It’s impressive how difficult is to have a video with this information at this level of objectivity. Finally I found yours and use it in classes. Thank you for produce and share it.
Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you Santos
Both instruments produce amazing sounds !! 🎻🎶 🙌🏻
Thank you!
As a violinist I love the rich deep sound the viola produces 😁
Me too!
I’ve been playing violin for 10 years, but the viola is so beautiful. Sometimes I wished I played it.
You can play both💕
@@JuhlMedia haha yeah! Maybe some day!
Personally, I regret choosing to play the viola over the violin. The music parts in my high school orchestra are so much more boring, and there are only 3 of us compared to the 12 violins. Plus, whenever I am carrying my case around, people always think it’s a violin. Then when I tell them it’s a viola, they say “what’s a viola?” 😂
@@weirdoodles That's no reason to regret choosing the viola. Repertoire in high school is obviously going to be very simple, especially for an instrument like viola. Your orchestra doesn't have the goal of actually challenging the people within it, which makes sense considering that 90% of the people in it have played their instrument for a maximum of 2 years. You could join a community orchestra or an orchestra outside of school. Also, if you've played the instrument for a while, I don't see why you should be insecure or anything when someone asks you what a viola is. I, and maybe you, play music for myself and others' pleasure, not to impress people with the instrument I play.
@@weirdoodlesadding on to what fufuwasher was saying, you also should look at how many people choose the violin over the viola. So there's countless violinists, and thus harder to compete for a place in an orchestra. But there's less violists, meaning less competition and easier to stand out. You know what I mean?
Also, it's a good thing that you get to explain what the viola is! You get to be the one who introduces a new instrument to people, and who knows who might be inspired to pick it up as well! Or even just introduced to viola music they've never heard before!
Great Video! Nice resource to show students who are not familiar with the differences.
Thank you! Anna 💕
its fun looking at grownups say these things and i love it wen they do that :D
Violin and Viola have 3 Strings in common.
In Choir violin is Soprano and viola altus.
Agree 👋
The best part of the viola is that you can go up to the violin pitch but you can go low to a similar cello pitch. Its right in the middle
I appreciate your comment! 🌷
As a viola player, I can confirm the chat is very kind about this
Hello, Ching. Josef here. We met last Sunday at Sipsteria when you explained in some detail the differences between a violin and a viola. Thank you for the wonderful exchange of conversation. I find your videos to be quite informative. Maybe soon you will have a brief video on what cadence is and what it is not. Be well. Have a good weekend.
I play both of them, same techniques, the reading is different because of C claf, but both are very similar in general.
I’m getting a Viola in 13 days. I can’t wait!
That is awesome!
@@JuhlMedia Thank you thank you! I can’t wait to play it!
I prefer the viola. The violins 🎻 are so high and squeaky, they make my teeth hurt.

Agreed. It’s grating
Yes, the Viola has a warmer sound being an alto/tenor stringed instrument.
Viola >>>>>>>> Violin
Yeah but the alto clef is not for me.

I’ve been playing the viola for 5 years! And my size of the viola is 4/4, I really love it!❤
4/4 usually means it is a full size violin. Sometimes, people turn a violin in ADGC, that is a viola range. Are you a student?
Beautiful ❤️
As a viola this comment section is making me cry, I love violas and finally people are seeing that we exist, my orchestra always hates on us for no reason 😂

I’m a violinist who’s considered switching to viola, should I?
Viola is bigger and heavier, it will be more work to play the instrument. In orchestral or chamber music scores, viola parts have less notes than that of thee violin. The sound of the viola attracts me when I was 15. I switched from the violin to the viola. Tomorrow, 12/13 at 5 PM EST, I will be interviewing my son Sean Juhl on this channel - LIVE podcast. He studied violin at 5, switched to the viola when he was 14. Last year, he joined the Pittsburgh Symphony. When are you located? How long have you been playing the violin? Why are you considering playing the viola?
@@JuhlMedia I’m located in Virginia. I’ve been playing the violin since I was 12, & started thinking about switching at 13-14. I wanna play viola because the c string sounds so pretty and I like lower octaves more than higher octaves
Vivan las violas !!!!!! ❤
Yes!
Violin❤❤❤❤
I wish I played cello or viola instead of violin
I love cello. It uses the gravity and has much natural approach than the violin and the viola.
I really like the cello, but its size at the time of transport can be a problem for me due to the size of the trunk of my car. So, I thought of the viola as his replacement.
I love the sound of the cello too.

