- Hey guys in this video I show you how to replace a fuel pump in a 1988 BMW E30 this should be the same process in all late model cars 1988-1991. The Early model cars have an external pump mounted underneath the car on the drivers side rear buy the subframe. Both are very easy and straight forward to replace.

You skipped the interesting part. How do you take out the fuel pump insert? Did you break it off?
Looks like you might have a replacement Uro brand fuel pump assembly.
this video helps me to understand that my e30 only has one fuel pump instead of two, because all these while i always thought i have fuel pump inside my tank as well :DD

Fuel level sender not working?
mine was different. The top of that brass bracket had 2 hoses. Also it does not have that bottom piece. The factory pump latched to a bracket in the middle of a down tube. My replacement pump didn't have that so it just hangs off the rubber connector. My first thought was I would put a hose clamp around the whole thing but there wasn't room for it to fit through the hole. I really need to find a rubber ring or something or order a bracket like yours. Has anyone replaced a pump with the bracket I've described?

I think you might be wrong about late models having their fuel pump in the gas tank while early models have it on the bottom of the car,I have a 84 and while changing the pump on the out side I took my rear seats out and took of the cap where you’re fuel pump is and it looks the exact same. Do you think I have both?
Well it’s possible I haven’t removed one from an early model but it could just be the fuel sender and lines not sure 🤔
The early models have two pumps. A lower pressure pump in the tank and a second higher pressure external pump. That's how my '85 325e is setup.
I concur with Hanson Motorsports I have a Pre Supply pump(Fuel sender) in the fuel tank and then a 2nd external fuel pump and my car is 1984 320i 6cylinder.
My fuel pump makes so much noise and its coming from driver side rear wheel area. Its a 1989 convertible. Also the fuel gauge stuck at full.
@@HansonMotorsports well that's interesting because I have a '85 325e as well. But there's only the in-tank pump, a fuel filter in front of the driver's side rear tire, and another fuel filter in the engine bay under the brake master cylinder (where I think the charcoal canister is supposed to be).

No it doesn't it just helps seal the fuel vapours entering and help it tighten the assembly down. Hope it helps

hey man just swapped a different m20b25 into my e30, replaced timing belt, water pump, thermostat and all those wear and tear items and Im trying to get it to start now. It cranks but no start.. anything you suggest me doing?
I mean it could be a number of things but first I check for spark, then check for fuel, then check for compression. If you got all those things I don’t know what’s up but you’re probably missing one.
@@BlakesGarage Ok thanks. It has fuel, kind of weird bc out of the two hoses that connect to the pressure regulator, only one of them has fuel in it. Going to check for spark and compression.
How did you deal with starting the car without a fuel check valve? I have the same pump. When it's cold outside, below 50°, I have a hard time getting my e30 to stay running off the first start. It will start initially but die. Then I will have to crank for awhile and get it throttle just to get it to start again. Once it's running though it runs great. No power loss. Also when it's warm or ran awhile it will start everytime. I did put a check valve in the fuel line before the filter to try and help this but it still struggles in the cold.
I’ve never had an issue🤷🏼♂️ Do you have an external pump also maybe that’s giving you issues

@@BlakesGarage I've dealing with this issue for a few months now. I've been all over forums looking for a similar problem. The most common solution people keep saying is vacuum leaks. But it's not a vacuum leak. Before I replaced the pump I never had this issue. I had a hot start issue. But that was because of the main relay. If I can catch it just right after the first crank I can blip the throttle and get it running smooth. But if it dies within the first start, it's a chore getting it start again. A shit load of cranks and then it will run rough for few sec like it's flooded. Again after it starts and runs a bit it drives like a dream. It will even start normal after it's ran a bit.

How did you know it was a bad fuel pump and not just wiring issues? I’m having the same problem with mine it cranks but won’t start
I put power directly to it and it didn't make any noise.
Check your main computer relay
