the same (long, mid, short) but they are just tipped differently for the iron you want to put them in?
Or are the long, mid and short iron shafts different from each other?

They have 3 shafts with slightly different profiles. The long irons will launch higher, the short irons will launch lower by comparison. All three lengths have the same weight so that allows the finished set to be not quite a constant weight set, but close.
The Miura heads are usually quite heavy and the PW is higher.
So, what does the Axiom shaft do to swing weight?
The 105 I've used for a few builds come out very neutral on SW at standard length.
Anyway to show atleast one full club build and swing weighted. I'm curious how they swing weight out given they are miura heads and heavier than most. I play miura tc-201's and would love to try these myself. Great videos! Keep up the great work 👊
Set came out at D2-D3-D4. 4 and 5 were D2, all the rest were D3 and wedge was D4. That included some 4g tip weights and were built to slightly over my "standard" for length. 50g Lamkin grips used.
I play the TC 201s also.

@@EFGMC are you able to share what type of tip weights you use for this kind of graphite shaft. I currently play steelfiber 110cw in my miura's and know there is not a lot of room to insert tip weights unfortunately. Thanks again for the reply.
@@Gjbjr777 I use standard lead graphite tip weights up to 6g. That's as much as I will ever use in a graphite shaft.
These shafts are more tip weighted vs the Steelfiber fyi so you would not need as much weight to get them to the same SW value.
Do you ever bore out the head versus sand down the tip?
You could with steel shafts, with graphite this is preferred method. Not to mention recommended my manufacturer.
How do you handle the trimming for a set gap wedge? Do I keep going with .5 inch increments?
I drop to 1/4 inch for all wedges starting at the 9 to PW change.
What are they recommending for folks that play + length? Trimming the "long" profile shaft for 5 iron and "mid" profile shaft for the 8? Or are they sent a different length from Fujikura itself?
How long are you playing them?
@@EFGMC Just a half inch long but thinking through it I think you said to tip trim then butt trim to length so imagining that it's just done there

Have a 54* 12=bounce Vokey D grind. If it was bent to 53* or even 52*, how does it affect the bounce and grind?
Bounce moves with loft, so 2 degrees lower loft = 2 degrees less bounce. Grind will have less influence because it now sits higher.
Bend a wedge to higher loft increases bouce.
With Axioms 105 S on irons, what would you use on LW and SW?
Might go with a 105 or 115 Nippon Modus wedge shaft depending if you want to keep the weight consistent or go up a bit.
Good morning Adam. One more question from a newbie. do you typically align shaft spine toward a target ( 9 - 3 o'clock line) or up/down (12 - 6 o'clock line) for this shaft? I found a white dot and redline from the sticker on each shaft - assume that is a spine. Your thoughts are tremendously appreciated.
You can align it if you think it will give you more confidence but I've yet to see any proof that spine alignment does anything beneficial.

i just bought one shaft to test in an iron 7 and a bit confused now where you cut the shaft. on that sheet from fujikura they said cutting at the butt and you were cutting the tip. why?
Because the 7 iron shaft in the axiom is the shortest of the MIDDLE irons and would be tip trimmed 1” and then cut from the butt end to desired playing length.
Also, the Axiom shafts are divided into 3 groups: long irons (2,3,4) middle(5,6,7) and short(8,9,PW). And all 3 groups are tip trimmed in the same matter. Long irons 0,1/2:,1” and the same for the rest of the shaftd
I bought these for my T200's ive called several golf repair shops around here that all said they were not comfortbale trimming the shafts for my irons. Golf Galaxy and multiple mom and pop stores. I didnt think it would be so difficult to find. Eager to play them before season is over here in Michigan.

What swing weight would you get with standard lenght and no tip weight?
Need much more info. Which shaft weight, what are the head weights, what grip?

@@rubensnaves Axiom 105 is slightly more tip heavy than Modus 105 so should yield similar SW values.

Yes, you could also go that route.
What is the benefit of this method vs reaming the hosel??
This is much better in my opinion. Does not change the hosel permanently and looses very very little weight vs reaming.

@@pchmbrs7 Just a medium sanding belt and a light touch. Sand a little, check the fit and repeat.
Does the shafts need to be splined?
No, no, and never!
Why is that? I just got these installed and have them splined.
It says cut the butt to the desired length!
What about ferrules?
Either .370 or sanded out .355 will work. If using .355 I like to warm them up a little before install so they have some give to them.
Could use a caliper to get a more accurate diameter.
You can but you will need to measure every head as there may be slight differences from hosel to hosel.
Would it not be more accurate to taper the shaft using a lathe? Using your hand is far from precise.
Maybe for a beginner that would be an option. Not worried about someone versed in shaft work.
Big miss by Fujikura. All premium irons have 0.355 taper hosels.

Better off boring the heads. Why weaken good graphite?
Shaft section that has been tapered sits fully inside the hosel incased in epoxy. It won't fail.

@@EFGMC I want to put axiom with Ping I 525. Did you think tour epoxy plus is good enough for axiom work ? I hear lots of people use 3M DP 8410 NS .
@@majestik1717 There are any number of epoxies that will all work equally well. It's almost never an issue with the epoxy itself when you get a bad bond. It's all about proper measuring, mixing, and prep work.
Manufacturers literally have what is basically an old school pencil sharpener to taper parrallel shafts. Calm down Karens. lmao
There is no way I would weaken a graphite shaft this way to make it fit in a hosel. This is not what I expected to see on this video.
But that's literally how you do it per manufacturer's recommendations.
Only issue would be if u swung your 2 iron 120+ mph and it got stuck in the astro turf. If not they will never snap.
what is your method? are you a club builder? have you worked with graphite iron shafts? how much did he "weaken" the shaft?
Yup this is exactly how you taper an and .370 I angle the shaft a little more when sanding the taper but that just helps me personally get the taper
