You thought you were missing but it was just that accurate. Pretty amazing. Been looking at one of these in 308 but ended up getting an AR10 for that Cal so might have to do 300 BO on this seeing how good they can be. Quiet too.
The main difference between 5.56/.223 Rem PMags and 300 blackout PMags is the internal mag geometry thickness towards the front of the magazine. For larger/heavier bullets, the bullet diameter may be a lot wider towards the front and will wedge itself against the body. It is a known issue so that is why Magpul makes a dedicated 300 blackout PMag.
I was going to update my 2016 300 Black Ruger Rancher to,the Gen 2. But have decided to keep my early Gen 1 with its fully round bolt without the bolt cutout. I think the early Ruger American has a smoother bolt. New MDT LSS stock, get it coated and go shooting.
@@ArseniosHarrington I picked up my 300 Blackouts Saturday and put the first 400 rounds through it, very accurate, the only issue was sometimes the bolt would freeze up extracting my empty case. It has something to do with the magazine I think. I should get my 5.56 Ranch soon and will see if it’s the same
On my Gen 1 with the Hunter stock, the mag well had to be shimmed away from the action to feed at all. Magpul mags don't feed my subsonic ammo well. Lancer mags work better for me.
The follower on a .300 blk magazine shouldn't be any different, in fact I can't even really think of why they would sell one specific. .300 blk is just a .223/5.56 case cut down and necked.. That being said, that one mag was rough... definitely something hanging up. This rifle has been on my short list for too long. Done a couple .300 blk builds in the AR platform just to get my feet wet and so far, the reality cut through all of the hype. .300 blk is awesome. I loaded up a few hundred rounds sub sonic and went to the range with my daughter.. That was FUN.
The only difference I would think is maybe some internal geometry of the mag body. If the 5.56 body tapers towards the front, the larger projectiles of the .300blk may be cramped and drag inside the body so they opened it up some, but the outside looks identical. Maybe? Just speculating.
@@HALO-2304 Theoretically the exact same mag because they have to fit the same Mag well. The subs that I loaded were 220gr and were VERY close to the front of the mag, I had to take special care to keep them tapped to the back but in the several hundred that I ran, I had ZERO feed issues.. I have yet to go as far as doing a throat depth test but it's always an option to seat the bullet a few thousandths deeper. You do have to know what it will do to the performance of the round tho.. Reloading is a rabbit hole.
Just ordered mine after researching hours on end. I was going to splurge on the Savage 110 PCS, or an Elf Owl, or CZ 600 Trail, but ended up deciding on this for the price and awesome accurate barrel. I'll drop the action in a different chassis eventually, and cut the barrel down for a more packable build. Great video!
@@Freedom-us3zrWhat kind of groups do you think I could expect with subsonic at 300 yards? What magnification would you recommend for 300 yards and less?
@@itzPowell I’m not sure what you would get at 300 yard with subs. I would think they would be decent because you don’t have the transition from super to subsonic. I like a minimum of 15x at that distance but 20 would be good.
Since you can shoot and have the space I would like to give you a idea for a video. Set your target at 125 yards. With a serious cold bore “ first shot of the day” do a 3 shot group. And see if the cold shot goes 2-4 inches high. I bet it does.
Do you by chance know the OD of the barrel inside the flutes around the 12” mark? Looking very seriously at getting one of these but want to cut it down to reduce velocity and hopefully avoid any factory subs going supersonic. I’m concerned about not having enough meat left on the barrel to get a 5/8 thread after cutting into the flutes. After building a 450 for subs only to be let down by all the factory rounds, and trail boss being essentially non-existent, I need something that will shoot factory subs accurately and want to explore 300BLK for more factory sub options. Great shooting by the way!
Have the same setup but in 5.56 with the magpul Hunter stock. I can’t insert or release the mag without having an open bolt but there was no issues like that in the original Ruger stock. It looks like you insert a mag with the bolt closed so I’m curious if you had to modify anything to make that work?
I had the same issues when I first installed my Hunter stock. I ended up shimming the bottom metal by putting a washer between the stock and bottom metal for each of the bolts. It lowered the mag just enough that it now feeds super smoothly.
