@@BreadSlicer666 Yeah, it's a total contrast to the Beatopia cover. Not as imaginative or artistic this time round. If anything, it feels a bit egotrippy. Bea is modelling nowadays on social media and for magazines, so in this album cover she is sort of showing off her looks more than expressing any sort of statement (she is gorgeous though, so I don't blame her.)
@@SilentPhoenix__ no seriously lol the way they talked about it you would swear that she said being a girl was all about worrying about how we look. That’s not what the gist of the entire song was about at all 😭
Ok but I agree with the critique that the piano instrumental is too melodramatic. It made me think of the basic sad songs that plays specifically for the sad part in a romcom. But I can see how it would work for other people.
A cruel affair isn’t about a situationship it’s about bea and her friend comparing herself to other girls they see online. I think you got it confused for real man.
I, like I’m sure others, was apprehensive about the idea of other reviewers coming on the channel at first. I’ve since changed my tune 100%. I thoroughly enjoyed this review.
Yea it makes a lot of sense the more i think about it. Anthony isnt really the target audience for albums like these so while he is certainly entitled to review it if he wants to it makes more sense to have someone else do it if its something he just doesn't connect with.
@@ElaidenI’d still like to hear his opinion, though. It’d be cool if he did his own review too, or like a two part review with the guest / him (although people would probably just skip to his part).
Tie my shoes is about her relationship with her dad, that’s why she’s waiting as a little kid bc the song paints the view that she was waiting for him to look after her properly. It’s not about a romantic relationship at all- I think that to undermine the meaning like you did in your review is unfair to bea and maybe u should listen again because as someone with a complex relationship with their dad, the song does a great job at showing people what that’s like and how deeply it affects you later in life. Enjoyed the rest of the review though!!
This popped up in my feed and I thought Anthony died. Very cool that theneedledrop isn't going to just be an Anthony thing, looking forward to how everything evolves and glad that Anthony can get a break.
also no disrespect to the melon man but after watching him for more than a decade I KNOW sometimes when a genre is just not going to be his thing, and I tend to go to others for a more objective review. letting someone more passionate about that genre handle it is a great move imo
You acknowledge about how in The Man Who Left Too Soon but fail to notice how a song literally called Tie My Shoes that talks about being a little girl would also be about that same paternal relationship. A lyric is literally " the screws are with my old man" waiting for a neglectful parent to come back and treat them like the child they were. Anyway, my instant favourite was Beaches - it's fun but has the same waves of emotions and moods that the song talks about
i agree with ur rating but “tie my shoes” is also abt her dad, not an ex. and ur critique of “girl song” was unfair, i believe she showcased the reality of how her own insecurity feels. you kinda made it seem like she’s trying to inflict insecurity onto girls, which I don’t think is true.
He gave the new Clairo album a 7 I believe. It felt special to me and I would have given it at least a 8, so I can live with a 7 for Bea. Liked it a lot but didn’t love it.
its a coming of age album i feel like. she's still a young woman tryna find her footing within the bracket of societal norms so expect her to write songs about her experiences being a girl
cruel affair is more about comparing yourself to another girl who’s so beautiful, but realizing that the girl is also comparing herself to others. showing that everyone has insecurities and is also beautiful in their own way 😁
tie my shoes isnt about a romantic relationship, it’s about grief, bea said she wrote it about her bf’s dad 😟 it’s literally in the title “i was only just a kid waiting for you to tie my shoes”
Did you get here yesterday? These comments have been terrible since the "Somali Pirate's" account with the Exmilitary pfp used to post memes about the Fader slander on Melon. The only channel with memes deader than this is Dunkey's.
biggest surprise for me is how good the first half is, i verbally said "This sounds like something Rick Rubin would produce" only to realize it really is produced by him.
I really like Bea but got bored easily, maybe I'm just not in the mood, but I found Beatopia so much more diverse, and to have many memorable tunes. Everything sounds the same here.
Finally, a woman's perspective on a Needledrop review for a woman's album!! Hopefully she won't underrate it like Anthony has done in the past!!!! Edit: FUCK
Randomly calling her "Beatrice" repeatedly is kind of weird imo. It's a solo act, and she never bills herself that way, as far as I've seen. It'd be like repeatedly referring to Chappell Roan as Kayleigh.
This is a reach. The review probably did that because Beabadoobee is a tongue twisting stage name to keep repeating. Bea doesn’t even like her stage name so she would be cool with it, you can’t compare it to the Chappell Roan situation at all.
I thought tie my shoes was about her farther and thats why she sings about something child like, like waiting for her dad to tie her shoes - could be incredibly wrong but i cant see it being about a relationship
i really liked your review and i wasnt blown away by the album either (for me it was a 5/6) but you kind of misinterpreted some of these songs core meanings which makes them sound even less likable. like for example a cruel affair is about bea comparing herself to other women online and not a situationship and tie my shoes is not about a romamtic relationship but about her strained and complicated relationship with her father.
good review funny though, I assumed a whole heap of irony was intended in songs like "Tie My Shoes" and "Girl Song", if only because Beabadoobee is British (so am I, so I'm trained to spot nod-nod wink-wink irony) and those *were* the concerns of "girl group" songs in the 90s (in Britain and Asia), an era she clearly has a lot of affection for
Álbum reminded me of George Leyborne Music hall circa 1850 Victorian England. Thematically. Obviously not to be mistaken with dancehall which is quite different
