You are breeding in Ireland or were bred in Ireland? Or both ? Just messing with you, Love. I'm 3/4 Irish me -- but like Irish whiskey, there's no such thing as 100 proof, yeah? I come from a long line of Irish bastards (I love saying that) & most my life only knew the Orphan Train whistle stop my gran'da was got at, and that my sperm donor left my Mother at the alter. Years after the paperwork was submitted, I found I was part Kelly, part Mitchell & part Michener. I won a trip to Ireland before I retired, and a was taken by surprise when I burst into tears, seeing the green of Ireland below the airplane window. I was not the only one -- the steward assured us it happens all the time to people who didn't know they had such feelings for Ireland. Hello from the States, if you ever see this. Give my love to Ireland, would you, Dear?
I start to hear sing this beautiful Beauty girl from eire ,and here I am , stuck with glue to listen her perform What a personage God bless her , no doubt about it
Yes well done Malinda that was lovely. Also my deepest sympathies to all affected by the tragedy of 9/11, 20 years ago today. There has been a service here in London for the 67 Brits who died that day.
I sing this song to my children nightly (my oldest is named Daniel and his nick name is "Danny boy") i shared this with them and harmonized. They about fell asleep in our arms.
I keep telling myself that she couldn’t possibly get any better at singing but every time I watch her videos she keeps on proving me wrong. Never stop singing malinda
As a girl with Irish and Scottish blood, songs like this get me so emotional and I long to go to the Emerald Isle one day. Hauntingly beautiful can't even begin to describe this.
Imma be honest. I've listened to this song 3 times now. It makes me cry everytime I listen to it. Her voice is so angelic, you can really hear the power, and soft tones in her notes. There's so much emotion to it and so much weight. This is will always and forever be my favorite version of this song, it's just so beautifully sung.
Malinda... I got to the last of this song with you, and then I am utterly slain by the beauty of your siren-call. I am slain by you, Malinda, and now my soul is set free. Bless you Malinda.
In these dark times with the virus and all the problems in the world, where would we be without music like this? So hauntingly beautiful...thank you Malinda.
I lost both my grandparents to covid last month and this song is very important to me because i would sing it to my Gran all the time (not as good as you). I loved this version
I'm so sorry for your loss! I hope you're doing better now, we're all with you! I'm sure your grandparents are so proud of you, and they're in a better place now ❤️
Sorry to hear of your loss. 😢😥 Hope you are doing okay. ☺️ That hurts a lot, I know. As far as the singing, though, you really remind me of me. ☺️ (Sing it all the time but not as good as her. ☺️ Too true and that's me as well. I sing it and other traditional Irish songs, often, even though I can only sort of sing.)
That was so beautiful. I played it for my friend and he cried his eyes out. His mom was a British nurse during ww2 and his dad a soldier who was shot down on D-day. This was my friend's mom's favorite song and he said she would sing it alot
Many people can sing this song beautifully, but not many can may you feel the emotions behind it. I honestly don't know what this song is about, but to me it seems like a father or a mother waiting for their son to come back from a war or some sort of conflict. Well done Malinda, indeed you are a siren except without for the threat of being killed part.
My youngest son is called Daniel. I used to sing this to him when he was a child. We’ve not spoken for years after a family argument. He’s 17 now and I miss him so much. This song reminds me of the good times.
This is the song at my dad's funeral.. listening to your version brought tears to my eyes..his name was Daniel and he was proud of his Irish heritage..thank you for this..
Thank you for making this Malinda, I played this to my dad when he will ill and he loved it unfortunately he passed away a few weeks back but we will be using this version for his funeral ❤x
Well done Malinda that was lovely. Also my deepest sympathies to all affected by the tragedy of 9/11, 20 years ago today. There has been a service here in London for the 67 Brits who died that day.
Oh, wow. Moving, beyond words. Stunning control, pure and open sound - just the way I have hoped to hear this sung for years. Thank you, that I shall never forget.
Malinda, I hope you're reading the comments. Here I am a year later so you probably have. I just read many and it appears that your voice is so Heavenly, almost the entire audience is in tears over your beautiful singing of Danny Boy. If you ask me, that is the sign of a true artist. One that is immersed in the song and paints the meaning of the words and the melody on the ears and hearts of the listeners, making the song truly come alive. ❤😊🎶🎶
Wow... No other words than just wow... That was phenomenal. Everything about this piece from the low background drone to your amazing high notes was absolutely perfect. Well done.
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard this song. So you know how old this cover is when you find yourself crying AFTER you’ve been desensitized to the song in question.
Ohhh my.....now this is the way to sing this properly. My favorite song, and many versions I have heard, but this....this is it. You have mastered all the nuances of this great work. Well done, ohhh soo sweet!!!
few songs have ever made me cry but this... my father's name was Danny and this was one of his favourite songs. we sang it when we buried him four years ago. I'm crying my eyes out, thank you so so much for this.
