What ultimately makes Bay so frustrating is that he doesn't respect his audience, so he panders to them with lame action sequences, unfunny jokes, and idiotic plots that are absolutely riddled with holes. He assumes the people watching are idiots who will watch any stupid movie with explosions in it -- and the MOST mind blowing thing is that HE'S RIGHT. I don't blame him so much as I do the people who put up with his films and continually fork over hard earned cash to support his awful, idiotic, and often times sexist and racist films. He puts out pure garbage, and saddest of all is that he knows garbage is exactly what the mainstream craves. People will always play Call of Duty. People will always listen to Justin Bieber. And, unfortunately, people will always watch Michael Bay films. The world is cruel and confusing.

The problem is that EVERY single female character in his films are like that; which gives away the idea that we thinks women are like that. There is nothing wrong with a stereotypical character existing, the problem is when every single one of your characters fits the exact stereotype, because that gives away the idea that you believe all people of that group act like that. Literally every writer knows that, even the amateur ones.

Doesn't change they suck, all of them. Most of the shit they listed here is not a problem, the only things that count are his action scenes suck by any metric and his jokes the same. He's an unfunny quack who probably laughs at fireworks go boom in his backyard and if he goes to a circus pays more attention to the clowns than the acrobats. Basically all the movies he made could be remade nearly exactly the same but better by an actual director.

I know that his Bayformer films are lacking, but I'll be damned if the character models aren't good. I know that the G1 transformers have a charm to them and are nostalgic, but the Bayformer models are so real in terms of placement of parts.

I agree with everything except the part in Armageddon where Harry "hands over" his daughter. I think that was just his way of finally giving his blessing to their relationship. Grace wasn't portrayed as stupid or weak, after all, it was she who was responsible for handling the clients while speaking Mandarin, a language that is possibly the most difficult to master outside of American English. Also, she handed Harry's ass to him several times throughout the film, even mentioning how she pretty much raised herself and him when she was a child after her mom passed away. She wasn't on the space shuttle/asteroid with them, but she wasn't powerless.

Watchmojo and probably critics will say it's bad because it's repetitive and cliché, not because it's actually bad. Reusing a resource makes it obvious and predictable so every movie you watch from him becomes less interesting and produces a smaller impact on you
I used to hate Michael Bay's movies too, but lately I'm starting to think that maybe he's not such a bad director. Pain & Gain, 13 Hours and The Rock are just good movies and Transformers and Bad Boys are excellent popcorn movies. And I'm soberly looking forward to his new film, Ambulance. Not every movie has to be art, and it's okay to have a director like him. Sometimes people want a popcorn movie. That's why there are still various horror movies hitting the market every year.
I lowkey agree with some points on this list but #8 the product placement I mean like do you really want to see a cheap ass electric car as a transformer (that would be cool by the way) but audience want to see exclusive, exotic, expensive, beautiful cars
Honorable mention: The colorgrading/lighting and color saturation. In every MB movie there's always orange sunset light on every scene that's not a night scene. In the night scenes everything is bluish.

I prefer Bad Boys, The Rock, The Island, and Transformers. Not all of Michael Bay's films are bad, he made good films such as Bad Boys, The Rock, The Island, Transformers, and 13 Hours. Transformers sequels are the only ones that are panned out of Michael Bay.
I actually like Michael Bay movies. He delivers on what I want when I go to see a film he directs. Loads of action, explosions and even fan-service thrown in for good measure. I don't go and see a Michael Bay movie for subtlety, nuance or deep philosophical themes. As a student who wants to make films in the future, watch mojo's assessment that Michael Bay's films are hated is completely wrong. Agreed that he is a monumentally flawed filmmaker who has never won over the critics, it is still logical and safe to say that he makes entertaining movies. Agreed that in the major part of his career he has mostly made Transformers movies, he cannot be solely judged on that. He has also given films like Armageddon, The Rock and Bad Boys, which are outstanding action movies. And compared to the SJW shit movies that Hollywood is making today, Bay has come to be a still original filmmaker who is focused on making actual movies which shows that he still respects the artform. He isn't trying to compromise on real films and make socially relevant films just so that critics like it. I still respect Michael Bay for what he stands for - true and artistic filmmaking. Plot is not about drama and not about being complicated, it's having a point and the minimum of character development; Bay lacks this. Yes, action movies are usually simpler, it doesn't mean they get to be idiotic, pointless and shallow. Look at Die Hard, Terminator, Avengers, Mad Max... Good action films with a nice plot. You don't have to think much while watching them (unless you want to), but they are amazing nonetheless.

Exactly! A good action film should have a nice balance of storytelling and action scenes. Not too much plot to where it seems preachy and boring, and not too much action that makes it seem dumb and shallow. Good storytelling should allow the viewer to connect with well-developed and well-written characters; if the character(s) is in a situation where they could be killed off, we should be able to feel for them and hope that said thing doesn't occur for them. We'd want them to be victorious at the finale of the film, because in the end, they're a person fighting for the right thing.

I agree with everything except the part in Armageddon where Harry "hands over" his daughter. I think that was just his way of finally giving his blessing to their relationship. Grace wasn't portrayed as stupid or weak, after all, it was she who was responsible for handling the clients while speaking Mandarin, a language that is possibly the most difficult to master outside of American English. Also, she handed Harry's ass to him several times throughout the film, even mentioning how she pretty much raised herself and him when she was a child after her mom passed away. She wasn't on the space shuttle/asteroid with them, but she wasn't powerless.

I prefer Bad Boys, The Rock, The Island, and Transformers. Not all of Michael Bay's films are bad, he made good films such as Bad Boys, The Rock, The Island, Transformers, and 13 Hours. Transformers sequels are the only ones that are panned out of Michael Bay.
I actually like Michael Bay movies. He delivers on what I want when I go to see a film he directs. Loads of action, explosions and even fan-service thrown in for good measure. I don't go and see a Michael Bay movie for subtlety, nuance or deep philosophical themes. That's like showing up to KFC and complaining that there are no waiters to hand you a menu and serve you an appetizer. That's just not what Michael Bay serves up. If you don't like his movies then fine. There are literally millions of people including myself who do.

As a student who wants to make films in the future, watch mojo's assessment that Michael Bay's films are hated is completely wrong. Agreed that he is a monumentally flawed filmmaker who has never won over the critics, it is still logical and safe to say that he makes entertaining movies. Agreed that in the major part of his career he has mostly made Transformers movies, he cannot be solely judged on that. He has also given films like Armageddon, The Rock and Bad Boys, which are outstanding action movies. And compared to the SJW shit movies that Hollywood is making today, Bay has come to be a still original filmmaker who is focused on making actual movies which shows that he still respects the artform. He isn't trying to compromise on real films and make socially relevant films just so that critics like it. I still respect Michael Bay for what he stands for - true and artistic filmmaking.

Plot is not about drama and not about being complicated, it's having a point and the minimum of character development; Bay lacks this. Yes, action movies are usually simpler, it doesn't mean they get to be idiotic, pointless and shallow. Look at Die Hard, Terminator, Avengers, Mad Max... Good action films with a nice plot. You don't have to think much while watching them (unless you want to), but they are amazing nonetheless.

Exactly! A good action film should have a nice balance of storytelling and action scenes. Not too much plot to where it seems preachy and boring, and not too much action that makes it seem dumb and shallow. Good storytelling should allow the viewer to connect with well-developed and well-written characters; if the character(s) is in a situation where they could be killed off, we should be able to feel for them and hope that said thing doesn't occur for them. We'd want them to be victorious at the finale of the film, because in the end, they're a person fighting for the right thing.
