I like how half of the song is just the unique drum/guitar solo. And for those who didn't notice, the video was animated and directed by Noah Shulman, Derek's son.
That's cool to note! Malcolm Mortimore was my favorite of all their drummers, but only on this one album due to a motorcycle accident which side lined him for years. He came from, and went back to the jazz world. His timing and dynamics on this album are sublime.
I think my favourite bit is when Gary Green switches on the huge reverb about half way through his solo. You can hear the "click" of him stomping on whatever unit he was using. What gratifies me the most is the fact that they must of heard the noise in the control room and in the mixing etc. etc. but they left it in!! Genius. Best band ever.
He used a borrowed Echoplex. This and Brian May's use of the same type of device (on Brighton Rock) are my two favorites. Very different approaches, though.
I owned the "Three Friends" album during my last year in Junior High School in 1972. I would listen to it repeatedly. Pretty heady stuff to be listening to for a fourteen year old!

@@peterkeenan6382 Those 2 you mentioned had definitely cultivated a solid audience prior to their switch to more "pop" music. Ye gods, there is so much to love about this. It was only their third album, and yet they had the classical structure, the hard rock hooks and that guitar break! And I expect there was something about the trousers.
