The MBTA Commuter Rail’s Holiday Trains: Extra Long and Extremely Rare Trains - December 2023

About this video: I hope viewers can forgive me for being so behind with my uploads, considering I’m still posting December 2023 videos in April of 2024. I have a lot of videos to post and it is important to me that I don’t rush through everything in order for each video to have time to get recognized and enjoyed. The clips in this video were shot in early December 2023 of MBTA’s multiple “Polar Express” operations. The first clips were taken in Braintree and Boston, MA of MBTA’s south side holiday train with GP40MC 1137, 10 coaches, and F40PH-3C 1065. The next videos were shot on the Newburyport Line in Ipswich, Rowley, and Hamilton, MA of MBTA’s north side Polar Express. It had HSP46 2017, GP40MC 1135, and 8 coaches. The final two clips were shot on the Lowell Line in Billerica and Wilmington, featuring a separate operation of the north side Polar Express - this time with HSP46 2012, GP40MC 1135, and 7 coaches.

I remember seeing the christmas train at south station, along with the acela one. Came as a complete surprise, but i got some cool photos!

I didn't know that the MBTA rolled out this during Christmastime now, was this the first year that they did this?

They have been running north side polar expresses for quite some time, they only skipped 2020 I believe. South side has done similar to what they did last year for at least a few years now

Yep, they called these polar expresses. Kind of makes it odd to have two separate ones though, haha
