Just turned 59. I had to drop to triples for squats and deadlifts. Recovery took a long time doing 5s. Only been training 5 months but I read the books, practiced, record videos and gained 40 pounds. Beware of the vitamin D milk. You will put it on quickly.

Did you drink a lot of milk

@@Re3iRtH not a big milk drinker anymore. My mother in law stayed with us and likes milk in coffee. When she left I used the milk to mix my protein drink. 2 cups of milk, protein powder and hand mixer. It is very tasty. I had already gained about 20 pounds from training and eating. I put on another 10 in a few weeks of milk and protein powder. I lost 100 pounds from over 300. Going from 185 to 225 is a bit scary but the weight is mostly muscle.

@@toddk2737 I've been 158 - 168 my entire adult life (although shredded with a V-taper). Tried all sorts of diets. When I lift my body composition is optimized. It would be a dream for me to put on 20 lbs that easily.

I don't recommend it but I do high volume and intense training. 4+ days a week. 5/10,10/10, 10/7/5/3/1... squats and bench. Never been stronger and muscles growing.. Hope to be benching 340+ by summer. No gear or TRT ever. I'm 67. Started back about 2.5 yrs ago. Go figure ?
Only problem is sleep and lots of lonely widows.

@@Travis_Trauma Sonny, most of us old guys live with pain and a lifetime of injuries, accidents, fights, stabbings, matches ,falls, bites, broken bones, blow-out on eye, bike accidents, maybe low test too. We just don't let it slow us down. That's why we are still here lifting hard and heavy. A little BenGay and I'm ready to go !

I went carnivore lifestyle 14 months ago. Now beating my lift and rep records of 5 years ago for shot put training. Oh, @breathemore8099, arthritis as good as gone. And perhaps because along with no more carbs and sugar I do bp, squat, dl and core-hold as a circuit, COPD improved.

Well, what if you’re shifting gears? Change from 1st to 2nd to 3rd.
Or if you change your clothes then change again into still different clothes and the next day you wear three more different outfits…

Rip, what is your advice for obese people with arthritis and sjogren's syndrome? The sjogren's syndrome causes a difficulty with swallowing and the whole combo creates a lot hunger which makes calorie restriction a lot more difficult and because of the arthritis physical exercise is a challenge too.

If you lower the reps to 3 without increasing the number of sets, won't you get weaker over time.

I am doing 3x5 across for 3 weeks then a week of 3x3 for heavy work sets. It seems to be working well for me.
65, doing NLP, squat and bench 2x a week, deadlift and press 1x a week.
Recovery is key. Volume sensitive, intensity dependent. Read the Barbell Prescription book, it will all make sense. .

@@brianpalmer4643 3 reps x 5 sets. NLP is novice linear progression= adding weight each session to take advantage of novices ability to adapt quickly.
