Hi Karen, I have learned so much having discovered the world of TH-cam watercolor tutorials just a few weeks ago. Gratefully, I found you!!Your instruction is spot on. I bought a membership and it posted to my Credit Card on May 21st. I promptly went to FB and have awaited an approval. I sent you a FB message a few days ago. This comment is an avid attempt to learn more from you and others!!!! Thanks so much! -Barbara S Keene

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this video. So let me make sure I understand the gesso part. It keeps the ink from soaking into the paper so the ink just mostly floats on top of it until dry. That way it can be manipulated more. But once dry, it's still pretty permanent. Am I understanding right? I would definitely try that. Sometimes I really need more time to play with the ink before it's permanent on the paper. I had tried fixing that by adding ingredients to the ink or paint. It never occurred to me to add something to the paper instead. 😂
I’m really glad you found this helpful. It’s fun experimenting with inks and gesso!
Just love it!x❤
Thank you so much 😊
Love it
Beautiful painting. Very interesting technique. May I ask a question? I thought painting watercolour on watercolour paper, is that a watercolour paper? so why prime the paper with gesso? Is it because you were using acrylic ink? Thanks for the tutorial.
Yes, I applied the Gesso because I was using inks.
Beautiful!
This reminds me so much of alcohol inks and yupo paper. I'm wondering if gesso would improve the flow of alcohol ink on watercolor paper...Poor access to yupo pushed me into watercolor but it's finally easily available. Thank you for all you do
That is a really good question, I have not tried gesso with alcohol inks. Maybe it would be fun to try… :-)
@@KarenRiceArt I have some old canvases so it's a project 😂
😍
Thank you so much Karen, I really really enjoyed watching you and listening to whilst you created this absolutely amazing and stunningly beautiful painting I am blown away by your amazing artwork and creativity too. Karen may I please ask, can I used watercolours on acrylic paper? Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤ I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤❤ this picture too.
Thank you so much 😊
I would advise to paint on 100% cotton, cold pressed, 300gsm paper.
Thanks. Exquisite. My kind of painting. This gessum, do I just brush it on, or do I thin it first? Grateful…..
Thank you so much. Great question… I applied the gesso with a large brush. Hope this is helpful :-)
Question: Do you have to frame under glass as you do watercolor.? I would think not since you did gesso the paper.
I would frame the ink painting and a glass. Mainly because it protects the painting from UV rays and moisture.
❤❤❤❣
Thank you 😊
What is gesso
Gesso provides the protective layer between the surface and the paint.
Please: What paper was used?
Are you is 300 g watercolour paper
Beautiful!!!
Thank you so much 😊
