I just dicovered you, and I'm so thankful for the info! I'm super happy to see that you actually DO answer to comments. I live in GA zone 8A. I'm wondering if it's ok to cover these beauties and leave them on the porch in cold temps. I would LOVE to be able to enjoy them - they're simply gorgeous, but moving them in and out when the planter is full of soil and quite heavy might be problem.

What are the local characteristics of hibiscus cultivation🥺
Hi Florida neighbor! Leaving on the porch in a real strong cold front in 8a will probably shock a "tropical" hibiscus and she might not recover, even with plastic. Maybe consider adding her into decorative pot that you can move inside / garage during the cold fronts and bring back out after? You can also get wheeled plant dollies to place underneath the pot to help mover her more easily. Hope this helps. 😀🪴

Hi, in Miami, the average cultivation ( growing conditions) of hibiscus is: Annual high temp-84 degrees/ annual low avg- 70 degrees/ days with precip- 128/ annual hours of sun- approx 3,000 hrs/ annual precip volume-62 inches. Hope this helps 😀🪴

Hi there, I we like a 12-6-8 for overall growth and vigor (in Sept/ Feb/Mar) and the add in orgainc bloom booster fertilizer (we like Dr Earth) 3-9-4 in May and July. Hope this helps.😀🪴

Hi! thank you for the great video. could you recommend a loamy potting soil that would be good?
Hi there! Here is a good soil mix for hibiscus:
3 parts potting soil
1 part peat moss
1 part perlite
1 part sand
1 part worm castings
I would also mix in a little bit of native soil back around the plant so she gets used to the existing soil. 😀🪴
I live in coastal GA zone 8b. They do great here too. My got leggy over the last season. But it still flowers like mad. Could you discuss pruning it? Its beautiful leaves are so sparse. Btw it is in full light. I garden in Savannah btw
I will look into a pruning video. Thank you for the suggestion. But in mean time you could prune back leggy segments (after blooming cycle, but before fall weather, you want stem to harden up before cold).😀🪴
Trim them at the nodes and, Train them … they can be trained well a bit more effort but the more you put in the better the outcome especially when you have some good tops.
I love this video, it has a lot of info... My question is after I planted my 2 Tropical Hibiscus outside in the ground (Birmingham, Alabama Home) both producing beautiful red flowers, and adding Miracle Grow plant soil with the dirt all is well with both plants until the temperature went down in the higher 50s and some nights 60 the leaves have been turning yellow so my question will the winter months kill both plants or could I save them. I just bought 1 Hady Hibiscus a day ago and should I do up one of the Tropical Hibiscus PLANTS AND PLANT THE HARDY ONE OR WAIT UNTIL OR A LITTLE BEFORE SPRING? Thanks for ANY HELP.
Please wait until spring to plant. Hibiscus is quite sensitive to cold.😀🪴

I got the last multicolored one that you showed at Lowes and they call it Fiesta. It is absolutely stunning.I have two yellow with red centers and they've stopped blooming but the foliage is healthy. I'm waiting for Dr Earth tropical palm and hibiscus fertilizer. Can you please tell me the meaning of applying the it carefully? How much for the size of plant and container that you have? Thank you for the video.
Hi, on applying fertilizer amounts, you need to check what the manufacturer has on the bag's label. As a rule of thumb, with organic,(dr earth) it's a low npk amount so it won't burn roots and you will only need a light dusting ( small handfull, for a 3 gallon container plant. But again, check label. On applying it carefully, we need to be careful in applying fertilizer so it doesn't wash accidentally into nearby waterways and create algae blooms. But orgaince is low dose so its much safer to use! Hope this helps.😀🪴
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Thank you for commenting, I just saw it since l'm back, now that I've bought more because in my 7a/b Virginia winter killed them. I'll be planting all in fabric grow bags and wondering if there's any difference in soil recipe I should use when planting? I have Dr. Earth Flower Girl and various Espoma and Jacks fertilizers. Which would you use and I'm also making a banana peel tea since I've read hibiscus love high potassium. What do you think about that idea? Anyway, great video with a plethora of information. I fully heartily agree about the algae blooms and so glad you mentioned it. Our ECO system is so important. Thank you again.

Hi! I can't find it now too. But you can substitute in Dr earth flower girl bloom and bud booster 3-9-4, a similar rationto the 3-15-10, but flower girl is a bit lower in concentration (which is still fine) . Here is the link:

You are welcome! One more thing i want to mention with your fertilizers, if you notice over time that your hibiscus is doing great and flourishing you can hold back an application of the fertilizers for a couple of months, these are pretty hardy plants. 😀🪴

I know right? Ughh, I think I'm cursed sometimes, i cant tell you how many times I have to deal with stuff like that as well as Windy days... all that rustling background winds noise is such a pain to try to edit out... It's a curse I tell you! hahaha. 😀🪴
My wife & i see hibiscus flourishing all over Florida but cannot seem to get ours to do anything but barely survive here in Brevard county. Gardeners say how easy they are yet. if anyone has advise please reply.🌺🤨🤔😖😢

@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN plenty of full sun, typical mostly sand central florida soil. perhaps the need more attention we water but not sure if we fertilize enough & i have noticed plants struggling when someone is eating the leaves.
I would step up your fertilizing efforts, especially with sandy soils. And I am not sure if you get iguanas up there, but they eat hibiscus flowers/leaves like crazy. Hope this helps.😀🪴
@@LETSGROWGARDENDESIGN Could be we just havent been able to get past the maturity or size where the plant can sustain much leave loss. we have lots of little iquana guys. sounds like we need to take better care as far our hibiscus place on the food chain. FEED the plant. dont feed the plant to the critters. 😄thanks!
What's the palm plant in the background pls?
Hi, those are actually Areca palms. Botanical name- Dypsis lutescens or previously identified as Chrysalidocarpus lutescens. They are very easy to grow, medium size palm ~16' ht, likes to grow in multi trunk fashion, in that she forms many trunks from the base. I like growing them in part shade under a big tree, it allows her leaves to attain this light green color, but she can handle full sun too, but know that her leaves might get a little yellowish green in color in that grow environment.
Watch out for Iguanas! They love eating my Hibiscus plant in South Florida. May need to find another type of flower that is Iguana tolerant.
Oh yes, Iguanas destroy hibiscus. They are a growing problem. But I know some folks have told me that their dogs have helped chase them out of their yard.😀🪴

How do you trim them to grow them into a hedge together?
Hi there! Plant them aproximately 2.5 ' apart. And maintain them once they grow together in a trapezoid-like shape; thinner on top and wider at base. This shape allows for more light to reach the sides of hibiscus hedge and will encourage more blooming.😀🪴

Why would you record a video with all that music playing in the background so nobody can hear you
I wanted to get a hibiscus video uploaded since we were getting a lot of requests about the plant, and timing is everything, that day was a background sound mess, a bummer for me too since i spent hours in editing to try and reduce that noise, but......regardless, I will be doing future videos on hibiscus in better sound environment. They are too beautiful for just one video and so many varieties! 😀🪴
