You can do it through a switch.aswell It's wired through a relay, and I've used the high beam wire on the loom from the light socket to switch in the light. I did a video on my channel on it,. Have a watch. If you're stuck, let me know. I'll tag more info on it in another video. 👍
LED are good when you have the right headlight. You have a reflective headlights which only work with halogen in terms of light projection and beam pattern. If you upgraded your lights to the projector lense you'll find the beam pattern is perfect and provides concentrated light that projects properly.
I think the problem with LED's is I think you need the correct headlight with the insert to deflect the light pattern correctly and I don't think the Vivaro Headlights has the correct insert. I've removed the Standard 60/55w H4 and put in 100/80w H4 bulbs, its the same ones we use to use in our Sierra rally car and they work great..
Is there something odd on these vans? It wasn't good, it was like a floodlight, as you can see. I bet them other work well on your rally car, though. 👍 Very bright when you're blasting along. 👍
Chester can do without a few snacks, you ain't doing him any favours. Poor quality LEDs are possible fire hazards. and the beam pattern is usually appalling especially for other road users. They also degrade very quickly due to the heat they generate and the nature of LEDs and you are spot on, the lighting cables in the car are not designed to take the added heat and if they melt or burn your insurance may decline your claim.

Cycling home at night I am constantly blinded by LED headlights. Never have a problem with Halogen or even HID. Proablya lot of people fitting these retrofit LED lamps into their standard units.
Thats good 😕 at all, I couldn't believe how bad these were, I'd never use them if the car not made for them, far too dangerous, for others on the road, and cyclist like yourself
LED are good in the dark but we get a lot of fog in the peak district and i have found LED to be absolutely useless and make it harder to see than normal bulbs.

Those LEDs are illegal and rubbish because the LED is not in the correct position for the headlight reflector. Now if you pay a little more and buy H4 mini projector LEDs, they are fantastic and have a great beam pattern.

If you mount the resistors to the body, use some heat paste. It helps take some of the heat away
didn't know there was stuff called heat paste, but did see how hot there got wow that some heat under bonnet

Haven't seen any videos on just adding spot lights to theses vans. I'm thinking adding spots for use with the high beams

hi have you had the 100w bulbs in a while i was going to do the same but was peranoid of them getting too hot and melting the light

That interesting, so even tho they are brighter, they are not working as good as h4, Could that be down to the beam patten as well? i wonder 🤔

Classed as a modification so has to be declared to your insurance company.

Not for me Mark mate, I've had to do a canny few BCM's over the years with people putting these in, same with interior leds. Not worth the risk imo.
