Both of them are different or may I say they complement each other for different use cases. Rode prolly better for vocal work while Bayer for instruments etc.
Hi Josh. I think the good positioning comes mainly from the matched drivers. The differences between different pairs i guess comes also from the process of matching the drivers. Having a bunch of drivers with some variance between them, they probably pair the ones that sound very similar between them, resulting in pairs with the same variance, that sound different to other pairs. It's probably a choice they had to make to keep the price down

Apparently these Rode's have a big chunk of felt in front of the driver like a DT880, so it might be something they can hopefully tune and update easily.
I will repurchase in future when reliable fixes to these issues have been found. As is they are not usable as anything other than decent casual listening.
Can you please review the Sony MDR100AAP? I feel like that’s such an underrated option for a headphone you can get for $100. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it
Surprised these are 40mm drivers and not at least 50, should be 100. They need to make these again but 100mm planar magnetic drivers, closed back, and maybe wireless too
This is what makes me want to make a dual driver headphone with like a 70mm driver for 2kHz and under and like a 15mm hard dome tweeter for the rest. No distortion from overexcursion. No distortion from breakup. As to how should anyone implement this on a headphone? That's the hard part. Isn't it?
For home listening, several reviews indicate substantial low frequency distortion and some compression which could tend to further "darken" timbre at higher levels for an already bass heavy or treble weak signature. (?) (Its distortion graphs don't look as poor as Sony's MDR7506) The Rode certainly looks well made tho the single point yoke looks as it could be weaker than two support points. (?)

I listened to the NTH-100 a few days ago and was really disappointed. I expected a headphone with a fairly flat frequency response but the treble was downright cut off and the bass was almost as bloated as the original Beats. They look cool and are very comfortable though. But I did not want to buy them mainly because of the severe lack of treble. While I was at the store I compared the Rode to the Neumann, which I preferred, but in the end I went home with the Ollo Audio S4R. The latter has a sound that I expected the Rode would have. The downside is that it's way more expensive and they need a headphone amp (even though they are only 32 Ohm, you lose sound quality with a USB powered interface).
Yeah because the Rode headphones are cheap. People saying they sound otherwise have just been burned by too many audio companies in the past selling them junk. But having owned more expensive cans. These sound their price and no more.
The nth-100 I had was on the dark side on the sound signature. A few months back the adjustment mechanism completely disintegrated. It was such a hassle dealing with Rode on the warranty a got frustrated and threw the damned things away. Buyer beware….it is a known flaw with the design that has not been addressed by Rode the manufacturer. Shame on Rode..!
Those two models look basically identical outside of some chrome debossing and the material on the headband, so it doesn't really matter which he was holding.
It’s funny … I’m seeing this new pattern… of reviewers “ qualifying “ that maybe just the pair send to me doesn’t have good treble. I mean isn’t the QC there or not?….. Are reviewers just appeasing the companies ….in return for gear being “sent”?

Also with a little eq to bring up the mids, it sounded really good to me! It could be that they didn't fit you properly, because the cups are pretty big and might have left a gap...
@@armaaniiboi4504 sound and feel cheap. I used to follow Zeo til I realized he didn't know what he's talking about. He is an awesome shill but can't hear for beans. If you like the sound you're getting, don't let me talk you out of it because what you hear is all that matters
What would you recommend as a budget close back? Something around the £150 Mark. I got the HD560s and love them although the siblance is a bit annoying at times.
I'm a big fan of Rode as a company, they have outstanding customer service and build robust gear for an affordable price in Australia (like Beyer in Germany while others have switched to cheap labour, cheap plastic construction).
It seems they've missed the mark here in regard to sound, but given this is their first headphone I'm excited to see what they create in the future.
I'm still awaiting a better sounding DT770 (haven't tried DT700 pro yet).

