Tbh probably not. The only reason I could see bringing out the original is if I was playing a 4-player game - there are more characters and more things to manage. But even then, I'm not sure I'd want to go back to the old turn system
Thanks for your review. This game and its predecessor looks really interesting with the thematic story and exploration. If I get one, it would be this one for its more streamlined play. I think I would consider this game for solo play. It might be a bit challenging to get others to play because it’s so different than most board games.
I just finished the original sleeping gods solo (second play through. First time I played with 4 players) and I loved it! Saw this sequel on sale for prime day and ordered it. Very excited to see how streamlined it is.
Very subjective, but i found it very much worth it myself playing solo. Voice acting and sound effects are top quality. I’d probably appreciate it even more multiplayer cuz I know i don’t do the narrative justice trying to read it aloud, haha.
Hmm i don’t know about easier. I find the game more punishing since you can’t just go to a market and heal everything- and camping doesn’t help that much.
the game is truly great, but the replayability is really bad. i've finished the game once and we found and awakened over half of the totems in the whole game. we also found and beaten 7 bosses and we found over 7 passengers to bring back. in total our game took 28hours and the game end without spoilers was anticlimactic to say the least. we had no control over the end of the game whatsoever and we couldnt decide anything.
the official veteran mode variant might help since the game timer is tighter. I did my first play through on normal w/ veteran mode and got 6 totems and maybe 3 passengers. I also got a quest to trigger the end at anytime, so even without veteran mode it’s probably best to end when you have 5 totems or so rather than exploring and buffing up further, otherwise ya, ending will feel anticlimactic.
It sounds to me that you rushed the game and probably made some mistakes that les you to skip important areas and cards. You should have read the rulebook again before beginning and play the game with patience to fully understand it.
Just picked this up myself...had enough store credit to walk out of my local gaming store with it! Can't wait to play it with the wife.
Can’t wait to play this game
It's worth it if you can get your hands on it!
So is there ever a point you would bring out the original? I’m super excited for this one and peril
