I upgraded from my old Shure SRH-440's and haven't looked back. Now I did have a pair that broke at the one of the connectors. Rode did replace them for me though and I am loving them.
I bought them the day they came out and haven't regretted it --- a great option for someone that wants good build quality but without the hifi features of $$$ products (and whose head doesn't fit the DT-XXX lineup)
Just bought the Rode NTH 100 today. They are dearer than a Sharpe that I already have and cheaper than a Panasonic. A very quick 'test drive' today tells me that they are just as good as the Panasonic. Mind you this is from a guy who has become partially deaf from 40 years of headphone wearing with volume just about shaking hands with feedback. However you are so right about the cable. The Panasonic has a straight and a coiled cabled. Love your videos...
Great review. I bought the one with the microphone and love it. I agree about the cable. If Rode sold a half length one, I'd buy it. Didn't notice the cable rub noise until you mentioned it, now it bothers me. lol
I have a pair of beyerdynamic dt 770 that I love but they are 250 Ohm, I purchased them when I had a better headphone Amp I now have a Rodecaster Pro and the Headphone Amp Struggles. I will be getting a pair Thanks for you Video and info T
I just today replaced my Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's which recently died with the Rode NTH-100. The cable rub was the first thing I noticed when I put them on. I didn't expect this at all so was surprised such a thing existed. First impression is they have a flat or more neutral sound than my sadly dead HD 280 Pro's - I also feel somewhat removed from the sound if that makes any sense. As though there is a measurable distance between myself and the audio. Hopefully this sensation goes away after using them a for a few hours. They do look really nice though.
I am actually planning on getting a pair of these! The cable noise I don't think will be very noticeable for me since i stay pretty still, and live in a college dorm so I can't really wheel around anyway
I'm going to these from the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro, I really hate the pleather on these and I've had to replace the earcups every year for the past 4-5 years.
My issue is build quality. My son broke a pair of these on both sides and now I have to send them back to rode for a replacement. I bought a pair and so far so good on them holding up so far.
Thanks for the review :) I hope you are well Well, my shure srh 840 recently broke, after 12 years of use, and yes, they had big creaking issues as well as bleeding, so they were a pain when recording vocals (speech and singing). I like to use my headphones as well for mixing, when not with my big monitors, and so, now that I have to buy new ones, I am between the sennheiser hd 300 pro and these rode ones. Which one would you recommend best?
Would you go with these or AKG K371 for neutral monitoring during recording of vocals (spoken word & sung) and recording of indoor/outdoor sound samples & ambient? field recordings?
I love mine, i paired them up with a roomy DAC and a tight amp. They also sound great with my portable chifi mobile DAC, the volume goes more than high enough.
So I'm used to just getting $50 pairs of headphones to get by... usually to use for gaming... nothing heavy. That said I'm getting serious now. Just got the NT1 5th Gen as an ipgrade to my $20 tackstar shotgun mic. I RREEEAAALLLYYY want to get the NTH100 for long haul editing but as you say.... would you say it's a make or brake issue for these headphones. I'm so close to getting them
So I'm considering these or similar headphones like the 770 PRO. My use is monitoring voice only by connecting them to the Rode Promic USB directly so I would have to go for the lower OHM (32 or 80?) of the 770 PRO's, or the NHT100's. What would be your recommendation?
Very cool video and cool headphones. Not sure if you have reviewed the Austrian Audio gaming headset and Headphones in your channel before but worth having a look.
These seem nice but I am sticking to my Vic Firth SIH2. Much cheaper and the sound is great. Plus the isolation is great as they are made for drummers.
I'm tempted to go for the DT990s for editing my vo and audio book stuff. Those Rodes are listening/tracking I guess, and 32 ohms means they'll work with an mp3 player etc. I use Audio Technica M40s for recording, coiled cable, and wld probably go for M50x next or the closed Bayerdynamic DT770. These are all roughly 60 Canadian more than the Rodes. But interesting to see if you stick with them. Still use my trusty old Senheiser HD 414s for late night listening and guitar practice. 🎸
How do you feel about open Sennheiser headphones like the HD650s or HD600s or whatever? I like the fit, but maybe not for everyone? I’m that guy using DT770s for tracking then HD650s for mixing.
I returned mine also. Version 1 of a product. I have lost allot of respect for RODE over this release. Hyped up marketing. Claims that they are the best. Marketing budget for youtube to push that narrative. Like all their products its heavily branded to give you this clout the they have not earned IMO. They make some decent enough sounding budget microphones.
These headphones didn't do it for me. I didn't appreciate the sound quality of these cans. To me it sounds like I am listening through a blanket at times otherwise I could live with these cans build quality wise. I believe the issue was the pading in the ear cups that I could clearly hear and I believe this was done because Rode took the low road tuning these cans and that is a shame because otherwise I kinda liked the Rodes NTH 100s Bottom line for me was I didn't like the pillow sound between my ears and the cans. I returned them to the retailer for a refund.
Well, these cans are genius in many, many ways in terms of design, durability, comfort, etc, buuuut there's a big but: even though their sound signature is neutral-ish in a good way and they reproduce vocals quite well, they seem to fail at representing some frequencies adequately, especially upper mids and highs. They're lacking crisp and clear sound reproduction, giving you the impression that you're sitting in the room with the walls made of cardboard. So their are probably the most unengaging headphones I've ever heard l. Nth-100 costs $150 because they're like a weird mix of $250 cans in terms of build and $50 cans in terms of sound.
Please do a video on headphones hair. Well maybe collaborate with another content creator on that one. But how they grab onto hair when you move them matters. To many of us.
❗️ WARNING ❗️ Don’t buy these headphones 🎧 They break VERY EASY on the opposite side of the locking knob. It’s just thin plastic holding the cup to the headband and it snaps. This is not an isolated one off. It has happen to others.
Alright I'm watching out of respect and loyalty. But I sort of wish that I was watching this in 4K. One day we'll look at headphones and wonder how we ever reviewed them in HD.
I bought them and have no complaints. They are great.

