Imagine this alarm is triggered in your submarine, right? You turn it off because you repaired the damaged part of the ship but get this, turn this video to 0.75 speed. That sound is what you hear coming from in the distance, not from your sub. That is what I imagine if this were in subnautica.
Let me paint the scene for you... You are the captain of a lonely spaceship flying between galaxies. Because of budget cuts, crew numbers had to be cut down to just 2... Even in a ship that's a whole 350 meters long. You and the engineer. You only see them about once, or twice a day. You do talk over the comlink to overcome the loneliness, but everyone has their own job to do. Your daily commute is walking through empty metal corridors light by crystal white LEDs, giving you an almost sterile/ hospital feel. Suddenly the lights go out, the screens in the cockpit go dark, the comlink is cut. For a few moments everything becomes deathly quiet as the whole ship loses power. This alarm starts blaring and the emergency lighting system comes on (in red). The artificial gravity system slowly powers down and you feel you start to float. Your engineer is out there, maybe trying to reach you. But they don't know where you are... You don't know where they are, you don't even know if they are alive... What do you do? Here's a little nightmare fuel.
Want part 2? You try to get auxiliary power online, but to no avail... None of the systems in the cockpit are responding. Communication systems are down too, you have lost the quantum entanglement link... You are out there alone... Even if you could send out a distress signal, it could take hundreds, or thousands of years for it to reach someone. The only thing on in the cockpit is the green LED signifying that the antimatter containment system is still online. At least that's good... As you leave the cockpit you notice that the door latch is broken. It was fine a few hours ago... You decide to manually override the APU and restore power. You float through the empty corridors, lit in red as the alarm continues blaring. You open every door manually and see various objects slowly float. Books, favorite CDs, a picture of the whole crew from 10 years ago... You ignore it and continue floating, with chills down your spine. Except the alarm, the ship doesn't make a sound... Life support is down too, so no air circulation and purification. You yell out for your engineer, hoping for an answer. You get to Engineering and you find the control console smashed, not by tools, but by hand, almost the entire console is covered by blood... You quickly take out your gun and continue towards the APU. You get to the APU and you find parts of it taken out, floating around it and notice the writing on the wall. It's written in blood and says "You tried to keep us away, you wanted to forget us, but we are you and now we are free..." Then you hear a loud crackle and an automated message comes on... "Antimatter containment field is now running on emergency power! Vent antimatter containment field, or restore power within 12 hours to avoid annihilation"Without the antimatter drive, this "routine" run is gonna take over 100 years... You grip your gun tightly as you back out of engineering and head towards your personal quarters, distraught, overwhelmed, trying to come up with a plan. Your heart is pounding, with your gun in one hand and a flashlight in the other. You were taught how to handle abnormal situations, but most of those were just simple malfunctions. What the hell was going on here. You and the Engineer took psychological tests every week, everything was good... What went wrong... How do you carry on from here? PS: Wrote this after half a bottle of whiskey and looping this video a few times, so if it's no good I am sorry XD
