These guys have been my "desert island band" since I was turned on to them by my jazz piano teacher back in 1993. Love to see the Yamaha YC-45D Kerry has to the left and plays during the bridge. I used to have one, plus an identical stack (deliberately, of course!) as his back in the day: Hammond organ down low, Wurlitzer electric piano in the middle, and a Claviinet D6 to top it off. (Then I built a shelf over the Clav and perched a Roland Juno 60 synth up high.) Happy days! Pugwash Weathers is my favorite drummer and probably biggest influence. Go Wales!
John Weathers. What a stunning drummer! If you watch a listen carefully, you will find that during the chorus (Two Weeks in Spain) he doesn't play after-beat snare on the 2 and the 4 but hits the snare on the 1 and the 3. And it's PERFECT.
I FIRST HEARD THIS TRACK IN 1978 . MY 30 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER RECENTLY GOT MARRIED THIS JULY 2023 AND SHE WENT TO SPAIN FOR TWO WEEKS I MUST HAVE PLAYED THIS SONG AND TO HER AND MY SON IN LAW A HUNDRED TIMES ..IT'S A ROUNDABOUT !
Two weeks in Spain makes the year disappear easy Two weeks in Spain, you forget, bored and yet weary We're back again, drink the wine, weather's fine, only Two weeks in Spain's not enough
1978 and what a sound !!!! What a group of course and what an amazing song, all is good, not boring or sad, like other prog can be with the years...... this band is alway very modern and in the time for 2020 !!!! Incredible ! My favorite prog group with Kansas. This guys are part of the human music history ....
Man these guys are just awesome..as a drummer watching this guy play with that commitment and laying it down.. love it... oh and the bass playing. Is any one else thinking David Brent LOL. Sooo good!
Have always liked Gentle Giant, but only just discovered this song, and it's so jaunty and fun! Prog Rock doesn't necessarily mean seriousness (except in musical terms). This makes me think of two weeks we did take in Spain in 2000. We were determined to NOT act like typical pissed-up Brits on the Continent, but we did have rather a fun time. First time I flew too! Thanks GG.🙂
+Jeff Smart @2:05 Kerrys little keyboard doodle sound much better in this concert then on the actual recording, it has that crystal pure and ethereal sound to it - best bit in my oppinion.
I saw them twice in a year. The second time they opened with this. Until that time I had disregarded the tune. Blown away is an understatement. The syncopation in the middle eight was not to be believed. ❤
My father was a NYC old school club date musician...played piano and trumpet for some 30 years with some of the most incredible jazz musicians in the country.....when I turned him onto Gentle Giant he was really impressed...blown away to say the least...the album was Free Hand..
:D i can agree, spain is really a beautiful country. Been there i think already more than 10 times. Specially the Mountains in Spain are absolutely gorgeous!
Back in 1978 we bought a 'Prinzsound' radio/cassette recorder from Dixons. That night GG were in concert on the radio and I taped the whole thing and played it till the tape wore out - this was my favourite track
Yep absolutely agree with you a gazillion% my ultimate hero and favorite musician ever along with keery minnear. Gentle giant is/was the greatest most epic legendary genius band ever.
I am sure BTS has their own charm but these guys!! I love this band of awkwardly dressed GUYS! Their more adventurous songs are cool but I also love their later, more groovy(?) tunes too. If I were a rock musician, I'd be dressed and play like Ray, the bassist. But every giant was and is awesome!
Very niche, can understand why they weren't widely known, as opposed to Jethro Tull with a more accessible sound, but this is definitely a niche I enjoy, very funk influenced, could almost be prog-hop
Catchy song, funky even, but it would have been nice if the keyboards had been replaced by guitars... I remember this song from ca. '78 .I think my aunt had this album...
Dave McEvoy Try a listen to the Rat Race Choir version, especially their 1978 version at Speaks (no video) here on TH-cam, it's done well, very guitar heavy but keys still work too. Mark Hitt uses a Gibson hollow body, I think an ES-355, and it works well.
is anybody else addicted to this song?
Definitely!
in a word... yes
oh yes!
+CJ From Grove Street DITTO
I play this song on keyboard and voice !!!
I never even heard of this band a month ago. Now each album is an unexplored gem.
Congrats you have discovered the greatest most epic legendary unique genius band ever.
You lucky, lucky person! Enjoy!
Lucky you
The drummer is totally on it. So tight
R.I.P Ray Shulman 😢😢
Ray Shulman was a monster on bass.
Ray is easily too 5 greatest ever criminally underated
Absolutely..
No argument from me.
And that tone is the fattest!
@@phairlever awesome bass sound.
One of those songs that, once it's in your head it takes up residency. That bass is ridiculous.
John elfin Weathers! What a FEEL....committed to the groove 100%
What. A. Band. Can't believe that I was lucky enough to see them 'live' in the mid-70s.
These guys have been my "desert island band" since I was turned on to them by my jazz piano teacher back in 1993.