Great you are going to switch to the viola. Advice: Finding a great viola teacher, doing basic training, practicing smart daily. It does not matter many hours you practice, it is important to practice RIGHT.
Good to know❤
Came here after Zhanghao played his violin with viola sheets
Viola Lee Blues
Even the g-string on the violin sounds a little bit brighter and more nasally than the G string on the viola. Personally, I prefer my good Viola over the violin, much O2 it's richer and darker tone quality.
There is a saying that the sound of the viola is closer to the human voice. I switches from playing the violin to the viola because I like the sound of the viola.
I play viola I am happy now
What makes you happy?
It lower like the cello😂😂❤❤
Cello is much better tho
do you have any viola recommendations that aren’t thousands of dollars? i used to play for five years but eventually stopped. i miss it and want to get back but there’s very few credible recommendations online!!
Where do you live? What is your budget? Try Shar Music, an online store. They have many choices. If you are a beginner, $500-1000 will do. A decent viola bow coats $600-2000. I suggest to buy a Fiddler fiber glass bow, and it cost about $70. Check it on Amazon.
Wowww :DDDD

Viola is better than the violin 🎻
Please suggest, If I want to create sorrowful, sad, broken tunes- would it be viola or violin?
You can do that on the viola and on the violin.
@@JuhlMedia thank you.
Viola
O wow I never knew. I guess if you play the violin you can’t just play the viola and vice versa because the stings are different . What about a cello or the bass?
You can switch between the violin and the viola. Many violists started playing the violin first. Cello playing's position, the left hand and the right hand are very different from the violin and the viola. Violinist read treble clef while viola players read alto clef and treble clef.
can't imagine how small a violin actually is compared to a viola!
How do I tune a viola ?
If your viola pegs are stuck, add a drop of olive oil
@@JuhlMedia OK ty

The viola strings are from high to low: ADGC. You can download a tuner app, or tune with a piano or keyboard, starts with the A.

Hi Viola!
Someone tell me how the heck TH-cam knew that I wanted to know the difference? 😀 I didn't search for any freaking thing and this shorts shows up😀

this is why i play viola lol
The mother: viola
The child: violin
Well said
Violin: sister; viola: step-sister😄
Can a violinist play a viola? Or are they significantly different?
The basic playing methods are the same. But, viola is 2 inches bigger and heavier than the violin. The sound production is different. A good violist can play the violin well. But violinists need to study how to play the viola, working on the relationships between the bow and the strings.
Viola is cool also violin is cool or doudle bass or cello because I like this instruments
Keep the coolness!

I dont expect that much easy than piano and guitar😅
I play the viola
Do you enjoy playing it?
As I viola everyday I wish I picked violin.
Why is that?
Viola is meant to be firewood, violin is not… Nailed it 🎶
😝
There are so many violins that it's like a rock on your foot. Are you thinking about switching to a viola because you're eliminated from competition.
So violists can be invited anywhere, but isn't Paganini the only violin that has a maximum output? I heard you guys have to take a test because it's overflowing like rocks by the sea?
i play viola

So if I tune my violin incorrectly, it becomes a viola?
Hahaha, No! Viola strings are A, D, G, C Violin strings are E, A, D G. You can tune your instrument with tuner Apps from your phone or a keyboard.
seems this is the theme in the comments, but it's true! I'm a violinist, but viola is beautiful and the range looks fun!! there are so many times I'm just playing a song (i do a LOT by ear and i transpose by ear often for fun) and I'm pretty far into the song until I realize there's a note that I don't have. Viola seems to go so low, even if it's only five notes. I'd love to pick it up as a new instrument, but alas, I'm already a trumpet player as well and I'm in acapella 🥲 (I don't have time to do yet another thing as I'm also a field hockey player, lacrosse player, and high schooler)
You are amazing that you play many musical instruments and also do sports. Way to go!

yes. My violin seems small compared to the Viola
Tuned as the cello only an octave higher.

Is there no argument on both instruments about how they are one in the same and are just only in different keys and size?
The difference: viola is 5th pitch lower, viola's sound is more mellow, viola is bigger...

A viola as 5 strings
A 5-string violin or 5 string viola has 5 strings. Normally, string instruments have 4 strings.
Violas are better.. violinist are jealous and hate on us for no reason :(
I thought violas and violins were nearly the same size.. ???
Viola is 2 to 3 inches bigger than the violin. It is an alto (voice). Violin is a soprano.
So a viola is just a depressing violin. Got it.
😀😂😅
It is a middle voice between the violin and the cello in orchestras and smaller ensembles.
My name is Viola 😂😂

the viola sounds like a cello
I love the sound of the cello
Oxy, I'm a violist but my viola is a violin
That happens, when you put viola strings on to a violin, it became a viola.

My music teacher told me that the sizes of the other way around😒
Can you explain? I am not sure your comment.
My music teacher told me that the viola was smaller than the violin
Violin is smaller than the viola. A full size violin is around 14 inches. A small viola is about 15 inches.