I can appreciate the cooling gel, I'm from Puerto Rico. I've had them for a week and I have no complaints.
5:20 thank you , u are the only honest reviewer i found so far. ppl avoid talking about that cable noise problem like they were paid to review it.

Sorry to hear about that
Thanks for the review :)

It's not an upgrade, more a complimentary pair of closed back monitors. I've had a pair of Grado SR 80 E
Like any other personal accessory I'm interested in the clamping capabilities.
I am a video editor, I am upgrading from Pioneer HDJ-X5. What do you think? Good choice?

i got the nth-100m with the mic and i love them

Ohhh...I need to get more gear from them anyways
He's right about the cable!
I did get two headphones 🎧. I love those headphones so much I head to get one for a friend.

Give me time

@@DarkCornerStudios are you still using these? Debating between these and 840s for monitoring/editing.
i am sure rode will come out with a cable replacement soon
Epidemic sound during Covid?
Like accessories for any other activity my focus is drawn to the cup.
These seem like a great choice for tracking headphones. I would like to compare them to my Sonys or my DT770s
They will surely weight more than both of those...
Though...my wife likes my sexy neck muscles
@@DarkCornerStudios I’m suprised they weigh more than Beyerdynamic, there’s a good amount of metal in those. I’m getting a pair. There I’m commited
@@danasdas6683 I like your style...let me know what you think!
What if headphones came with cables that were like those dog leashes that can go out then be pulled back in? That would be awesome.
I would totally go for that
@@DarkCornerStudios With or without the little poop bag tied on?
@@seanwebb605 it would make it handy for walking the dogs and listening to something
@@DarkCornerStudios A dog. Why didn't I think of that? I was just thinking long sessions in the studio.
I belive you have the older Shure SRH840. Have you tried the newer SRH840-a? I wonder how the sound compares to the NTH100.
I do not...but now I want to try them
@@DarkCornerStudios I bought the newer Shures (before the Rode teasers) and I love them. My old ATH-M40x doesn’t come close.
The cord rubbing sound on these is brutal. Returned mine.
I am assuming with feedback like this...it will be fixed rather quickly

How do they compare to the DT 700 ?
I like these a lot...but the dt770 would be a bit better for frequency specific work

@@TheNewArtSchool its hard to call person to person.
I prefer the Rode for long use
@@DarkCornerStudios Thank you! also, They are 32 ohms. How do they differ to the 80 or 250 ohm DT770? (Original version, not the new "pro" versions)
@@TheNewArtSchool not as detailed.
That is the one drawback.
That said as long as you aren't doing frequency specific mixing...you won't notice it
I just got a pair. Compared to the Sennheiser HD 380 Pro, they sound very bassy and muddy. Not impressed.

I just bought a pair of Sony 7506s a couple of months ago… really like them but I’m still watching headphone reviews 😂
Oh wow they have braile on them for blind people, that is really cool! you dont see that in any other headphone really, least i have never seen it.
