    Can you explain. Why Levi jeans are of such poor quality now?
    I bought my first Levis back in 1971. And they would stand up on their own. And would last years. Used as every day jeans.
    For work or just out & about.
    But in latter years. They split at the knee after only 2 years. Recently I bought 2 pairs if LVC 505,s and they were no better. Within 2 years of casual wear, they split at the knee & the pockets fell out! Absolutely rubbish!! I only ever bought Levis. But never again. Lee rider selvedge a far superior. What have Levi changed & why?
    I feel they are peddling junk, on the strength of their past reputation.

      Hi, I can't. Was the 505 with a wash or rigid? It might the oz size of the denim too. Maybe Lee's are thicker? You should try some of those crazy 21oz Japanese denim jeans. Those should take a while to wear through?

      The 505,s were LVC selvedge raw drnim.
      I thought. Great! At last. They have started producing the real deal again, all be it at a premium. But they just fell apart within 2 years. Back in the 70,s a pair if Levis would stand up on their own. Even the LVC can't do that. I'm afraid Levis are just peddling junk on the strength or their past reputation.

      Levi's used to use high quality denim that used the perfect medium weight. Now Levi's uses lightweight poor quality denim that isn't soft on the skin. Levi's has to prefade at the factory because the denim no longer fades beautifully. In the search for the lowest production cost, Levi's discarded use of quality denim. Levi's lost its culture and doesn't care about its legacy. It is that simple.

    Thank you for teaching me something new about Levi's. One of my last surviving pair of Levi's shrink to fit from back in the day (1980s/1990s) are pale blue now. They are also shortened to mid-calf. When I was a teenager we bought our jeans off the open shelves at Miller's Outpost. The calculation for shrink-to-fit was two inches larger in the waistline and one inch longer in the legs--wash to wear ratio was one to three, the jeans took a year to soften and two years to start fading. In the mid 1970s/early 1980s my friends and I also bought Levi's from a vendor at the Rose Bowl swap meet in Pasadena, all of the jeans they sold were Levi's seconds. In the mid-late 1990s my Levi's were bought used from Aardvark Vintage in Pasadena: There was a big table of Levi's arranged by size in the back of the store that were priced according to wear. Twenty dollars bought a nicely faded pair with no tears or repairs. Most of my jeans died in the past three years so I bought new modern pairs, all shrink to fit. I miss those tall shelves and tables full of new and used Levi's. 😉
    PS: I sew. In our home dead jeans are cut up and recycled into purses, patches, or zippered bags , etc.

      If only we knew to buy and hoard jeans from back in the day. You can still find 90's 501's at the thrift store, but even they are few and far between and usually never the size you want.

  • @drwisdom1
    @drwisdom1 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Back in the 1990s when Levi's Vintage Clothing (LVC) got started they used really good dark denim and made decent replicas of earlier jeans. Now they are just pre-faded with fake wear like average Levi's 501s but with a premium price.

      I bought my first "new" pair from them this year after about 10 years, so I'll see how they hold up. Just buy the Raw denim to be sure.

    Hey you should look at the LVC tshirts (1950s with the pocket) very cool I have a few as well as Eastman WW2 tshirts. Pricey but great. No side seam. Done on original machines from the 20s or 30s.

      I have looked at them, but they are sooo expensive for a t-shirt! I know they're great though, hopefully I can find a used one to try it out.

    Hey derek should ı wash my jeans

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. It really depends on the jeans. If they're really dirty or smelly then yes. If not, I'd just keep wearing them. If they're brand new, just give them a soak, not a wash.

    • @drwisdom1
      @drwisdom1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, regularly. People have been wearing jeans for over 100 years. Not washing jeans is a kooky modern fad like wearing your hat backwards.

    I got a pair of Levi's jeans marked 1 out of 3 I can't tell if they are vintage or a reissue of a vintage line. I'm also wondering if you'd be interested in buying them since I no longer have room in my closet for them.

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Sounds like they're re-issued. Original jeans wouldn't be numbered like they're limited editions. What size are they? If I can wear them, I'd be interested for sure.

      @ParmiJohn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derekdoeschannel The back side tag states they are 30 x 34 and I just measured them to make sure. I listed the precise measurement below. They are really cool because they have pockets on the thigh area, let me know if you're interested.

      Inseam: 34 inches
      Rise: 11 inches
      Leg opening: 18 inches

    Currently working on getting fades on a raw pair of 1947s have you experienced any heavy signs of crotch blowouts ?

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Sorry, no. I've never had a blowout. And I've worn many 47's over the years. Usually I wear out the pockets and cuff more than anything.

    I'm in England, i got a new pair of Levi's LVC 501 for Christmas, after inspecting them, i put them on eBay, made in Tunisia, absolute junk quality, compared to old USA made one's I've owned, I'll stick to Lee 101s which are amazing, got two pairs, and my Japanese Jeans, of which i own several pairs, Iron Hearts, PJBs, Sugar Cane and Oni. Come on Levi, get your act together and bring out some Quality item's, no wonder there are so many LVCs at Levi outlet stores this side of pond

    • @derekdoeschannel
      @derekdoeschannel  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I was worried about that too, luckily mine were made in the USA still. Maybe they just make certain models LVC in the US? No issues with any Japanese premium brand, always great.
