  • Today I'm trying out the new "Fluicer", a flat plastic juicer that is super easy to use and gets a bit more juice out of your citrus. Its design also allows it to travel easier (my bar tool bag is constantly bursting at the seams) and store better in a drawer.

    Next test:
    1) Press half an orange in your metal press, then try the SAME half an orange in your plastic press and see if it gets any more juice out.
    2) Press the other half of the orange in your plastic press, then try the SAME half an orange in your metal press and see if it gets any more juice out.
    That's a pretty decent way of determining which press is more effective.

    Just bought one after seeing this video. Juiced an orange in a Mexican elbow, then put the juiced fruit into the Fluicer and it got another 4-5 drops out. 👍

    I really like this, as you said, esp. for travel kits. Thanks for the insight, as always Jeff.

    Always been curious about the flat hand juicers. The round metal ones never seem to get all the juice out. Thanks for posting!

    This product looks really interesting. (With the Mexican style juicer, I usually flip the shell over and juice it a second time to get more juice out)

    • @SanTM
      @SanTM ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I do a 180 north to south flip to yield a bit more juice. Have heard people say squeezing the ever loving shite out of citrus can get too bitter/extract too much oil but not noticed any flavour changes. I think wasting the resource would annoy me more than any negligible flavour/bitterness difference

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I so rarely use a press, anything over one piece of fruit and I bust out the stand juicer. But that might change with this.

      @@jeffmorgen And it looks like the flat juicer has enough room for juicing chunks of pineapple to make one-off tropical drinks (not practical with a Mexican style juicer)

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah there’s no noticeable flavor difference whatsoever. I’ve heard that before and it’s ridiculous the myths that people like to propagate in order to convince you they know something you don’t.

    The juicy bits on the citrus fruit are called fronds. All citrus have the tiny juice pockets 🍊🍋.

    I’m curious as to how easy it is to clean after using it?
    As I’m sure you know juicing a lot of citrus in a hand juicer causes a lot of buildup of citrus oils that need a full scrubbing to clean not just a rinse.

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know for sure but I would guess that this is going to last longer in and out of a dishwasher than an enameled press will.

    Good to see. Interesting to see how it endures. Think it would work with lime and lemon in it too?

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you'll want an orange one for oranges and grapefruits, and a yellow one for lemons and limes. This feels like it's not going to have the leverage for smaller fruits.

  • @bullgrim
    @bullgrim ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What happens if you put the orange following the direction on the second juicer? Yes, I guess there will be juice, but...

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah like straight down instead of sideways? I don’t think it’ll fit that way.

    Interesting. Amazon UK has a separate lime, lemon and orange one from £13 to £18... I like the Mexican press I have as it does all including smaller oranges. Have you tried the orange one with limes and lemons?

    Is it can juice pomegranate ?

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m guessing it would be a little small for a pomegranate. I still just use my big metal standing press juicer for those.

    Any concern about getting too much the citrus oil from the skin in the juice? I noticed the skin was pretty well punctured after being fluiced.

    Those hinge pins look way to tiny. Looks like it would break the pin or the plastic would break at the hinge.

    How do you think it compares to the Chef’n Freshforce?

    • @jeffmorgen
      @jeffmorgen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those juicers are just slightly modified conventional hand presses. This is a completely different method of crushing the citrus. Also those Freshforce juicers have too many moving metal parts for my taste!

    • @maximiliantagher8290
      @maximiliantagher8290 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffmorgen I think the ergonomics on the Freshforces are killer, so much nicer than the cheaper metal ones. But, the freshforce has pretty bad durability; I’ve gone through like 4. They have a new model with supposedly better durability though
      Will try the fluicer next time I break one

    • @jeffmorgen
