I-44 was the last of the major freeways built in STL, finished in 1972. This starts with old 66 in Fenton, which breaks off at Watson Rd (MO 366). The Lafayette St. exit was supposed to be MO 755; death by NIMBY. 44 merges onto the old Third Street Highway with 55 (it used to end there) and now proceeds to I-70 at the Musial Bridge, which you can't get on from 44. That entire area where 40, 44, 55 and 64 meet was messed up from Day One and really isn't much better now.
Great video mike! I love the smooth ride through Interstate 44 in St Louis. I would love to see the Gateway Arch though. The tour site over there should be amazing!
Driving videos always look happier when it's sunny....from Fort Worth, Texas.
Nice ride along interstate 44 through St Louis MO
Excited for the arch!! Not as excited about Illinois being a control city for I-55 NB/I-64 EB/US 40 EB. I did like Downtown STL being a control city though.
I miss STL. I'm from florida but live in STL for two years for school. It's overall a nice place, TBH.
Nice drive.😢😮😅😊
Nice ride....from Fort Worth, Texas
Haven't seen this view in 20 years. Thanks!!!
Another great video, Mike! I’ve driven the along I-44 and I-55 through St. Louis many times. The Poplar Street Bridge is still really annoying and I’m glad you didn’t have to deal with it.
The Poplar Street Bridge is in the I-64 video.
@@Markkos1992oh thanks. I did know he posted one for I-64. 😊
St. Louis… past murder capital of the US, now dropped to (depending on what source you believe .. there are a lot of sites reporting conflicting data) #2-#15. I was there once on a business trip (we had an office in Earth City) and I drove into St. Louis to see the arch. Weird to see hard liquor being sold in gas stations. From your perspective, this is the first place I ever saw roads signed with 2 alpha characters (I.e. AB).

what cities are you planning on filming after St Louis?
I don’t know, what can top the garden spot of the Heartland? 😂😂 Not as flat as I remember but maybe I was on a different road.
I-44 wider than I thought.
Which leads me to my questions:
Which east/west highway has the highest AADT? I-44? I-64? I-70?
Which east/west highway is the most congested? I-44? I-64? I-70?
I-44 and I-70 are usually the most congested due to the frequent construction. Highway 40 is usually good outside of rush hour.
