Dear Mr Sadler, I really enjoyed your presentation! I have a question regarding the contextualization of Alcibiades speech in the Symposium, as the rest of the group praised the Eros in a way that theres always a clear indication of what the Eros seeks. Diotima implies the Eros keeps seeking the greater good until it has found the essence of beauty and Aristophanes says the Eros wants whats been long missing, which is its second half. You mentioned that Alcibiades speech is not about love, but about the object of love so I was wondering if theres still a point to make about Alcibiades perception of the Eros. You also mentioned Alcibiades only wanting Socrates love, but - trying to conceptualizing this desire - would Alcibiades perception of the Eros just end up beeing a strong desire towards one soul (similiar to what seems to be the first step of Diotimas ladder of love) or is there a greater and maybe more meaningful interpretation regarding his perception of love, or does Alcibiades simply speak of something different than the rest of the group (Love vs. Object of Love) and theres no clear point to make about his general view of the Eros (maybe by not knowing enough about ist, which might be then reason why he seeks Socrates Love / Wisdom) I hope my you see what I am refering to. Kind regards from Germany.
Man! this is one of the best philosophy classes ever! so much fun and a great way to continue deepening into temperance. Also, it's kind of funny I find this on Gay Pride Day and have a sneak peek on how love and seduction worked by then
+Gregory B. Sadler nice Videos.. but i Miss a lot because of the not so good sound quality in the Main part of the Video. is it possible to have the same soundquality AS in the begini g of the Video?
Well would our so beloved professor of philosophy, and love, become jealous should our attention divert to other TH-cam channels? Nay, he would charm you that you are no longer his most worthy lover, but to flatter and entice, a candid sleep over might bring you back to that previously lost affection. But oh what folly, is he not most wise and virtuous Socrates!
+Retrogamer71 I'm ok with anyone going to whatever channel they see fit. In fact, every once in a while, I've even suggested to some commenters that this channel isn't really their cup of tea!
What a wonderful talk! With so many interesting themes. I'm so glad TH-cam led me here this fine evening.
Glad you enjoyed it

I think that Alcibiades speech is meant to be quite different from the other ones
Okay thank you!
