I loved your previous ace videos, and seeing this really answers that constant debate over how this plane was so effective during ww2, while being so big and heavy.
The P-47 is such an iconic plane and I had my doubts that I was going to be able to perform in it. But, if you fly it as intended, it is hard to beat! And I'm glad you enjoyed my other video! :)
It was a beaut for sure only reason the US started using P-51s for escort was due to the 47 being a better option for Ground strike missions then building a designated attacker
Dunno if that is still the case but back then the P-47 was hilariously undertiered. It was fighting BF 109 E-3s, F-2s and early Fw 190 Antons. ANd judging by the enemy types you shoot down this is still the case. The 47 is hilariously good against these comparatively slow aircraft. The average war thunder joe just fails to exploit that.
It is the same now. The latest Bf 109 that they use at BR 3.7 is the F-2. You're right. If you can figure out how to fly the P-47, you can pretty much choose every engagement. You can catch and run away from everyone.
.50 Cals aren’t modeled properly in game. If you watch American Gun Cam Footage you’ll see a one second burst of 50s cause ammo detonations (not coded in WT), instant fires, wings snapping off, etc.
I respectfully disagree. In my opinion the AN/M2 .50-caliber machine gun seems to be pretty balanced with respect to other similar weapon systems such as the 12.7mm Berezin UB or other equivalent machine guns. The Axis heavy machine guns such as the German 13mm MG131, Italian Breda-SAFAT, or the Japanese Ho-103 are a bit different because they have explosive bullets and their damage mechanics are correspondingly slightly different and they shouldn't be directly compared to the M2 which relies mostly on armour piercing and incendiary effects for damage. As far as being modeled properly... With good solid hits, you get good solid results, including ammo detonations (which are coded in WT but are fairly rare as they would have been in real life), instant fires (depending on where you hit and whether the target has protected fuel tanks or not, and even structural failures although that obviously takes numerous concentrated hits. Perhaps you need to improve your aim? The M2 -50-cal is a great weapon, and although the 20mm or 30mm cannons obviously do more damage with single hits (as it should be), planes with .50-cals usually benefit from higher number of guns as well as higher ammo counts so you can fire longer and score more hits.
I agree. My guns did cause a lot of critical damage which mean the enemy was unable to keep up so they aren't that bad. I'm used to cannons just exploding my enemies. And it could be that in this game, I didn't hit any of the parts that causes plane to explode. Like the fuel tank.
@@HerraTohtori You’d be incorrect. Gaijin has stated that the ingame model has been weaker than it should be. Especially the incendiary rounds, they are barely correct and only cause fires with direct impacts. The M20 belt should shred targets. Don’t go saying my aim is bad either, I’ve sprayed targets for a good 3-4 seconds and the rounds would do little damage compared to other 50 cals.
@@ice1fy What other heavy machine guns are you comparing the M2 with? The axis MG's, as mentioned, use very different ammo types to augment their damage output (usually because Axis aircraft had much fewer machine guns than US aircraft did). Also, for what it's worth, if you're hitting something with 3-4 second burst with heavy machine gun (even just one), and not doing significant damage, you're not hitting the target in the right place. Armor-piercing incendiary bullets are not some kind of magical explosive shells. They penetrate armour and have an incendiary effect that can cause fires if they end up in contact with flammable vapours, and even then there is a big difference between protected (self-sealing) fuel tanks and unprotected fuel tanks. Fires are simply not a guaranteed outcome, and just looking at some gun camera footage isn't valid evidence because you don't have the entire data set at your disposal so you can't make any kind of informed statement about the frequency of fires as a result of hitting enemy aircraft. The videos you've seen may easily have been selected specifically because of the particularly impressive results make for better propaganda than 99 videos about planes getting shot and pilot bailing from seemingly intact aircraft, and one video about the enemy plane bursting into a visible fireball. As for Gaijin's statements, I would very much want to see a link to that. From my standpoint, the AN/M2 stands to scrutiny and has pretty reasonable performance right now. It's a deadly weapon system and for some reason I'm not having the problems you mentioned.

P-47 is not that good in this game 😬
It sits in BR 3.7 where it is pretty strong in terms of speed.
If you fly it right you can choose every encounter. In my opinion ;)
Is it 3.7 in sim? Pretty sure that p-47 is like 5.0 in RB and gets torn to shreds
@make1up726 I looked it up. This one is in BR 4.3 in sim. It goes up against bf 109 F which it outspeeds.
I never play RB really so I have no idea how it is there.
I usually play RB, it's higher there and you get run down by so many things it really doesn't have an advantage now in that mode. Also try the ground belts on the .50s they seem to do more reliable damage even though they don't start fires as easy.
Yeah I have noticed ground belts feels better. Good tip!