Oh god yeah!! F Yeah!!! The greatest most epic legendary unique genius band ever.
that YC-45d is awesome man

These guys are top notch musicians!
Very cool. Not sure if people realize how difficult it is to sing and play the keyboard simultaneously! Impressive
Every part of Gentle Giant is fucking incredible and beyond anything I've ever heard before
I FIRST HEARD THIS TRACK IN 1978 . MY 30 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER RECENTLY GOT MARRIED THIS JULY 2023 AND SHE WENT TO SPAIN FOR TWO WEEKS I MUST HAVE PLAYED THIS SONG AND TO HER AND MY SON IN LAW A HUNDRED TIMES ..IT'S A ROUNDABOUT !
Two weeks in Spain makes the year disappear easy
Two weeks in Spain, you forget, bored and yet weary
We're back again, drink the wine, weather's fine, only
Two weeks in Spain's not enough
We've just come back from a week in Menorca.
This juicy little earworm was with me all week!
The drummer just is too cool !
ANIMAAAAAAL !
The drummer is related to someone ik :,)
Beast mode!

Brilliant musicians 🤟

It gets in my head. Can't get it out. Great song
This music makes me happy :)

Badass drummer
Great mix🎉. Absolutely sreading joy. Long live Giant
Perfección.. sin dudarlo Gentle Giant. estarán siempre presentes!
1st concert in my life was Gentle giant at the Cleveland Agora 1978
Genius! Now finally, after five decades, the bass end can be revelled in on the new 2024 remix! The missing piece!
it really cant get any better than that for its age
Always wondered who sang this tune, for more than 40 years it has been rattling about in my head 🤔, the power of you tube..who would've thought.
Love Gentle Giant repping the Oakland A's! 👌
Luv this tune and GG🤩
glorious, just glorious
:D i can agree, spain is really a beautiful country. Been there i think already more than 10 times. Specially the Mountains in Spain are absolutely gorgeous!
I keep dipping into the GG..love this...and the rest is growing on me!!
Saw them 3 or 4 time back in their heyday. Good fun. Them and Crimson the start of math rock!
Excelente
Indeed!
Back in 1978 we bought a 'Prinzsound' radio/cassette recorder from Dixons. That night GG were in concert on the radio and I taped the whole thing and played it till the tape wore out - this was my favourite track
Yup - and that grity sound really ties it all together :)
the drummer is holding it down. He's laying in on those drums !!!
Beating them like they owe him money.
RIP, Ray!
This is the power of Scotland
Only one of them was born in Scotland, and he grew up in Portsmouth.
@iade38
On the money, friend. Anyone who tries to play his parts knows he is one of the most underrated bass players period...
What a band they were.
bravo! awesome music!!!
Brilliant seen them at Newcastle in 76
Brilliant!
Great song!
Kerry has the best moves haha
it's such a heavy groove, but at the same time, i can't seem to find the 1! That takes a lot of talent to write something like that!
D.E.P. Ray Shulman 😢
Rockin tune!
Yes its great!
I’ve always loved Weathers decked out in Oakland gear for this gig lol
Camel and Gentle Giant! That would have been a great double bill!!
love that mr weathers.. such fine and solid music .. a band that's never gotten their proper druthers
go go guys keep up singing...
puta que pariu a melhor banda do mundo
On my 2nd week in Spain now
WE MISS YOU RAY! R.I.P 30 DE MARZO.
Which tours did you see? This is definitely higher IQ music-like most all British Prog from that era.
I say again - Ray Shulman = genius!
Yep absolutely agree with you a gazillion% my ultimate hero and favorite musician ever along with keery minnear. Gentle giant is/was the greatest most epic legendary genius band ever.
The bass is fuckin amazing, how the fuck didnt I discover this before?
Sadly, Ray Shulman passed away March 30, 2023.
RIP.
Crumbs! This is in 4/4 time! Whatever happened to 7/8, 11/4, etc? This is a brilliant song - it’s really funny!

Great tune... Thanks for sharing it.
Anyone have the "Rat Race Choir" version of this classic?
Queen is the poor man’s Gentle Giant
Dig it!
My favourite band back in the day, and John Weathers is a badass wicked motherfucker!
A beast!
Man that drummer is beating the fuck out of that high hat like a bad habit.
He's hitting those drums like they owe him money!
If you ever spent 2 weeks in Spain, you know what they mean…….🤗
😀 ! This is it ! 😀

OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!! :-) That's Kerry Freakin' Minnear, a modern day Mozart!!!
the keyboard, at first, which scratches his ass :)
Derek Shulman Is totally crazy😮😮😮
Hilarious whenever the camera shows Kerry Minnear shaking his butt.
Avi Soncino he's got the moves haha
He has so much legendary genius in him he has to shake out the excess
2:03 que chingooon !!..puro Ray !!
When this stuff gets inta yer head, ya can't get it out!
@gogorox93 i think they were around long before ian dury................
Bill Hicks on guitar!
Good observation i noticed the same thing before
@chuckstadbass Which high school & band was that?? That Palladium show was outstanding.!!
Sounds like they got this from funk it up by sweet
n1
did anyone notice the keyboard player pick his butt at the beginning?
Yeah he was pickin a wedge. His underwear was bunched up inside his ass crack.
Kerry Minnear! 2:19
Tighter than an ants chuff!
Why does Derek Shulma remind me so much of Ethan Klien of H3H3! Lmao
I can see it.
Why did John Weathers always wear an Oakland A's uniform?
