    After working on shit boxes for a long time, I can really appreciate the time to explain the stuff more experienced wrenchers would know. I honestly never would have thought to explain the gear/E-brake step. It feels obvious when it really wouldn't be to a novice. Good on you!

    I did this on an e28 525i which was a little different. If you're going to do this on an e28 something that this video doesn't say to do but is necessary.
    1. You have to take the the transmission bracket off to let the trans hang a bit lower soi that you can remove the "bitch clip" it's absolutely necessary.
    2.i used the same turner bushing as he did in the video. With that the Turner bracket didn't want to fit because the rad part of the shifter linkage that goes into the bushing was hitting the bolt just above it. I had to grind down the bolt to get it to actually connect the Turner bracket fully.
    3. There's a rubber boot that you'll probably need to replace. "Shifter lever boot" it's around 25$. There's also some foam that will likely be in need of replacement but unfortunately, I couldn't find it so I made my own from some scrap foam I had lying around.
    4. Good luck. Have patience.

    After you break the bolts on the driveshaft, do you put it back In neutral? Got an early model e30 gonna have to do the dumbass swap from late model since early has the plate shifter

    Would grease work instead of lubricant?

    • @ProjectBMW
      @ProjectBMW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe white lithium grease but I wouldn't use normal grease (like wheel bearing grease). Its not good for plastic or rubber parts in general. Thanks for watching!

    Yo how do I get the vibration damper off

    • @ProjectBMW
      @ProjectBMW  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just leave it attached to the driveshaft, it stays bolted on the driveshaft. You don't need to remove it unless you'd like to replace the Guibo.

    • @themashmouth5141
      @themashmouth5141 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      On mine it’s attached to the transmission I figured it was like that on yours as well

    Bruh you gotta take off the exhaust to rebuild the shifter what a pain smh

    • @Sharpened_Spoon
      @Sharpened_Spoon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seen it done by reaching up around it all, you have to remove the selector rod first, which allows you to pull the actual gear stick (upright) from the carrier, then you can remove the carrier. Reverse the steps to essentially build it in situ; it's advised to replace the selector joint too (connecting the selector rod to the gearbox's internal selector shaft) which is probably the most finicky bit to do with an exhaust and driveshaft in the way, but would be pointless doing the rest and not this as it's responsible for side to side movement of the stick.
