    I have rehabilitated 15 people using the starting strength model and all of them have become beast after a year of starting strength. When physical therapy fails you or bodybuilding fails you you'll pay good money to be trained by Alan thrall or any starting strength coach. P. S. Mark rippetoe is a barbell strength god sent to us from the cast iron plate heavens😇😇😇

    This video is amazingly helpful! I've been trying to lead with my chest, instead of my butt even though this is supposed to be a leg exercise... I've also been trying to break first with my knees instead of both hips and knees breaking at once, because I've heard knees are supposed to break first, but it feels so unnatural to have them break separately. Both breaking together feels so much more natural and correct for my body. Thank you for this! I used to lift weights and am getting back into it. I used to never squat because I heard it was so easy to mess up and destroy your back. I was fine with deadlifting though lol. This video gives me the confidence to try squatting now that I'm getting back on the saddle!

    So... I wish I watched this video before I did my squat set today and tried helping my newb friends. Regardless I sent them your updated squat video and I'm learning a lot.
    Also, I appreciate that each of the trainees have very different body types. Makes it easier to understand how far some should lean over.
    Can't wait to try. Thanks Alan Thrall!!!

    I really don't understand all the hate for SS in the comments. I personally don't do EVERYTHING the SS way, but it's such a fantastic starting place to build skill, I don't see the problem here.
    When I first started studying Rippetoe's methods, I was a high bar squatter. I switched to SS method, and I sucked at it for a while, then I got better, and after a while I adapted into my own variation of it. It's well worth going through, even if you don't end up keeping EVERYTHING from the method.

    Awesome coaching. Not afraid to say "too deep" or "put your knees over your toes."
    I'm no expert but given my knowledge I'd say you picked out all the major stuff for each person, just like you were supposed to.
    Also, girl in white top seems like a natural squatter. She seemed to be best built for it.

    I imagine a lot of novices have quite a bit of trouble getting the bar position with the SS prescribed thumbless grip and straight wrists, right? That was a huge struggle for me, but only in my right shoulder interestingly. I would get the worst pain in that shoulder (in the medial deltoid muscle itself). So bad I could barely focus on actually squatting and just wanted to get the damn thing off me as soon as possible.
    Fixed it with deep, painful lacrosse ball rolling of that medial deltoid everyday, plus some stretching in a doorway mimicking the squat bar position. That, and I believe light dumbbell lateral raises helped loosen up, tear down and regrow the stiff muscle fibers.

    • @HypronVideos
      @HypronVideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I'm having similar issues at the moments. My left shoulder is less flexible than my right shoulder and it's really hard for me to keep my left wrist straight. I've been stretching and it's getting better but I still got ways to go.

    this video is really that much helpful! because it is not only the technique what you show, but it is combined with some beginners problems and fails, and therefore one can learn so much from it, and combine it with the own problems, and maybe fixing them. I am stronger in low bar than high bar squat, but I have problems with my lower back all the time... I'm a far more better deadlifter than squater, no problems when deadlifting at all, although my deadlift begins from very high hips (almost romanian). but when squatting, I always get troubles with it. my back is not so relaxed than from the people in the video, also stretching doesnt help a lot. do you have maybe some special tips? and sorry for my bad english, native german :)

    Alan , I enjoy your content and am a big fan. Girl with glasses appeared to be hyper extending in the thoracic spine, probably why she had so much difficulty hitting depth and made hip drive difficult. get her to tuck her rib cage down, and keep her chin locked down. Do not worry, her chest will still be "up" as per ss model.
    Again I enjoy all your content, big fan

    I wish I was able to get a session with you on squatting. I just started training a few months ago, am 45 years old. I was told I had pinched nerves and arthritis in my lower back so doing this kind of stuff scared me. lately I have been doing goblet squats, and its going great. I am so worried about hurting my back and making an ass out of myself in the gym, I have only done a few barbell squats when no one was around, with just the bar. I was always told to try and keep my back vertical as much as possible. I now know that was wrong, so even trying to bend over more feels weird to me.

  • @Yupppi
    @Yupppi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it not a problem how the red-shirted guy goes almost into a hunch in the upper back, it looks like the bar is about to roll on his neck when it rounds? I've been seeing cues like push your upper back into the bar tight and neutral. With the blue-shirted guy I feel like he has the same thing I used to battle with, trying to follow others on how they squat. Long femurs and thinking you're supposed to not let your knees go over the toes -> sitting way too back and driving the hip first to find the balance. I feel like it leads to weaker quads than back and as a result you start driving your hip back.
    It was curious how everybody squatted differently initially and the coaching made them look different until at the end they all ended up with that same groove.

    Hi, Alan, my problem in squatting is that if you are going to stand "all the way up" somewhat locking the hip when standing up. How will the barbell not fall? I cannot stand vertically all the way up because I'm afraid that my arms and shoulders would be required to carry the barbell or it will fall. Basically, it's the same problem Doug has in 8:30. Thanks
