- In this tutorial I show you how I tend to set up timecodes in After Effects when working on a project that uses many pre-comps, so it's super easy to navigate everything.

Here's a nice use-case scenario I forgot to mention: You've got your Master comp on a timeline in Premiere Pro, but it's not starting at 00;00;00 in Pr. It's starting at 00;04;21. Just copy that timecode in point and paste it into the Master comp in After Effects. That way you can be frame-accurate when working between Ae and Pr. 🥸
Thank you so much. I have been struggling to get my head around precomp timecodes and this helped a great deal. Your lighting setup is bad-ass by the way!
Looking for a way to automate this... The subcomp should be able to detect where it is relative to it's parent TC and auto change the Start TC. . . This is teadious when you have a dozen comps each with 6-8 subcomps. Anybody who stumbles onto this please comment.
OHH DEARR LORRDD!!
I have been searching for dayss!, Posting it on reddit, asking people for help, everyone gave me crazy expressions that don't even work or simply too complicated for what I wanted...
THIS IS ALL I WANT!!! Simple as that!! can't believe I had to search for days!!!! You earned a sub my friend! GRATEFUL, you don't know how much hours you have saved me!!!
PS: If anyone out there is searching for this for syncing purposes, let me tell you, there is also a plugin called "Universal Audio" that will just put your Voice-over/Audio into every nested comp (Super Handy) because I have searched for that too in the past couple of days, hopefully this will help someone!
An even easier way to fit a new pre-comp with assets is to trim the beginning and end of your work area. Timecode then gets updated automatically.
Thank you, very useful!
thanks for this great vid! whats the keyboard you use? looks great!
It's a Logitech G413 Carbon
Clean projects are essential when working in a team-environment. Thumbs-up!
