Real estate speculation by foreigners is making impossible for locals to buy or rent a house

THIS. And it needs to be stressed that it is not FOREIGNERS per se (outside Algarve and Lisbon, MAYBE), because there just are not enough of of them to make such an enormous difference. It is not people moving to Portugal to live. It is outside capital investments trying to SPECULATE on properties.

How many non residents are making life (fortune) on this and get, for some strange reason, tax benefits?

@@luisfilipe534 Not to sell, but to turn properties into airbnb rentals. The problem with the out of control tourism that's has been plaguing Portugal for the past few years, plus letting in hordes and hordes of third worlders without any control is a bigger problem than some americans or brits buying houses.

yes, my mother and i were going to move to Portugal to retire. while we didn't expect a very cheep life style, while being Dubble taxed are a social security check, it is cheaper to stay in America.

Building quality of houses isn't good. Income and expenses do not match.

With such low wages, things have to be affordable. I lived in Portugal a few years ago, and I absolutely hated it. The country is absolutely beautiful. My biggest issue was the people. I found them cold and racist. They are all about their colonial past.
Americans tend to romanticize Europe. I would
not trade the US for Portugal. The US has a lot of issues, but no place is perfect.

Man, I can't watch this video and not think that you have something against Brazil.
For foreigners, paying for a private healthcare system is so cheap and they will have access to great quality.
Not to mention that he will have access to the best of Brazil due to the fact that the currency has a large difference in value, allowing him to go to the best restaurants and have access to the best accommodation.
Crime is present in the lower social classes, meaning if you are going to the right places you won't have any problems.
What I think is bad is in relation to electronics that are very expensive here, like a TV or an Apple smartphone due to import taxes.

Really well done video, as an immigrant I feel represented in many of those feelings. Emigrating is definitely not for everyone, an idealized thought that probably won't come true. The important thing at all times is, regardless, to love the country that somehow welcomes us or the one we have chosen to emigrate to. If the balance indicates that it is better to return or change countries, pack our bags and move forward in search of what we want, for us and our children.

I don't understand. You want international schools but don't want to pay??? You want all social benefits but you don't want to contribute???? You're annoyed with local life-style yet expect them to carry the burden for you and smile?? Apartments are not nice cause you can't afford the good ones? I admire the audacity.

And there are far too many Portugese tyrants in America. They come here and expect to dictate others lives. The conservative Portugese woman is a nightmare and so full of arrogance. The Potugese men here are no better. They let the women demean them and then go get drunk to drown their sorrows, come home and get the ever livin shite beat out of them by the wife. I would trade you any day.
