    I agree with everything you said. I hope and think an expansion could fix a lot of the issues mentioned, but the story cards are why I like this game so much. If Elder Sign did something like that, I would love Elder Sign even more... maybe it’s time for Elder Sign second edition.

      Great call! The narrative progression is a nice touch.

    Great video. I love the X-Men theme, but after your review and Colin’s play through, this is a hard pass.
    Appreciate all the awesome info you guys share!

      Yeah, I was hoping for more from this one.
      Come on Marvel Champions, gimme my X-Men!!

    the bond cards kind of broke the game for me, they feel like they limit pairing choices on both sides of the card.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup! Cool theme, but leads to even fewer choices, which is rough in a game that already doesn't have a ton.

    so.... recomended or not?
    I still wish to have a solo marvel game but something that I won't need a lot of expansions :S

      Well, Colin ditched his copy to me, and I'm ditching the copy too... so not recommended if your tastes align with mine! But others might enjoy it.

      Marvel game without expansions ;-; they make too much money. But if you can feel good about just the Marvel Champions big boxes, I feel like just the core is a ton of play, red skull and the gurdians box also over a ton of play per dollar.
      The bad things about expansions for MC you can tell yourself is that a lot of the characters you can buy are broken (quicksilver can one hit the boss, doc strange and wanda are very very overpowered to the core box heroes)

    Excellent review. I'm getting a little tired of superheroes, to be honest. If the only value is in seeing story arcs realized, I'll stay with Marvel Legendary.

      I generally agree, but there are games I’m jazzed to play more of.
      I’m excited about Hour of Need delivering, and Union City Alliance that just finished on KS.
      Oh, and I’m cautiously interested in the new edition of Sentinels of the Multiverse, though I already own most of it...

    I really want to want this game, as odd as that sounds, but even the people who talk about liking it almost sound like they’re trying to convince themselves as much as me. Do you think it’s likely a variant or some house-ruling might improve the game, or is it too far gone for that?

      I don't think it would be that hard to make it BETTER. Would that make it really good though? I'm not so sure.
      For example, the first change I would make right away is making the yellow and red difficulty spaces always active, regardless of your current threat level. That should fix the "every mission is too easy to complete" problem, and make turns a bit more tense again.

    That was really very informative and helpful, thanks a bunch Mike!!
    Would you rather recommend it to X-Men fans for solo or coop play, though? Downtime wouldn't be a con in solo play..

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, probably solo 3-handed, or co-op 2-handed (each controlling 2, for 4 characters each). I think that would be the ideal for interaction while reducing downtime

    One of my biggest problems with the game was the characters they put in or didn’t put in. Some made no sense while others that should be here aren’t.

      What do you mean??? You don't like ARMOR!?!?!?!
      (just kidding, totally agree!)

    • @victorgonzalez2927

      @@OneStopCoopShop Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Bishop would be better suited than Armor, Magik, and X-23 or Domino.

      @@victorgonzalez2927 I'm sure in FFG's mind they were saving popular characters for the expansion... that I assume will never come, based on this game's reception :)

      With so many mutants some fans are bound to be disappointed whatever the mix of included characters

    Hard to believe that Elder Signs production values would put this game to shame. Everything about this game looks cheap

      They have a Blackbird! A wonky cardboard Blackbird :)

    Great review! I hate Elder Sign for its randomness, and thus I probably dislike this game.

    • @OneStopCoopShop
      @OneStopCoopShop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that would be likely, though this one DOES have more mitigation, for better or worse.

    • @b.c.eckhoff3495
      @b.c.eckhoff3495 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This one has so much mitigation that it makes the game almost too easy most of the time. So I wouldn’t worry about that.
