Be sure to claim it anyway. Big companies get let off the hook even more because the payouts aren’t worth it for the individual, so the actual settlement amount is sometimes way less in aggregate than even the minor penalty the suit represents.

One of the biggest health insurers in Australia had data stolen after data was left exposed by a software developer. Guess what, they said sorry, paid out a little bit in compensation and paid for one year for the service that reports on financial actions against a consumers name eg someone opening bank accounts, and then grew in size because people forgot…
And they did not have cyber insurance, which was ironic.
    It’s just ridiculous

Indeed. Crimes against humanity. Also no statute of limitation on murder/homicide. Use Corps and a individuals and then use Rico statutes. Like say, beyond these sadists, go after Ford for Lee Iacoca for decisions to money over human lives. The corp used it's means to hide from prosecution and liability. They KNEW in ADVANCE what was probable via engineers yet the dollar was put before human pain and their customer's very lives. That is my dream. Surgical complications video got me thinking. This is what you do when you TRY and do every thing you can to help. We hold those who don't care to a criminal and civil liability standard. KWIM?(also, may have worked in a morgue in a former life, so you can't hide the frequency and how death stats are reported. You can see when some are playing fast with numbers if you get what I mean)

So long as HIPAA continues to allow the unrestricted sale of patient data for AI training sets, the rivers of gold will continue to flow. The healthcare system is the second biggest leech on the American body politic after the Federal government. The Feds take 21% of every dollar, while pharma takes 19% of every dollar. Most countries spend 10% or less, which is the real reason their healthcare is so cheap compared to ours.

As someone who knows a bit about I.T.
This is why you always pay for backups as close to "live" as possible. At the least, nightly automated backups.
This is why you should use a long password that you can remember easily (sting of random words, throw in some numbers and an exclamation mark or a question mark).
This is why you should _always_ install adblocker.
This is why you should NEVER click on ads.
This is why you never connect a USB device you found in the parking lot to a work computer, or any computer for that matter.
This kind of stuff makes anyone with basic I.T. proficiency react like a Nephrologist hearing incompetent clicking.
We know you all do it.
STOP. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