You should check out Galdive. Her voice is similar to the intro song and shes one of my favorite artists right now
Hi have you considered trying out the new Sivga its also in the 150$ price range that has been appearing around audiophile channels.
I was thinking about these for a good office headphone - closed, single 3.5 in so you can swap in a mic cable - but not sure if the lock in mechanism messes that up.
Not every cable will work with it because of the locking mechanism.
another headphones tier list plzzzz
Hi man 🙌 I'm beginner and looking for everyday use headphone, which gonna be absolute steal for it's price in 2022. Budget is 500$ max. Can you please help me to recommend any? Please answer🙏
Thank you for the review! The problem with Rode this time is that they sent review units to podcasters/creators to review. This causes rubbish reviews after rubbish reviews to be published on YT. Thanks for rectifying this. Thanks Josh!
So true
@@mattriarchal 15mins talking about snaplock and cooling gel, and 10 secs on sound "oh they sound good".
Why are you copy/pasteing this to every review?? Wierd
@@BrZi38501 Thank you for noticing my comment. It is my rights to voice my opinion whether or not I appreciate a reviewer's effort. If you think that's weird you have your rights to form your opinion too.
Yeah its like an infomercial railing off specs. Or they send it to people with affiliate links who know that based on the price its an easy sell for people. Cough " Z Reviews ".
Isn't it?
How about an Audiogram. (I agree it is a little darker, but not veiled)
How does it compare to Sundara? I want to buy a THX Onyx or Cobalt for Sundara.....or this heaphones for on the go
What's your recommendation for the best open-back headphones for mixing? (professional work) is it still the dt 1990?
I found them great for vocal editing on the go.
No shit
Yes because they are very forgiving. Not what you need IMO.
Josh what headphone stand are you using?
Are there measurements available yet?
How will it be for gaming? Especially for footsteps
tried these as well and can agree that the treble is super dark, pretty unpleasant. Going back to my 598Cs
That "hi-Rez" sticker on the laptop 🤣
LoL, yeah, Sarcasm is on point!
Oh man.....if there's that much difference between units, this thing would be a super risky choice for professional work.
Yup. Not taking that risk. Returning mine.
Josh, do you have a recommendation for a closed back version of the sennheiser hd 600? I have the 1997 version of the sennheiser hd 600. I'm looking for a closed back version of the 1997 sennheiser hd 600 that I have with the same sound signature.
Damn what mic you using?
The pair that I have has very good treble extension. Go figure.
dt 900 pro x when?
The DT 770 pro 80 ohm are better in my opinion. They are more comfortable and the sound stage is better.
Sir, what do you think of STATUS AUDIO CB-1.........at just $55
yeah the treble is muted on my unit too. now it makes me curious what it supposed to sound like
Its supposed to sound like a cheap driver, over dampened with foam in a plastic shell. But hey.. cooling gel right.. ;). I returned mine
I listen to nothing but metal from slayer, machine head, fit for an autopsy, trivium etc etc. what do you recommend for metal at $150 or less. Open and or closed and Bluetooth. Thanks
You should try Infest the Rat's Nest album by King Gizzard
The intro music is awesome.
But i am sure you should switch it off once you start recording your speech.
It is annoying to hear something behind your voice.
> But this is how my video is professsionaaal.
No, it is not. It is annoying.
WONDER WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU GOT THE SOARE CABLE AND USED THEM AS DUAL ENTry...?
Which headphones do you recognize for monitoring in post production?
I suppose, dt 770 pro, as they show you brutally the defects
Love your channel!!! I have a question: how long does a headphone last?
They can last a lifetime. there's no battery
long as you don't throw them around like you see in videos.. all you really need to replace usually is the ear cushion will start to flake.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 *HiFiMAN has left the chatroom*
I have a pair of Denons that are to look at them ... falling appart... but to listen to them. Oh yeah they are still great.
The quality of the video!!
Ive heard so many conflicting views about the sound. Ive ordered some mainly based on Zeos's reviews, for music enjoyment and gaming, slightly worried ill need to send them back.
I got them, and they have to be the most frustrating headphones ive ever listened to. Amazing build quality and comfort, and i like how they look, but the sound is muffled and muddy. Either my ear are broken, i got a defective unit or theres a lot of paid reviews out there.
@@perseus431 I also stumbled on Mr Z and his all out love fest for these. I was also suckered in but did not use his affiliate link. Lets face it. He's a guy that has a wall full of gold that he never touches. He has been able to get that wall of gold by affiliate links. How he could be sitting at his desk with a pair of Sony cans when he has some of the most reference planar headphones on the planet I dont know. Either way I am starting to doubt his credibility and or that he has screwed his ears up from years of blasting music into them. I found the Rode headphones too veiled to use for what I was looking for... then it just makes them for enjoyment. Well I can spend more and get something far superior for that so whats the point. The key thing to take from all reviews is... for the price. for the price. Yeah for the price they are decent.. but im not in the market for cheap pair of cans. I would like an accurate pair of cans.
@@ClaireMcHardy he overhyped everything, I only watches him for the specific detail of a headphone not for his recommendations. For that, I followed oluv gadget
holy shit! Actually widely available in Canada!
Everything was sounding great...and then you said they're not foldable...that became a deal breaker for me since I'm always on the move 😭
will you be doing a video on the meze liric
What's the song called? Also 2:06

