One ton shackles were a bit of a must have in my younger Landy days. On standard Series motors the axles could cope with the change in pitch on the prop shaft but front UJ suffered. I know a lad that modified his front axle to suit. Personally, l never bothered because l wanted a proper 1 ton Landy and never found one. I still keep looking though!
They are certainly rare, not seen any new ones pop up for a good while now. I'm lucky I got mine long before anyone knew what they were really. I do recall the days of putting longer shackles on a standard truck for a bit of a lift, I guess everyone just fits parabolics nowadays.
Well the axles off a 1 Ton would be too narrow. A standard Tdci 110 can carry 1000KG anyway, plus the gearing would be all wrong as the ENV has a 4.7:1 diff ratio. As to the wheels - series wheels won't fit Defender hubs as they clash with the brakes on the rear axle. The tyres could fit if you used a suspension lift but the speedo would read wrong and I expect the handling would be awful. 900x16 tyres do not give a very good drive.

Lovely Landy 😍
Thanks!
Great video. 👍
Thank you!
My series IIA got the same bonnet like yours.. 👍
It's the same as for a military vehicle.
Can i transfer 1 ton axles into a more modern puma defender and carry more load, or use bigger tires?

what are your tyres?
900x16 as I said at the beginning of the video.
Why 'One Ton' ? Was that the weight they could carry?
Yes.
As opposed to 3/4 ton. I’ve exceeded that in my lwb though!
@@highdownmartin it was/is common, and part of why the 1 Ton was offered as an upgrade.
