So, the Switch loads as fast as the old NES, SNES, and Genesis cartridge based systems. In other words, there is no longer any advantage to using optical medium, save perhaps cost. If games load as fast from Micro SD, then downloaders could have entire libraries on a few 128 Gig chips....
Jacen 1 Yeah pretty much. Nintendo got flak for sticking with cartridges on the N64 because back then they cost more and couldn't store as much data as discs. But on the other hand load times were really fast, in some cases almost nonexistent. Now that cartridges are able to hold so much data, and because the speed of discs is so much slower, cartridges will (hopefully) become the main way to buy physical games (IF Sony/Microsoft's next consoles will make that change.) I am really looking forward to that, because cartridges are a lot harder to damage than discs, and take up less room.
Brandon Barefoot I hate discs especially preowned because they scratch soooooo easily and then they can get destroyed then you have to buy another disc and it's just one whole convoluted process. Thank god we may see the end of this garbage and finally get a reliable form of media. My SNES cartridges work better than my PS4 discs lol.
Micro SD are a little more expensive than blu rays tho, but i don't even know why they still sell blu rays when you must download patch which has double more GB than game itself...
GamingSage seriously. Within 20 seconds of him putting it in, he is playing. Unlike with Xbox and PS4 which take ages to download and then they usually require an update so that's a couple hours

All of the home consoles have the cartridge facing you, NES was hidden so doesn't really count but it still wasn't facing away from you, SNES faces you and N64 faces you, only the handhelds have it facing away from you

Thing is, the Wii, Wii U, and every PlayStation and Xbox EVER, used discs. Even on the PC games are either downloaded or on a disc which still results in downloads. Since PS4 and X1 it was also nessecarry to install games. A simple "Put in and play" was no longer possible either. See why people are freaking out? It's because none of the current gaming systems have something like that because they all rely on discs and installations, and imo I actually like cartridges more because they are less fragile. I mean, we all know how easily scratchable those discs are, or the fear of breaking them in half when trying to get them out of the case. I sure had that when I bought GTA 5.... for the PC..... 7 freaking discs + loads of update data.
I notice the game Icons stay after you remove the cart, Would like to know if the game Icons stay after you turn it off an on? Also it would be nice if you can install the game on a switch to play on the system with no cart for people who want the cart to collect, but still want to play multiple games on the go without carrying the carts around. Just a thought.
Hopefully, they'll have an update that let's you shrink the icons on your home screen, like on the 3DS. It makes more sense now with the high resolution.

1-2 Switch should have additional unlockable games that become available based on other games you own. For example, some bomb-related game based on Bomberman, a digging game based on Shovel Knight, etc. Maybe then it'd be worth the $50 price tag.
Can you play games without the cartridge in the slot? If so, I'm worried about piracy. If the vendor plugged in the cartridge into their system, could they give it to a friend or family so they can play it too? If it lets you use the same cartridge for different systems, then someone could make a living off of renting carts out to people, technically (which can be really bad for the sales of games on the Switch). If not, then companies like GameStop and others that sell used games and rent out the rest are going to have a big problem.
How the hell you get a hold on the Nintendo Switch when it's still February? Are the saves are done on the cartridges like in the old days or are the saves are on the HD? I think it would be cool to be able to play and save on the same cartridges.

You know, people are bashing the Switch for being less powerful than the PS4 or X1 but forget that PS4 and X1 games are usually 40-50 GB worth of files that need to be installed. 500 GB of storage for a PS4 isn't much when literally every AAA game you have has a filesize like that.

No real reason why they should be giving back the review copies. They're used, they can't be sold again by Nintendo. They wouldn't gain anything from getting them back. Besides, it's a win-win. The channels receive review copies for free, and Nintendo receives feedback as well as full control of what information about the Switch and its games the press and independent Nintendo related channels publish.
I don't understand why the game icons remain on the menu after you remove a game from the system. Do those stay there permanently, even after restarting the system?

Optical media is obsolete at this point. Most modern computers don't come with a optical drive unless you specifically ask for one.

Yep, that's about the average time a 1, 2 Switch catridge will be in your Switch before you take it out and never play it again.

Really glad that it saves the icon in the launcher for you. Was thinking that my launcher will be looking pretty bland for a while until i can buy more switch games. For now its BoTW, I am Setsuna, and probably Shovel Knight.

You know, people are bashing the Switch for being less powerful than the PS4 or X1 but forget that PS4 and X1 games are usually 40-50 GB worth of files that need to be installed.
500 GB of storage for a PS4 isn't much when literally every AAA game you have has a filesize like that.

No real reason why they should be giving back the review copies. They're used, they can't be sold again by Nintendo. They wouldn't gain anything from getting them back. Besides, it's a win-win. The channels receive review copies for free, and Nintendo receives feedback as well as full control of what information about the Switch and its games the press and independent Nintendo related channels publish.
Do you have to take out the Switch from the dock to insert a new game or are you doing it this way cause it's easier ? Just wondering about that :-)
I don't understand why the game icons remain on the menu after you remove a game from the system. Do those stay there permanently, even after restarting the system?
Are there ways to sort your games? Can I put them in folders or sort them, say, alphabetically?
why are the boxes for the game cartridges so huge compared to the actual cartridge? who needs a backpack when you can fit just about anything in all of that empty space