@@olegebert9668 thank you. If he does give credit to the artist for using their song I don't know where to find it
I listened to the NTH-100 a few days ago and was really disappointed.
💯
Yeah because the Rode headphones are cheap. People saying they sound otherwise have just been burned by too many audio companies in the past selling them junk. But having owned more expensive cans. These sound their price and no more.
This headphone's review is everywhere. They spend alot on advertisement I see.
U should get into the sound quality review faster
I've only heard of "Rodee" for the past 20 years from recording professionals...were they pronouncing it wrong?
Is it just me, or is Josh holding a K371 repeatedly when calling it the K361?
(Amazon is also showing K371 pictures at the K361 link)
Those two models look basically identical outside of some chrome debossing and the material on the headband, so it doesn't really matter which he was holding.
wasnt expecting headphones from rode, but it makes sense
It’s funny …
I’m seeing this new pattern… of reviewers “ qualifying “ that maybe just the pair send to me doesn’t have good treble.
I mean isn’t the QC there or not?…..
Are reviewers just appeasing the companies ….in return for gear being “sent”?
For some reason my headset is only listening through one ear
Oh you mean "Røde." I was like "Who the hell is Rode? Never heard of their microphones."
Treble is very forward for me. It seems like it is for most people that have listened.
If you hear any sparkle i would be amazed. I was unable to detect any sybilance with these. Not a good thing when I know with more expensive headphones that I have allot of sibilance in my voice. These made the RE320 sound warm haha.
The background sound in this video was very distracting to me, outright annoying actually.
Some recurring part of that audio sounded like a cellphone was vibrating nearby.
I’ve never seen you on TH-cam before, but I’m glad I checked you out because you’re incredibly detailed and objective. Great video bro. Easy like and sub!
A good alternative would be koss pro4s
Maybe your friend only listened to the headphone for part of one day and maybe it was the equipment that he used that brought out the treble
What desktop speakers are they?
Hi-Rez Placebo lol xD ahahaha you got me rolling Josh
Joshua casually having an engine block hanging around in his house
Thoughts on IEM's VS open back headphones for gaming?
Solid first effort by Rode just wish they had made the logo a little more non descript .
It looks very nice
Yeah yeah, headphones. What's that engine block doing?
I wanna know how these do with gaming. I’d love to see how they perform for things more than just music.
They are alright. But if your not recording yourself in front of a mic get a good set of open back or semi open for gaming.
What's the music at the beginning?
Yo I've been trying to find that opening song! Does anyone know it?
It's Anxiety by Mindme
