    I've coincidentally just bought this throttle myself, Greg. It's brilliant, like yourself I was using the Warthog throttle. I'll never get tired of that action of pushing the Viper throttle through the AB detent, or over the horn when you go from off to idle. The throttle is ergonomically brilliant, hats off to whoever at General Dynamics designed this thing on the real F16 haha!

    When these came out I wanted one....but after this review, I believe this may actually be a NEED! Great review, hit all the points I was also questioning on it, thank you!

      glad it was helpful. I thought I'd need to get the F-15 grip to fly anything else other than the Viper but now I think I'll actually stick with this grip :)

    I’ve had mine for a while now and along with the MSFFB side-stick it really is the perfect setup for my F-16C flying in VR. The original Orion 2 base definitely has better detents on the sliders (I also have a v2 for comparison) and the only real negative for me was the design choice for the manual range ‘wheel’, which is poor and difficult to use IMO. I’ve actually replaced that with a 3D printed (and perfectly colour-matched) alternative which works much better, and was easy to install. Please keep up the good work Reflected, very much looking forward to Arctic Thunder!

    Great review. Thanks, Reflected.
    I actually decided to purchase the Thrustmaster Viper TQS instead, and I'm extremely happy with it. I briefly considered the WinWing Viper throttle you reviewed here, but Red Kite's review suggested that the WinWing throttle didn't have the same smoothness on the primary throttle axis, and some of the switches on the grip also felt lower in quality. Separately, I've heard rumors that sim app pro can cause performance issues in DCS.
    I'm glad we have choices, though. It's a great era for combat flight simulation peripherals!

    Absolutely adore mine, and it adds so much to the feeling of using the F16. Certainly one of my better purchases unlike the MSFFB that I got at the same time. That’s ok, but I just feel it’s missing something, pain to setup and get the feeling right. I should of waited and saved up for the Real Simulator, which I am currently doing and will be shelving the MSFFB after just a few months use.
    The F16 throttle and base however, if you can get it. DO. You won’t regret it

    I have had mine for about one year now. I love it. The two sliders have not lost their friction over this time. I also have a TM Warthog throttle, i use this as a button box. A tip with the F-16 and flying warbirds. I use the throttle as throttle and the antenna elevation as prop speed.

    Great review and great to hear how well it works with warbirds as I’ve struggled to map my current warthog throttle for those. Only thing I’m thinking of is if it’s possible to customise (3d-printing somehow) the throttle detents as I’m flying the Viggen a lot and want to have those for the three afterburner stages. 3d-printing different detents for the Warthog is a nice way the feeling in the throttle between different planes.

    Thanks for the review. I picked one of these up a while back, it has smaller rotary knobs so those grey ones must be a new revision . It looks like I've been limiting myself to only flying the F-16 with it, I'll try out the other aircraft you mention

    Thanks for the review Reflected! I've been considering the WinWing F16 but I was worried that it wouldn't be transferable to other modules as well as the Virpil throttle I have, which is pretty universal. It sounds like this throttle will work well. I'll take another look at it.

  • @nemisis_wolf
    @nemisis_wolf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm lucky enough to have the funds to buy this and also a second throttle base that I have the F-15EX split throttle grip attached to and just switch between the two depending on whether I'm flying a twin engine plane or single.
    I have to say I love both of them and regard them both as high quality and value for money for what you are getting.
    One point though, you mention that you need to select a different profile to get the afterburner detent to be active for that patticular jet. I found that this is not needed and can jump from an F-5E to an F-14 or whatever without having to change anything and the afterburner detent is always spot on.
    Also love the fact that moving the throttles from shut down to isdle acts as a switch also and you can do a start up by adding fuel just by moving the throttle to the idle position and this activates the throttles idle switch in game giving a realistic engine start and shutdown just from throttle movement. No need to clock the throttles by mouse or button press to move it in game.
    All in a great addition to any sim pilots cockpit.
    Keep up the great work on your campaigns I've got most of them

    • @ReflectedSimulations
      @ReflectedSimulations  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Interesting. If I calibrate the detent, it’s spot on in the Viper but not in other planes. E.g. In the Tomcat, min burner is a cm past the detent. So I have to activate a custom profile.

    • @nemisis_wolf
      @nemisis_wolf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ReflectedSimulations do you keep the simapp software active while flying? I do and it seemingly helps sync the hardware and software so this might be the issue or not😅

      @ReflectedSimulations  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nemisis_wolf I don’t keep it open. Maybe I should, then?

    • @nemisis_wolf
      @nemisis_wolf 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ReflectedSimulations I think it will sort the issue since when you are calibrating the Afterburner Detent point you are not setting this for any particular aircraft your just setting it as a default mark point on the Throttle itself. The simapp software Syncs the Throttle with the DCS Software and also Syncs the backlights on the Throttle with the ones in the cockpit so dimming the lights int the cockpit with a mouse click or turn also dimms the Throttle backlights, I'm assuming that switching Aircraft while in game without activating a particular profile also alters the Detents to suit whatever aircraft your jumping into since i have never had to activate different profiles to get the afterburner to be activated at the right point it has always just done it.
      Will test and see and I have no doubt you wil do the same😁👍

    Couple things you missed that I really really like is the haptic feedback, You need to run the software for it to work but totally worth it. Those metal switches on the base are better quality than my $4k custom built amplifier, and they may seem a little stiff at first but break in nicely. It took 4 days from ordering to having it shipped from china to US East coast....amazing speed for international shipment. Despite the obvious language barriers, they have THE BEST customer service compared to their competitors. SO MUCH METAL

    How much work would it be to switch throttles on that base? I'd rather have split throttles for the Tomcat, Hornet, Mud Hen and A-10 (later Phantom, Tornado and Eurofighter as well)? Or would it be more practical to invest into two bases, one for the Viper (and other single-engine aircraft), and the other for everything else? I'd rather not have to dish out an additional 200 bucks.

    Yeah, I bought the F16 throttle 9 months ago and it worked really well with most modules inc the Apache. I later bought a F-15EX split throttle and Orion 2 base that came with the grey knobs, etc. with sliders that have less friction as you mention.
    As I almost exclusively use the F15EX split throttle (due to it's flexibility i.e. A-10C, FA18C,etc) - I passed the old Orion 2 base to my son as a Christmas gift and have put the F16 Throttle into storage (along with a pair of FA18C throttle grips).
    Biggest disadvantage I found was the difficulty in assemble/attaching the F16 throttle AB detent plate to the base and the need to buy M4 nuts and washers to attach the suction feet/level the base (for it's price Winwing should inc a robust solution that's better than double sided sticky tape - however not an issue if bolting the base to your desk, etc).

    1:58 Uhmmm I'm afraid those screws are installed the wrong way around... might wanna check the manual again. The base of the handle has countersunks to fit the screw heads, the handle is screwed to the right axis. The middle bolt then connects both axis together.
