Saying a lot...yet saying nothing! I'm really sorry, although Lassner's press conference told us nothing of the AD's dismissal. If it's was a matter of goals not being met, how is that a privacy matter. He reduced travel expenses for visiting teams, as many teams were opting out from playing U.H. He charted flights for the football team, as the trouble and expense for commercial travel was getting to be outrageous. He brought on board Nike, and helped bring a major donor on board for another additional $600,000.00. If these things were contrary to Lassner's vision, he should just say so. Other than letting rumors spread about a dismissal from a 'state position'. perhaps someone can get hold of and release the benchmarks for the expectations of the AD, from early 2023. On a slightly related note, it sucks that the end of the year and the holiday season is about the same time of the year. As many companies layoff and terminate employees at the end of the year, this makes for a depressing holiday season.
Those were a lot of great accomplishments and Angelos should be proud, even if he's not going to be around to see the fruits of his labor. I'm not sure if we'll ever know the reasoning related to poor performance. But being an at-will employee doesn't give him much safety.
At this point, Lassner needs to provide some transparency because the risk of not doing so is too big. I haven’t seen people around UH athletics so unified since Colt was QB. When there’s this much backlash across the board and donors pulling out, it’s basically criminal to not provide an explanation with actual substance. Your example of the person who came in trying to help with housing is a great example and we know that type of thing happens all the time. In this case though, it’s extremely public and super shady, and it acts as a huge red flag blowing in the trade winds to any serious future AD or coaching candidate, student athlete, potential donor, etc.
Perhaps if more donors pull out, UH may have to speak up and provide more justification to this move. I think the big sports are okay. It's the other sports that need the additional funds that may feel the effects.

Hey Chris, remember June Jones and the success he had. He attracted a lot of great athletes and people who supported the athletic program. When ADs and coaches get paid MORE than a university president, it's obvious the priorities of higher education are corrupted.
I remember that there was this phrase "the price of paradise" when things cost so much more compared to the mainland. It reflects a local attitude that's a bit close-minded and not open to new and better ideas. Folks just accept that things are expensive. There are many large, D1 universities across the country that don't have football programs. Long Beach State, UC Irvine, Boston University, Creighton University, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, DePaul University, Gonzaga University, George Washington University, Grand Canyon, Hofstra University, Marquette, St. John's, UC Riverside, Loyola Marymount, Northeastern University, Pepperdine, and others.
They all seem to be doing fine.
It's too bad that you didn't attend a game as a student. While academics and research are the primary reasons for universities, I think athletics are part of the college experience and culture.
@@HelloFromHawaii I believe sports is part of the high school experience and aides in the development of children and teens. I lettered in two sports in high school and enjoyed it very much. However, college is for adults and college sports is nothing more than a "factory" for professional sports. Sadly, instead of the billionaire team owners picking up the tab, students are paying for it in the way of student fees and lost resources. When ADs and coaches get paid MORE than a university president, it's obvious the priorities of higher education are corrupted.
Hawaii need a public private venture to build stadium
We don't need a stadium.
That's an interesting topic for a video 😆
I remember that there was this phrase "the price of paradise" when things cost so much more compared to the mainland. It reflects a local attitude that's a bit close-minded and not open to new and better ideas. Folks just accept that things are expensive. Look at the rail and other things in Hawaii -- no ferry system or push to get rid of the Jones Act and these shipping monopolies, etc. The underinvestment in the University of Hawaii and state economy -- it's bad. There's no real industry outside of cheap labor tourism or the military. That's why a lot of young kids move away.
I think he was going to fire Timmy Chang so Lassiter fired him
As far fetched as this seems, it might have some traction. Chang was handpicked for the job even over other more qualified applicants. They even tried to make June Jones babysit him for a few years to make the transition better but atones wasn’t having it. If this AD now wanted to fire him because let’s face it the football team hasn’t been very good during the Chang era, he might have ruffled some of those feathers that picked him.
That would have been an interesting reason. It's going to take time for Coach Chang to turnaround the team and build a winning culture.
Fired for DEI
I don't think so. Seems like for other reasons.
Ad did great job stupid by fired president don’t make cents
I think that's why it caught people off guard.
shady
We'll see what comes out of this.
They found out he voted for Trump
That doesn't matter in Hawaii. It's always blue.

Time to go back to the mainland.
Haole boy anyway
I don't think that has anything to do with it.
