    Norrine, I have to confess. When I saw the title of this post, I almost skipped it. But then I said, "No, I always enjoys the videos Norrine does and they've helped me so much." ROFL This was wonderful. It's all so, duh - why haven't I realized that? I have TWO of those stupid black and yellow monstrosities and they are EMPTY for exactly the reason you stated. Hahaha. Now they're used as an elevator - as in when I need to elevate something to work on it. I had dozens of different clear boxes when I was teaching. I was tempted to get rid of them but instead I just stacked them in my garage. That was 2 years ago. Since I've been slowly getting my house organized, I'm down to just two bundles of shoeboxes! I too love banker boxes but only when seeing what's inside isn't important. The many teacher supplies that will go into a garage sale soon are in a dozen or so of those and stacked 6 feet high with no danger of collapse. Since I'm almost out of containers I'm glad to have your system in my head now, so I don't spend silly as I begin to need more. Keep up the great work. Sorry I doubted you, Norrine.

    Great video, Norrine! I have gotten a lot of bins from Michaels because they had the blush color. Well, not any more. Now I get the clear ones and spray paint the lids. Everything is labeled, but I want all my bins to be of a similar color, so paint is a great option. Thanks.

    I was nodding at every suggestion you made. Some things I learned from trial & plenty of error and some from things you have said in past videos. What I love about you most is everything is common sense if you think about it before acting. That is one of the most valuable things I have learned from you.Through all my clean out/downsizing efforts, I have also used plastic entree containers that I have and since they were extras I was going get rid of them. When organizing my tea & coffee supplies, I first emptied the tea bags from the boxes they came in. I sorted by black tea and herbal. I used containers that I already had such as the plastic entree containers and now everything is nice and neat and on one shelf instead of two. I labeled everything & finding what I want is no longer a hassel.

    Hi Norrine! I hesitated to use the locker bins in the back of my almost 24” deep cabinets bc there was unused space in front & I don’t want to see chaos not captured in a bin… Suddenly your voice said “try dropping the shelf gain space for one more set & put a second bin in front!” I did AND OMG, I’d considered it but knew they were a tad too long but wait, yes they do slightly overhang but the cabinets doors still close! There’s an unused gap between the two bins but I can live with it.
    THANK YOU❣️
    (I’d send a pic but can’t figure out how…)

    Great video! I love the clear plastic containers at Costco with the latch lids. I have Ikea cube shelving units in my sewing studio and two plastic containers fit perfectly in each cube. My fabric is put into a container by color, project or theam. I fold everything the same way and place the fabric into the containers file style. I place a small number on the end and in a note book I have 1 to 50. 14 is Valentine, 24 to 27 Christmas and so on.

    A couple of weird ones I use are a candy tin from the thrift store for small cube inks and a big beach bag for my yarn and they're in ziplocs inside it. Another is the old drawers and bins from my last refrigerator. They're very similar in size to the fancy die and stamp storage you can buy.

    You've given me more ideas 💡 I got scrapbook paper bins for my 12x12 papers to organize them by season or theme. I like the idea of using ziplock bags to further organize within a bin, especially small items like stickers or embellishments. That will be helpful going forward. I'm still not done organizing. I'm on hold right now bcz my life has switched to caregiver for now. Thank you for your videos.... you help keep me grounded. I can watch one of your videos, even if I've seen it before, to relax 💞 I'm the type who organizes in my head before I do it anyway. Lol 💕

    I don't/won't use open bins. Our house is like a sieve when it comes to dust. No matter how much we're sealed up, fine powdery dust somehow gets in & I'm always dusting. I now keep everything enclosed & labeled. I used to use DT shoe boxes but agree with you 1000% about their quality; they were always cracking or breaking. I use some sterlite storage & the rest is from Costco, with everything labeled. The only weird storage I have is a few extra long containers for my holiday florals so I don't have to twist/bend them to make them fit into the smaller containers.

I use them for seasonal clothing, extra toiletries, seasonal decorating items. I use the medium size in my lower kitchen cabinets to act as a pull out drawer, I saw that on a previous video of yours and it works wonderfully. Your advise always improves my life.

    I actually love the black and yellow containers. I use them to store my empty mason jars in. I can a lot during the summer and they stack well empty. I label each with what jars are inside and keep all the same type in one container. They keep jars from getting dusty or filled with bugs. I also use the same containers for camping supplies.

    • @nnylasoR
      @nnylasoR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you use the giant ones, or the “half size” ones? I prefer the half size, as the contents and weight ultimately end up more manageable. The big ones just hold TOO MUCH for me to handle.😅

    • @QuzieSuzieQ
      @QuzieSuzieQ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nnylasoR I use both sizes. I prefer the large for storage since I have a lot of jars. I typically grab what I need and leave the tote in it’s place.

    • @mrsp5713
      @mrsp5713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, camping supplies and things like that are probably appropriate. I do value though that Norrine pointed out that they get super heavy when stuffed with clothes.
      And some people aren’t labelers so out of sight is out of mind and then you’re guessing what’s in each when you can’t see through them. I think it’s all relative and valuable to each unique situation. 🙋🏻‍♀️ have a great day.

    I LOVE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I subscribed because I needed help for storage of my craft supplies since I’m COMPLETELY redoing my closet. I always learn so much. Most organizing videos don’t talk about organizing craft supplies. Or if they organize craft supplies along with my clothing in my master closet., it’s not practical. You combine BOTH. I have recently tossed to the donate pile all my baskets. I have opted for clear shoe boxes for my small categories (these fold and open on the ends). Then the cube storage boxes for larger categories . I REFUSE to keep any box that does not fold flat when not in use. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I had a whole closet of empty baskets. Because I never knew what to keep in them or how to organize stuff.
    And btw the velveta cheese boxes are AWESOME for drawer storage. I collect the bigger ones and the smaller packages of it. They are great to use from kitchen to garage to bathroom drawers plus they work inside the boxes also. This is a unique channel so THANK YOU!!

