  • Some weeks ago I've had the wonderful opportunity to play the incredible Jordi Bosch Organ of the Església de Sant Andreu in Santanyí (Spain). This spanish instrument took me some time to get used to - especially the pedal-board which you will see in a later video. This organ features absolutely wonderful voices though and was worth all the effort!!
    I hope you will enjoy this recording of the Fanfare by Antonio Soler (1729-1783) using the Spanish Trumpets of this Organ in Santanyí!

    Thanks Paul for that genuinely unique experience for me of hearing Fanfare by Soler on an organ built for this work.
    I've visited many ancient Spanish churches and looked at the ranks of trumpets but sadly they have always been silent when I was there. Well played. The bass in the pedal line sounded like a drum beat. Chapeau.

      Ah...there is no dancing in a Catholic Church especially in Spain when this was written.

    • @Alvar2001
      @Alvar2001 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@johnpitchlynn9341 Theres is not "specially in Spain" when talking about catholicism, last thing spaniards wanted centuries ago is that Catholic Church was "spanish" but universal, so a catholic church in Manila it was the same that a catholic church in Milano 300 years ago, that was the purpose. That said, spaniards had their preferences in daily life, dancing was one of them besides being very catholics, and in fact they danced inside churches in special days century after century as much that in fact Carlos III forbade dacing inside the churches because of decorum because spaniards danced very much very often. Padre Antonio Soler was music profesor of infante Gabriel, son of Carlos III.

    • @johnpitchlynn9341
      @johnpitchlynn9341 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Alvar2001 Ah...excuse me...I am a life long Catholic...so don't try to tell me about Church History...which you get wrong. So let us review. The so-called Universal Church is a myth...because every catholic country turned and twisted church dogma to fit its own biases and purposes. And no one danced in Catholic Churches as a rule...in any country including Spain. And the only dancing in Spain in a Catholic Church courtyard...was the dance of those poor souls in a death dance in the throws of being burned at the stake or hung for being a heretic. So please the only thing universal about the Catholic church was LATIN!!! Oh...and don't forget indulgences, the French Popes, the Spanish Inquisition 1478 through 1834, land craps etc. All against the true meaning of Christianity.

    • @johnpitchlynn9341
      @johnpitchlynn9341 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Alvar2001 wrong again...the only "universal" standard was Latin...the rest of the mass was a moving target tailored for specific race or nationality in the audience. The church is more " universal" today than it was back then. There were many sects and different holy orders in the church and they pretty much did their own thing. The Spanish Church was different than the French or English or African or Indian. So please don't try to sell me on a "universal church" 4 to 8 hundred Years ago that is just not true. There was constant change and differences. Vatican II did more to make the church "universal" than any previous councils

    Es admirable la bravura y gallardía de las trompetas españolas situadas de forma característica horizontalmente en lo que se conoce en el mundo entero como trompetería española o trompetería en batalla. Esta disposición tenía dos motivos, por una parte aumentaban la potencia y el efecto sobrecogedor sobre la nave, y por otro, permitían al organista reafinar con frecuencia sus tubos al tenerlos directamente sobre su cabeza. Los órganos del insigne maestro, que trabajó en todo el territorio nacional, abundan en las Islas Baleares. De todos ellos, el más grande y quizás el mejor, fue el de la catedral de Sevilla, que formaba dúo con un Verdalonga. Ambos fueron destruidos por el derrumbe del cimborrio de nuestra catedral, acaecido el 1 de agosto de 1888. Un saludo desde Sevilla.

    As always, wonderful job. Wish there were more organists that could p;lay this well. We have a good organ at our church, but it is seldom used. Mass would mean a lot more if the choir director would use it more often. Gives a whole new meaning to making a "mighty noise unto the Lord."

    Hallo, lieber Paul. Klasse Aufführung von Dir. Die Trompeten klingen voll, so wie man es von einer "Königin der Instrumente" kennt. Ganz nach meinem Geschmack, wie Du Dir ja denken kannst. Danke für dieses Spiel! Viele, viele Grüße von Steffen aus Görlitz. Bis demnächst.

    Amazing performance, and the out of tune reed pipes are SOOOO Spanish! (lol). I love watching you play and your fingering is very instructive! I really enjoyed this video very much. Thank you for posting it.

      Not so much out of tune as the baroque tuning of this organ - middle-tuned, i.e. one tone above the normal ‘A’ probably a′=392 Hz instead of the typical modern tuning standard of a′=440 Hz.

      Alright :) you should come play an American organ if possible, but one of the good ones like St. John the Divine or the erben organ @Paul Fey

    like this: FANFARE - Paul Fey plays the Organ in SANTANYI (Spain) using the SPANISH TRUMPETS - Jordi Bosch. Too me the sound of this organ knock my socks off. And all the colors you showed on another video. OMG

    Just incredible! I had an LP in the 80's of E. Power Biggs playing Spanish organs & this was the first track on it. After that, I was hooked on Spanish organ 'battle' music & became addicted to chamades! Thank you for posting this!