I'm of proud Irish heritage. I sang this to all of my children when they were little, going to sleep in my arms. I've heard so many different singers cover this. Yours is the one that I'll remember the most. Thank you.
I couldn't agree more with Ian McGowan's comments. There's a place your rendition takes me to that is so near the spirit of the song. You seem to inhabit the full sentiment of this anthem. Simply quite beautiful to listen to and see yourself emersed in the emotion pull of the song
This song has a very special place in my heart. It my parents' "song". My mother was Irish, and my father met her when his ship was ported in Londonderry during WW2. It became "their song" during their courtship and was played at their wedding and both of their funerals. It always touches me and brings a bit of a tear to my eye, and your performance of it was absolutely beautiful.
This is the most powerful version I have *ever* heard in my long-ish life!! It's such a wistful and melancholy song. A parent (father?) who feels he may well be dead before his son returns, and is so sad that he has to leave. It's really quite heartbreaking.
This song is very special to me and my youngest son...Danny boy. Since he was a baby, every St. Patrick's Day we would go to the local Irish pub and watch the kids dance the jig during the daytime, and he and I would ask a Piper to play Oh DANNY BOY for us. Now, I am the old one, and he is still my Danny boy. I have almost lost him to Cancer, Genetic defects, and clotting disorders. He pulled through and we still go every year to the pub, ( he is an adult now and drinks beer a& tries to get me to dirink, he giggles with me on St. Patricks day.) I am now ill and we have only missed our "date" twice in his life..once for a elderly Aunt that died and I had to be in New York, and when he was in the hospital dying with cancer. He made it! and he even had the Pipe Band of Kells Irish Pub play Oh Danny Boy on the pipes over the phone for me when we were separated by the funeral. Your singing of this song is without a doubt the most hauntingly beautiful version I have ever heard! I just shared it with my Danny boy and we only have 3 months to go until we hear it on the pipes again. Merry Christmas to you dearest Malinda, and thank you for this. I will play it at my funeral for him to hear you sing my feelings to him when I no longer can. God Bless.
@Bettie Russo There is nothing new under the sun, and all that is now has yet to be and also has been before. Still, there are mysterious explanations and mysteries unexplained. No one knows exactly the month, nor the day, nor the hour… Even though you did not say it, I know your journey has taken you to the very darkest depths of suffering. All the worry, the helplessness, the anguish and the fear that only a mother can feel for her child; yet through your hope and your own resolve, you gave him your determination and your will to survive. Your journey went from the depths of despair to the heights of the stars when you gave him your courage, and your strength, to fight the big fight and to succeed. The only constant thing throughout your journey so far has been the ceaseless and enduring love that you have for your son. Your son is now a very lucky man to have a mother like you. Somehow I get the feeling that he won’t be hearing the song, “Danny-Boy” anytime soon. Love, Light, Courage & Blessings… 💜🙏🏼💜
Incredible!! I've heard many touching versions of this song and whilst a bagpipe in the song may get me misty eyed, this brought me to tears. This sets a new standard. Keep on singing m'lady
My God Malinda 😢 you've made me cry 😢. Such clarity and passion. Mkving me with every chord ❤. You have the uplifting voice and love of an Angel. Love your Music 🎶 🎵 🎤 💛

Oh my gosh, this is the song that keeps on giving. SO incredibly beautiful. Goosebump worthy every time I return to listen to your lovely voice grace the notes of this truly poignant melody.
Over fifty years ago, I sang this song as a boy Soprano, won many voice competitions and sang as a solo with 60 piece orchestras. It was always my parents favorite song for me to sing. This brought tears to my eyes as I tried to remember hitting those high notes. Thank you so much for letting your love of music and your God given gift flow through this classic love song. Thank you.
I was a DJ at one of my mom's art shows at her college and she requested this song for her friend Danny. Danny's reaction to this song was absolutely priceless. I should have filmed it on a camera. His response to this was absolutely unforgettable. I will be listening to this song remembering that when I'm old and grey.
Many assume this is a love song between a man and woman, but it's a father to his son going off to war. Serving in wars then could mean an absence of ten or twenty years, hence the question of the timing of his eventual return. Beautifully performed!!!
We played this song for our dog. He was dying n we were taking him to the vet the next morning. We drank and played songs all night. Thank you for this. It's so beautiful.
OMG, you are a treasure. My mom died a few days ago. I am her Denny boy. Your voice kills me its so beautiful. I am so glad I found your youtube page. It helps me. You are beautiful
I get mesmerized by each and every song you sing. The traditionals appeal to my senses and emotions the most. Your voice is angelic, pure, golden. Very touching!