    The opaque containers (like the black and yellow ones) are good for long term storage (like camping stuff or Christmas/Holiday decor) that you only need on specific occasions. They're heavy, but you only move them now and again. But you have to label them so you don't take your Christmas ornaments to the campsite! Oh...and if you have an RV, they're great for storing the tank emptying apparatus. Make sure you label THAT bin too.

    Hi Norrine...I just had to jump in here because I have those huge black and yellow totes. I got mine at Costco. Yes they hold a lot but to start they are heavy. Mine are in a storage space (😖ugh). I would put one down, fill it and then stack another on top and so on. But not too high. I am hoping to have a craft room when I get a new place. So I will now continue your video and hopefully learn how to organize it. Thank you. 🥰. Ok...I'm back... I love your suggestions. I did get some of those paper boxes from my local Staples...they sold them for $1.00. Then they stopped. Don't know why. 🤷‍♀️ Once I get my house sold and get a new place I want to get it organized from the start. I will have to watch when house shopping...my daughter bought what we thought was great storage in the kitchen for a pantry...until we started to fill them. Three stacked cabinets that are deep. Small locker boxes or totes in the lower two but the top one? She will need a step stool. How to utilize it to the best possible use is a mystery. Thank you for all your very helpful videos. God bless! 🙏🥰

    Another Amazing Video Girl!
    Not going to lie I bought those black with yellow lids containers from Costco, 4 of them.
    My husband of 32 years age 52 fit and healthy passed due to this deadly epidemic.
    I needed the containers to stored his collection of figures and comic books in the attic.
    Until I can deal with selling it.
    I’ve used your recommendation for storing 12 by 12 papers in Sterilite Ultra Latch 30 QT containers and Jumbo Ziplocks Bags too. Plus input on organizing craft space and so much more.
    Blessings Girl!

    Hi Norrine. I just purchased some Dollarama bins with latch tops that are the “perfect” size for a file folder to lie flat. “Clippy” by Plastico. $4. I just wish they had some twice as high.

    I found a great sale on containers. I bought several thinking they would be great to put items in to carry from said area to my crafting area. Idea was great. (Handles on top plus it had a tray inside.) Only it didn't work as planned. Lesson learned. I now only use legal size boxes. This is my perfect size I can easily carry. I only use see through plastic for every day things. Other wise I do cardboard boxes. Exception would be seasonal decorations. Christmas, Easter and so on. Those are plastic see through. When I use them, I add a year sticker to the case. This way I know I can do without if not used yearly.

    I try in my spaces not to use plastic storage. I try to us packaging where I can. I love using old VHS tape boxes in my sewing boxes not my small storage. They work brilliantly. I use old level arch folders cut up to store my fabric on wrapped round. I love looking at something and work out how I could use it differently.

      I agree - reusing packaging and avoiding plastic where possible is a must 👍 I have turned cereal boxes into magazine files, covered in wallpaper ❤ And also cardboard shoe boxes covered in wrapping paper look fab.

    Hi Norrine, it's been quite a while since I've watched your channel. Been unwell and getting assistance sorted out. Thanks for this video, it's just what I need. I'm moving soon again and this has helped me tremendously with what storage tubs to get that will be useful after the final move.I will be catching up on all the videos I missed over the coming weeks. Thanks heaps.

    I saw a bunch of those yellow and black tubs on sale a while ago. I thought about it but passed them by with the idea I'd keep them in mind. You're right though. Once filled how in the world would I lift them without help? I didn't know that they make food storage bags in 2.5 gallon size! I need some larger bags like that to store bulk items in my freezer. Thanks, Norrine :)

    Hi, Norrine! I don’t need new containers yet-still decluttering.
    Will you be adding links to the different containers you mentioned? Some of the sizes were hard to read, and I’m not familiar with the dimensions of the various gallon sizes. It would have been helpful for the insert pictures to contain you (or any person), so I could get a better idea of the actual sizes.
    If I ever need more boxes, I can come back to this video. Thanks for the tips!!!

    Awesome!! I use a lot of what you mentioned . I have 32 of the cloth bins for my yarn. They are situated on shelves just under the ceiling. And I have lower lever of yarn that i use the most. For journal making, I have them in the shoe boxes and three drawer squares I think they are 11/11 inches which hold all the little stuff LOL I also use the "pretty" boxes I have picked up on sale that hold bigger things like all my paints and brushes, or eyes and cute things for my amigarumi I use the clear starlight 56 gallon ones for holiday decorations out in the shed (no garage ;( ) However you game me some great ideas to further organize what I have in the bigger boxes and I love the idea with the zip lock bags!! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

    Thank You, your thoughts and ideas are so helpful. I totally agree about those huge black bins vs the sterlite ones you discussed. I do pose a question for you...I use certain products repeatedly that come in specific packages. I save them hoping to put them to use for storage. I like consistency rather than randomness. Examples: Protein powder canisters, 6"x"'x3" deep veggie bins , 2 lb oatmeal containers etc. Perhaps you could do a video about using recycled containers and still having an efficient and nicely done space.

    I have all my beads catagorised after color and I have free containers from the store were they sell candy. These containers have a smell of candy, but by putting bakeing soda or vinegaer in them before you wash them and use them, it takes all the candysmell away. They are also good for sugar and other baking surplies.. and much more, and they are free. 😃👍🏼👍🏼
