  • V8 or V6??? Which engine should you get on the 2023 Ford F150 Tremor? Both the 5.0L Coyote V8 and the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 have their pros and cons but which one is better on these trucks.

      Cant tow anything either without the motor screaming it’s lungs out. It’s a mustang motor. High revving low torque on the bottom. You’ll get to hear your coyote when it’s at 6500 rpm when towing. The 3.5 is a much better truck motor

    • @bozartg
      @bozartg ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The EcoBoost isn’t trying to nor-does it need to. If one needs a V8, nothing else will do.

      @@jimsteinway695 I'm pretty sure the Coyote was "detuned" or up-torqued for the truck to get more level torque, so it isn't exactly the same motor. I went back and forth for a while, but as someone who doesn't tow much and maybe can afford to eat a little more in mpg, I went with the V-8. Then again, I'm an old and am more concerned with longevity for an engine. I could be wrong on that count, but turbos have historically had issues at higher mileage (and, I can't lie, I love the sound of a V-8 too). Peace, Love!!

Without having to customize anything I feel a lot more speed and power with the eco. But I would say that the coyote is no slouch either but there’s definitely a difference. @@polivcentr Likely because it makes less torque. Supposing the engines are equal efficiency, that is, they produce around the same hp/fuel burned if the ecoboost is making 500ft/lbs towing up hill and the coyote is only making 410 the ecoboost will be consuming more fuel at that point. In low load situation, like just cruising on the highway, not in boost the ecoboost should have the advantage. That being said, keeping your foot out of it is another story for both engines.

That being said I’d pick a v8 because of the simplicity of the power train. Boost is hard on components and expensive to replace. I personally know 2 people that have had ecoboost engines or turbos blow up on a 5 and 7 yo trucks. Makes me question what they are going to be like to fix in 15-20 years. If decide I need the extra power there’s plenty of supercharger options down the line.

    Two things. The Tremor doesn't come w/ the max tow pckg, hence less towing capability. Next, the people who claim the 5.0 is "more reliable" really have more ideology than facts. The 3.5l eco gets it done at MUCH lower rpm than the v8: lower rpm = less stress. Plus the turbos haven't been the problem on ecos. The early problems were timing chains and direct injection. Ford fixed both issues by adding dual timing chains and adding port injection. Change your oil and air filter and the 3.5l is amazing.

      I'm a Coyote fan and that's what's in my '18 F-150 but to be honest the 3.5L's torque peak is at a lower RPM than that of the 5.0L. However, the 3.73:1 axle ratio in my truck and in the Tremor is the best way to go with the Coyote because it keeps it in the power range better than say a 3.31:1 gear ratio would. My truck tows my loaded '18 box trailer just fine and isn't under boost (since it doesn't have any) all the time while doing so.

      '18 thru '20 have the Gen 3 Coyote. '21 and up have the Gen 4 with the main differences being cylinder deactivation and a belt driven oil pump on the Gen 4. The old gear driven oil pump was the weak link in the earlier Coyotes on high horsepower applications. In other words, if you want to add a supercharger the Gen 4 is the way to go unless you want to replace the gear driven oil pump on the earlier engines with an aftermarket billet unit. Cylinder deactivation can also be defeated on the Gen 4. Both Ford Performance and Roush offer supercharger kits for the Gen 4 Coyote with a 3/36 warranty and a minimum 300 hp increase.

    it is a great truck,,,,,,,,IF YOU CAN GET ONE....... Long story. Put $1000 down and placed an order in May of 2023. Got confirmation from Ford that they received my order. Very simple order. Standard package with only 3 add on's. Engine block heater, Power sliding rear window and the available Front-Axle with Torsen Differential. Why not since this is a Tremor. The standard Tremor package was plenty enough for me. Anyways it is now Jan 5, 2024 and still no truck. I was recently told they stopped making the 2023's and I'm SOL.....So I proceeded to look at the 2024 and re price it out. The Turbo V6 is now a $300 option, this was a standard option before. The block heater went from 90 to $190, and the rear sliding window is now standard. All Great. None of this was a show stopper. HOWEVER, you can no longer get the Front-Axle with Torsen Differential unless you purchase the upgraded 402A package which is AN EXTRA $11,000 DOLLARS. I feel a bit screwed over. Its not like they changed the radio options or some other cosmetic interior package. They basically removed an available performance option from a vehicle that should already have it as standard. I contacted FORD company multiple times, multiple case numbers with no satisfaction. My dealer has yet to even make any offers of allowance.....................Deeply Frustrated Any one have thoughts or suggestions ?

    Have the ecoboost. It’s boring and sounds like a vacuum cleaner. Trading for a coyote because driving any vehicle has always been about the visceral experience as much as a functional one.

    It's hard to justify 70K for a V6 with turbos and every stock Ecoboost I have ever driven (our family owns one) has some boost lag regardless of what the marketing is trying to sell.

      totally, my wife’s explorer moves but there are many times there is a lag when I need the boost. My F150 V8 never does this and the power is immediate. Plus it sounds like a truck.

    They did this comparison on the Tremor forum. They asked what's good about the 5.O, the sound. What about the 3.5 everything else. Most feel for towing, the 3.5 is the obvious choice. Today's 5.O isn't like they used to be. I have a 22 Tremor and very happy with the 3.5. With the radio on, I can't hear the engine sound anyway.

      Great observations. I dont buy a truck for sound, I buy it for performance. Either engine will do the job well. Just a preference in what you like. I personally dont care about engine sound. I drive in the mountains for hunting a lot and I kind of like the truck being quieter anyway. Just my preference.
