Thorns is an excellent perk and I never thought about replacing it. After fall damage I think I mostly died to these swarms of tiny enemies I always underestimate.
The Thorns perk actually extends in usefullness on what one might think. First of all, swarmers are not the only enemies this perk causes to die instantly after attacking you. Those super annoying jelly fish will also die if you stand close enough to them, which is likely as their attacks stunn. This makes facing them a lot less threatening as even in big numbers, they only deal low damage, relying on other bugs to close in and deal damage as they keep you in place. This is greately reducing their possible cc on you preventing a lot of horrible scenarios to even occure. Another thing is the great combo potential with see you in hell, making it possible to oneshot pretty much any normal bug with a normal axe swing after they got a bite at your shield. I also noticed that enemies who received damage from this perk did a little flinching animation as if they have just been hit. Not sure wether this noticably delays their following attacks but at times it feels like it does. And last but not least one should look at this perk as an additional damage source as over longer missions the amount of damage this perk will have caused at the end of it will be substantially. Just some thoughts of mine :D Keep yourself safe out there miners!
the perk to revert 24 damage to enemies who attack you, is so great in regards to those small one hit monsters, i wouldnt be too surprised if they nerf it on those specific enemies in the future.
They added a tier of damage specifically to kill small enemies on the highest possible hazard as a hotfix after the perk rework. that is why thorns has 4 tiers and is the most expensive (in perk points) of all the passive perks. It is really strong, i would be surprised in a way if they back-pedaled a hotfix designed to do this. but at the same time i wouldn't because it really feels like they want many of the perks to do nothing.
Vampire on Driller can be very useful if you can make a good enough build. Things like also having Beserk, Iron will, or See you in hell which can all effect how you use it, but can generally turn the Driller into the melee build people want. Add in the drills and making them damage base and the axes, and you can withstand a lot of attacks.
I feel like I’m the only one that actually likes strong arm. It’s so nice being able to throw flares up into the ceilings crevasses and across the map.
@@davidstratton696 Agreed assuming the scout actually uses their flare gun often or even uses it at all. I see so many scouts that completely disregard it for some reason. I used to use "Elemental Insulation/Veteran Depositor/Deep Pockets" as a general purpose set-up for all my dwarves because I like to have some damage reduction and carry more minerals. Recently though, I found that "Thorns" can be better than "Elemental Insulation" because environmental hazards can be avoided and not be too much of a problem.
Sean Lightowler something I didn’t mention in the video is how well elemental insulation works with class specific damage resistance for driller and engineer (their armor has a mod that reduces a certain damage type). I also like having the extra pocket space from deep pockets but recently I’ve dropped the perk and picked up the +5 inventory space from the first tier of armor mods. It hurts shield regen but 5 extra capacity is just enough for what I want.
@@milligin i know this is an old comment, but i think this is still nice I usually combine the armor upgrade with deep pockets on anything that will involve lots of minerals such as gold rush i just think it makes things so much faster along with veteran depositor if it's in a relatively safe zone in place of thorns
On scout i always use Vampire/ Thorns/ X (the reload or deep pocket), combined with berserk and field medic or heightend senses and you are a aoe clear machine who can go solo without problems or support.

Driller being driller has huge aoe, gunner has auto cannon (though if you prefer minigun then running thorns makes more sense), engineer has turret, PGL/breach cutter & electric stubby build and scout's boomstick deals aoe damage to clear out a pack of swarmers.

Question. If one destroys minerals by removing their surounding supporting terrain, causing them to break to "obey gravity", does one loose out on units mined compared to manually mining them with the pickaxe?
Crazy Tactician the short answer is it depends but typically no. The method to remove the terrain also doesn’t factor in to this. I have tested this multiple times with instanced mineral nodes in deep dives and always come out with the same amount of minerals from pickaxe/satchel charge/mining terrain away/EPC thin containment mining/bosco. Hey man, loved your vid I coulnd't help but notice that you make two kinds of videos: gameplays and guides. Guides get like 10k views while gameplay barely reach 500 and your sub count is outragiously low for the quality level you offer I suggest you dropping the gameplay vids as people will come to check out your channel and see it drowned by these and not subscribe as they just wanted the quality guides Just a suggestion that could possibly help you grow the channel with potentially less work :)
Giona Cantarutti I appreciate the feedback and the compliment means a lot. Being forthright here, since you’ve brought up the numbers, I am new to content creation and my channel is relatively young. A fair amount of this is learning what works and what doesn’t as I’ve had no previous experience in the field. I put a lot of heart and time into the guides but I also enjoy making the gameplay content. Less than a month ago I had fewer than 100 subs and I can only hope it continues growing. I like to be able to show that i have consistency as a creator by having regular uploads. The gameplay videos also serve as a sort of reference for anyone who sees my guides, knowing that I play the game at all difficulties with varying groups of play. Again, I really appreciate the insight, I’m sure I will have to make many adjustments as this goes along and this suggestion may be one of them! I’m just glad so many people are enjoying my videos.
@@milligin completely agree with OP would maybe suggest a second gameplay channel as the quality of your guides are definitely worth binging for new players but the gameplay videos are off-putting to look through
@@milligin im not claiming theyre bad i have not watched them as i dont really care for letsplays but sure ill check one out on my break :) was just saying for people who are looking for guides rhey have to scroll past the gameplays to find them and it can be off putting
Sneaky the guides should be appearing at the top of my homepage for both subscribers and non subscribers, same for the playlist page. If this isn’t the case I may have done something wrong with the channel layout. I can’t change how they appear on the videos tab since that is more of a user controlled page with filters and just lists everything in order of date by default. I understand there are a lot of people that don’t wanna watch other people play the game. I’ll do my best to clean up the page as much as I can but if people are turned away because I have gameplay of the game I make guides for on my channel then I’ll just have to accept the loss. I appreciate the feedback as I do want to refine the content that I am providing, if you have any other suggestions of things that may help, let me know.

I coulnd't help but notice that you make two kinds of videos: gameplays and guides. Guides get like 10k views while gameplay barely reach 500 and your sub count is outragiously low for the quality level you offer
I suggest you dropping the gameplay vids as people will come to check out your channel and see it drowned by these and not subscribe as they just wanted the quality guides
Just a suggestion that could possibly help you grow the channel with potentially less work :)
@@milligin completely agree with OP
would maybe suggest a second gameplay channel as the quality of your guides are definitely worth binging for new players but the gameplay videos are off-putting to look through
@@sneaky5141 have you watched the karl dives?
@@milligin im not claiming theyre bad i have not watched them as i dont really care for letsplays but sure ill check one out on my break :)
was just saying for people who are looking for guides rhey have to scroll past the gameplays to find them and it can be off putting
I appreciate the feedback as I do want to refine the content that I am providing, if you have any other suggestions of things that may help, let me know.
ggs that was me :)
