I really like the Penitent Host detachment. I like that the concept of getting free 6’s for killing, especially in a detachment that has sustained hits on all of its models (and lethals if you throw in a palatine to a unit of repentia)
@@Gigasius I already made my own cathedral tank from a Baneblade. (It wasnt an original idea. Saw it on the internet somewhere and it was inspiring enough to make my own.)
I’ve never played 40k before but I’m currently building and painting my first army which is the Adepta Sororitas and I’ve been loving it. And the new codex is exciting to learn!
33:47 - The best combo here is likely 10 seraphim with 8 handflamers, led by Celestine or a Jump Canoness with the flamer upgrade for 9d6+9, S5 (7? for celestine) if you came down within 12 or just advanced up the board for the +1 str. with AP -1 if you shot your target with a cassie. with dev wounds from the stratagem. An average of 40 shots, So around 6-8 devs on average!
They are all thematic and really cool. All abilities seem to have their use cases. I'm very happy with this and while more would be cool I'm no longer disappointed with just 4
23:55 I wanted to point out that the strat is actually much more powerful: You get to move when you are selected as target. Meaning that if you can reach melee, they cannot shoot you. And also you do not need to lose a model to move. It is much better, especially for situations in which the shooting unit is very close, for example around an objective.
13:50 auto explode on your mortifiers or penitent enginges next to your tanks to get that DD1 to scrap the paint for all your tanks to get +1 to hit is great! 29:40 heavy bolters on cassie and morty will really like the ignore cover and esp if you can get them to ap2 ignore cover from a cassie buff aswell :)
My favorite part about the Codex is like they said, every Detachment feels unique and worthy of tabletop time. I went in to the early reviews thinking Army of Faith had something super special, but after hearing this explanation, Bringers of Flame and Penitent Host are my favorites - in that order.
Are you 100% sure you need to re-roll both dice when you sub in miracle dice I have seen this go both ways and am confused. Because in the Example under the battle of sisters core rules it says to treat a 2d6 roll as (D6+4) for example turning the miracle dice into basically modifer and, modifiers are applied after the re-roll. It does say in the Rules commentary that when re-rolling a dice roll that involves several dice (2d6) all of the dice need to be rerolled. Its argued when you sub in the miracle die it is no longer a 2d6 roll.
Unfortunately, as written, the Penitent Host is required to pick a Vow of Atonement each round. So it’s stuck using one each of the first three battle rounds. You can’t keep one in your pocket for the late game.
Unfortunately the jump pack cannoness with zephyrim would have to take their trash power weapon over their unique halberd to benefit from Zephyrim, they only give their buff to power weapons in their unit. So Celestine doesnt have synergy either, outside of healing bodyguards
Is it still worth it to take an Immolator with the sole purpose of splitting BSS? I'm not asking if Immolators are good, or if splitting BSS is tactically sound. I'm only asking if taking an Immolator just to split BSS is worth it. I'm bummed that BSS can't generate MD without the Simulacrum - unless I'm mistaken?
25:21 space marine player here; unfortunately, the +1 strength rule in firestorm also only applies to ranged weapons :/ If it gave it to melee weapons, you best BELIEVE I’d run Firestorm over Gladius.
The auto-explosion is situational, but I think the real benefit is triggering +1 to hit for melta weapons, tanks etc in an aura around the destroyed vehicle model
39:00 I think they changed it because if you don't split the BS squad and you had 2 different squads you would gain 4 MD, or 9 with 3 BS. So now you only gain a 50% chance to gain it, I didn't read the wording and see if they changed that as well though. Is it still worded the same?
Question ! Do the bolt pistol shoot in cac counted as 12 ps or less in bringer of flames ? It could make some nasty surprises for overconfident models with high end ^^. Edit : the sword in army of faith say : models, not characters ^^. Just saying.
@@VanguardTactics Well, a pistol is a weapon we can shoot while in cqc. Does it count as under 12 " ? Sorry for the language, i mixed some french acronyms there ^^.

Although the Angel detachment sounded cool, their army rule ONLY being using 2 MD per unit per phase soured me on it The 3 inch aura range feels a bit 'Why bother', and the more MD used isn't much of a plus when you can't rolled above a 3...
Honestly, SM codex is pretty bad as detachments go. Only 2 are good. CSM 3-4 are good. Some bad nerfs and questionable nerfs and some not changed to be good or became to good.
Really excited to see your takes on this codex and happy to see more playstyles opening up for one of my favourite armies!
