    To my opinion the people here who don't like this performance are narrow in their views. As a child I played church organ for 10 years, then I started to learn blues guitar, rock 'n' roll, later I studied jazz guitar. Bert van den Brink is a great (jazz) musician! To all the people here I wanna say: don't judge, just listen and enjoy all the music there is: from classical music to hard rock!

      He didn't say at age 10, he said for 10 years. Still, not really that outrageous: There are a lot of churches here, and most of them have organs. Bigger church = bigger, more elaborate organ of course, but many small village churches have organs. If a 10 year old expressed a lot of interest in organs, and could actually play it decently, I'm sure he could access somehow. It's not like they see a lot of use, especially in smaller churches, so I'm sure whoever is responsible for upkeep for the organ/church would be delighted to see some 'fresh blood' showing interest in these beautiful instruments.

      It's a completely different instrument -- you have no sustain pedal, have to operate 2+ manuals at any given time, handle stops and other mechanical eccentricities (swell, etc.), plus maintain a bass with your feet. It's an incredibly majestic instrument, but it requires tons of practice even for a seasoned pianist.

    • @neurodeviant
      @neurodeviant 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There really is no comparing the two insruments. Lots more split attention with organ having to change stops, consoles, foot work, but no depth of touch or sustain to contend with. For fancy foot work see flight of the bumblebee on pedals.

    He is not looking at his hands, he is not watching his feet. He is FEELING, feeling the music, and letting it take him, and dictate how he interprets and plays. This must surely be a spiritual experience for both the artist who is being carried along by the music, and those in attendance who are being taken along on a journey into their own souls and exploring their own emotions. I am a rock man, but I love piano and am exploring the pipe organ. This is a journey I embarked on about a year ago, it is simply amazing.

And it shows that pipe organs made with wood and using bellows were doing things that people thought were only possible once synthesisers came along. The variety, majesty and power of this instrument is bewildering. And for a blind musician to master this beast to such a level is yet another testament to one of my deepest held beliefs: Music is the nearest thing to real magic in this world. A lovely rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. That is a fantastic organ. Bert demonstrates that not only church or classical music can be played on a pipe organ. Simply wonderful.

    I think this song IS holy for those devoted to rock n roll. There have been rock operas in the past, but Bohemian is a rock hymn! It should be played in church, rightfully so. It is a wonder the organist can keep up with the song. It's very complicated. A wonderful performance!

    He kinda reminds me of neil patrick harris as count olaf in a series of unfortunate events, nonetheless an amazing interpretation of the song and the feelings he played with, also kudos to him for playing even when blind because i find it amazing how some people who have a small health issue, disability or nothing at all find excuses for things they have a hard time doing or give up easily (im not saying everyone does) but then people like him who plays the organ flawlessly despite his disability is just amazing my respects to him

      Spi Rale Pipe organs didn't originally come from religion, they were first used as a 'party instrument' for the rich people more than 2000 years ago in the Roman empire. The church is what inspired organ builders to always take it to new extremes of course. But it doesn't need the connection to religion, a lot of big concert halls are equipped with an organ, I myself am an atheistic organ builder. The instrument is just fascinating

      Allthough 'Orgelpark' (Organ park) is housed in a former church, this location near the Vondelpark in Amsterdam is ment as a concert hall for organ music, void of religious context. Of course much clasic music is inspired by religion. With the Organ park one does not have to visit a church to enjoy (old and contemporary) classic music centered around the organ.

    • @timmytexlonghorns2206

      You know organs weren't originally made to be used for church they where just incorpated in to cotholasism and the church in the late 18 hundreds Because before they didn't have the technology and the church doesn't at rock this has nothing to do with the church it's just an organ for gosh darn sake
